OctoCon Alums! Check this out!
You guys remember Steve (from Detroit, the other Steve from Detroit that would always come in for OctoCon with his wife Kristie and friend Tim)? He hasn’t made it to an OctoCon since before Covid, but he’s been keeping himself busy!
The Balloon Guy
Hopefully they can make it in for a future OctoCon, but his weekends are usually “tied up.” Heh.

My daughter has been indulging in the balloon arts lately. Hopefully Steve makes a future Octocon and perhaps he can give her some pointers.

I used to see Tim in local places of geeky interests here and there but that was in the before times. I haven't been out in a looonngg time. Always good to see good people making a difference in their special way.

Good for Steve. Couldn't have featured a nicer guy in that story.

I think Steve is one of the nicest guys in the world. Also, he brings interesting games to Octocon so I hope he makes it back sometime.

If he commits, I'll do everything I can to bring my kids, as for sure he'll have games that would interest them.
Last week I finally taught them their first real game, Eagle Games Railroad Tycoon. My daughter has been wanting to play a railroad game forever, and when, last year, I couldn't decide which of the games I had would be appropriate for them my daughter replied, "daddy, we have brains you know!" As it turned out, my daughter won pretty handily, with me in second and son in third. She's looking forward to the next "rainy day" when I'm inclined to play games.

My oldest daughter would enjoy the balloon animals, as that's how she's been keeping the 7 year olds entertained as a camp counselor.
My youngest daughter is playing board games at her summer camp, including Betrayal at House on the Hill and Munchkin.
I see Jeff V picked out an old standard to show his family -- I vividly remember the first time we played Railroad Tycoon with the Chicago crew.

How very, very cool that you posted that -- and that the Detroit news station did a piece on him. I often wondered what became of him.

And not to be outdone by her husband, here’s Kristie getting an award from their towns council for her efforts in cleaning up their parks! These are some dedicated people!
