"People of color" is fine but "colored people" isn't. Blacks call one another "nigga" but while people had better not. Smoove already mentioned the pivot on "queer." Sometimes the rules are hard to keep up with, especially if you don't much care about them in the first place.

What irritates me is that they still intentionally or unintentionally continue to pronounce her name wrong.
It wouldn't be such an issue if they stopped using her first name.
Yeah. when you think of how well they said just "Obama", "Biden", "Clinton", or "Pelosi" - it's clear (to me) that they are at the very least intentionally pronouncing her first name.
I had some trouble with her first name a long while back (not unusual for me), and my wife said "just think: rhymes with 'momma - la' " , and I've gotten it down pat ever since.

I will say that I tend to pronounce her name like kuh-mall-a and not comma-la as I've recently learned is the correct pronunciation.
I will point out that any sympathy/empathy we may have should be greatly tempered by the fact that we aren't paid to talk all day long on TV about politicians.

I'm pretty sure even during WWII they were aware that some of the names they used for the Japanese were offensive. They were the enemy at the time, so I'm also sure that was intentional.
Were you and your family still at war with Japan after WWII?
My uncle fought on Iwo Jima and so did one of my father's best friends from high school so considering what would now be called PTSD kinda in a way yes.
It's unfortunate that they didn't get to know the 442nd Infantry Regiment. Although it seems Texas doesn't forget.

It's absolutely intentional disrespect. They get non-WASPy names correct all the time when they want to. (If a leader named "Netanyahu" were on the left, they would be constantly emphasizing the wrong syllables, but somehow that mistake never happens.)
It's all part of the attempt to Other her. They did the same with "Barack Hussein Obama."

Odd that we had a "lost battalion" in both world wars.
Sounded like college to me, but then I have crappy hearing.
The Kamala weird emPHAsis drives me nuts. I don't think anyone does it by accident. It just shows them for who they are, much like how I won't say TFG's name and it shows me for who I am. So mission accomplished. I need to get over it.

Point, maybe it's time to start calling TFG Former President and known felon, Dawn instead.

Yeah, me too. Could go either way, but all the emphasis on the blue dress/gold dress ignores the fact that the criticism was for her not showing up at the same session Vance is skipping. If it is so egregious, why isn't he there?

What's with the Dawn reference that keeps cropping up?
I'm sick of hearing the way people mispronouncing Kamala and now the double whammay of using her first time mispronounced while she is running while defering to last names for the other guy. So much so, when I hear someone in the wild do it, I am inuring myself to how will respond in kind.
It was a classic Michigander poking-fun-at-Wisconsonites at my Upper Peninsula university to ask them to pronounce:
don (as in donning a cape),
Don (as the shortened version of Donald), and
Dawn (like the dish soap or early morning).
They'd say all three the same.
(They'd get back at us having us pronounce root beer.)
"Better to talk to people than communicate via tweet." — Elontra
I still say "Marry-o brothers" or "Marry-o Cuomo" after a childhood spent watching Mario Lemieux on Canadian TV.
Come to think of it, that may influence my pronunciation of Kamala.
Oh, and a few years ago I had someone confess to me that they (an over-40 progressive, city born and raised woman) always thought that collard greens were "colored greens". And to her retroactive horror, had always ordered them that way.

I said this already. It's their freakin' job to know who they are talking about. Imagine a sports announcer mispronouncing the New England Patriots QB's name, repeatedly, for years.
It's basically impossible to mispronounce the name of a candidate for the presidency of the USofA if you're a professional political pundit. News Anchors might get to make the mistake *once*, then get coached by staff until they get it.
Unless the goal is disrespect. Then we get this kindergarten nonsense. It's embarrassing.

Long time since I've been to Europe, I've never been to the border.
And we have the 4th time you tried to make this joke work. Good on you! I'm a big fan of repetition making something that's not funny eventually funny. Give it another 3 or 4 tries and we'll see if that's case here.
By the way, can you find where she was officially named the "Border Czar" by anyone in Biden's administration? It might be hidden with all the election fraud evidence you were looking for.

FOX NEWs can't keep themselves from leading into stories with comments like "Joe Biden mumbled through a speech today...."
Disrespect is absolutely paramount.
well they weren't wrong. I think his dentures was falling out. I'm glad he stepping down, I don't think he has the mental capacity. I feel bad because people are attacking him for something he can't control. Whereas they are awfully quiet on Trump who doesn't seem to have diminished mental capacity, he's just a fucking idiot.

When you start at zero, everything you do is a fucking miracle to the world.
I'll back off my harsh statement that there's no way someone could hear that as "college" and not "colored", since it seems people here are hearing it as "college". I don't get it, but I guess I'll go with LawBeef's blue dress/white dress theory.
I still think he said colored, and I won't give him the benefit the doubt given who he is and that he went back to emphasize it, which would be unnecessary for a "college sorority".

Geezus Christ. Even if I conceded this was true (I do not), we're not seeing CNN start every single story on drumpf with "Donald Trump, wearing his signature orange paint, began his speech today by playing to peoples' ignorance and misguided hate..."
And even if they did, I know better than to believe they do it because it's true, not because it generates disrespect and undermines his authority.

you don't think he mumbled?
I'm not making fun of him. I voted for him, so this isn't some conservative bashing. Both my wife and I watched and about halfway throught he was struggling. Fox wasn't wrong. It happened. Using that to bash him is lame, but that doesn't change the fact that he was mush mouth for part of his speech.

Which speech are you referring to? Unagi suggested that Fox leads with the same opening no matter which speech they are talking about. Do you agree that this is a reasonable and true fact to start every lead in with?

In the end, you're welcome to your opinion, but I find comments like (directed at no one) "well, I mispronounced Kamala's name all the time, so I give pundits a pass" is supporting these bigots by contributing to the misinformation and intentional obfuscating of their goal and message.
So I don't find it very useful agreeing that Joe mumbles sometimes. That's not the point. And it's certainly not Fox's point.

That's fine - but this was about how Fox News' goal is spreading disrespect.
If you watch Biden and still respect him, even though he has problems speaking from time to time, Fox News is trying to erode that and just normalize being totally obnoxious to the POTUS because of it.
If MSNBC casually called Trump, "that big fat piece of shit" at every turn, I'm sure their blanket disrespect would be called out.
It's not the same as being critical of Biden or Trump, it's the language and the subject of the comment.
Being incoherent (talking gibberish) is a fair critique. The 'mush mouth' thing is something else. It's not that it doesn't exist.

There are some aural examples of the blue dress/white dress phenomenon that are just mind bending.

I agree with you and GG's statements. I had thought your post was about last night's speech and was denying he wasn't mumbling.
