Kindle question
So, I've got a friend who wants to get a Kindle Oasis. That's the version I have, and I got it just 2 years ago. Now, for some reason if I do a search for the Oasis, nothing comes up on Amazon. Did they discontinue it? I only see the Scribe and Paperwhite as being available.

Goodbye to the Amazon Kindle Oasis - 21 February 2024
The Amazon Kindle Oasis is discontinued in the United States. The e-reader is no longer for sale and has been removed from the Amazon Kindle Comparison Chart. There are a handful of units left in international markets, such as Canada and the United Kingdom, but when they are sold out, they will also be gone for good. The Kindle Oasis will go the way of the Kindle Voyage and Kindle DX, which are suitable units but irrelevant today.
...
The current generation Paperwhite now has a 6.8-inch screen, so it’s about the same size now as the Oasis and a few hundred dollars cheaper. Amazon’s current premium-level device is the Kindle Scribe, a 10-inch screen with 300 PPI.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Re: Kindle question
Oh, that's too bad. I guess they want to promote the Scribe. The problem is that the Scribe is far more expensive than the Oasis was. Much bigger price gap. The thing I like about the Oasis are the physical buttons, which as far as I know aren't available on the paperwhite.

Re: Kindle question
you are in Canada, but it's worth checking out https://www.unclaimedbaggage.com/collections/e-readers a few times a week (in the AM) for when they post used Oasis 3 ereaders - that's where i got mine. (it works perfectly fine and it's a nice device, but i probably would NOT have gotten it had i known the battery is not user replaceable)
_that_ being said, if they really don't need the Amazon ecosystem, i would highly instead look into the Kobo Libra 2, Sage or Colour https://www.kobo.com/ - those copy the Oasis' form factor (physical buttons!) pretty well.

Re: Kindle question
Oh, they're already hooked into the Amazon ecosystem. Interesting thing is, when searching on Amazon, they show a lot of Kobos for sale. At one point in time, I remember Amazon not allowing competitors to sell them there.
