Can't wait until they have a GOP-lead hearing in Congress like they did for Dr. Fauci
But in his life away from politics, Vance is a venture capitalist. And his values as an investor are far muddier. His VC firm, Narya, is an investor in Hallow, a prayer app that’s caught flak for allegedly seeking to profit off the intimate religious data of its users. Narya is also a backer of Rumble, the far-right “free speech” video service that competes with YouTube in the same way the noxious Gab counters Twitter — platforming noxious creators who’ve been kicked out of more respectable corners of the internet.

Vance’s VC firm also backs a $200 million biotech startup called AmplifyBio. In addition to Narya’s holdings, Vance declared he personally owns as much as $100,000 in the company’s non-public stock, according to recent SEC disclosures. The drug-testing firm has been lauded in the local press as part of Ohio’s transition from rust-belt decay to high-tech rebirth. The firm touts its mission as: “Advancing Science for Humankind.”

But behind the gleaming walls of its Columbus-area campus, AmplifyBio operates a disturbing enterprise. Its core business is testing experimental drugs developed by other companies. AmplifyBio tests many of these substances on live animals, including monkeys and dogs.

Many of these animals die in the course of toxic testing exposures. Other animals are destroyed at the conclusion of testing. There are also dreadful mistakes: A lab monkey recently died after getting wedged in faulty lab equipment, and technician error left other monkeys with burns on their genitals.
Ignoring the above, please consider:
In particular, the research conducted at AmplifyBio also calls into question if Vance’s far-right religious values end where his profit motive begins. AmplifyBio tests cell therapies and other drugs that are likely derived from stem cell lines, including those recovered from aborted fetuses or live embryos. Such stem cell research drives vital innovation in modern health care, but it is anathema to those on the religious right who contend that life begins at conception.

In a written statement, the company tells Rolling Stone that it does not directly use stem cell lines in its testing. It is quick to add, however, that “historically established stem cell lines are a common tool in the research and development of drug molecules of all types, extending well beyond cell therapy and including ‘traditional’ drugs.”
In closing:
But Vance’s politics of distrust — of bashing high technology, the medical establishment, and even institutions of higher learning — makes his efforts to profit from a company like AmplifyBio even stranger.

Vance’s investment in Rumble is more on-brand. That company hosts insidious films by anti-vaxxers, who’ve spread the conspiracy theory that Covid is not a respiratory virus, but actually snake venom added to municipal water, and that those pushing mRNA Covid vaccines want to make you “a hybrid of Satan.”

When it comes to his pocket book, mRNA drugs are just fine with Vance. The company is actively hiring for scientists with experience in mRNA, and a spokesperson for AmplifyBio confirms the company tests drugs that use such genetics as a delivery mechanism: “I cannot imagine that there’s any pharmaceutical safety testing facility on the planet right now that doesn’t work with mRNA based technology,” the spokesperson said. “It’s very popular in drug development.”
It's almost like zero vetting was conducted and the techbros just made sure he was the nominee.

What??? the prayer app didnt use ChatGPT generated AI chatbots to extort users by pretending to be God or some saint? The data was just sold????

The complete lack of grift innovation is unacceptable in this day and age.

Journalists just need to keep digging:
Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance has a history of making disparaging remarks toward people without children, a CNN KFile review of his comments shows, including fundraising off his now-infamous “childless cat lady” remarks in a series of emails that called Democratic leaders “childless sociopaths” who “don’t have a direct stake in this country.”

In November 2020, Vance said on a conservative podcast that childless Americans, especially those in the country’s “leadership class,” were “more sociopathic” than those with children and made the country “less mentally stable.” Vance added that the “most deranged” and “most psychotic” commentators on Twitter – now known as X - were typically childless.

In August 2021, one month after launching his candidacy for the Senate, Vance’s campaign sent fundraising emails referring to the “radical childless leaders in this country” following his appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” where he made comments deriding “childless cat ladies” and leaders running the country. The comments sparked a widespread backlash against Vance when they resurfaced on social media following his nomination to the Republican presidential ticket.

...

“There are just these basic cadences of life that I think are really powerful and really valuable when you have kids in your life,” Vance said in November 2020 on a conservative podcast. “And the fact that so many people, especially in America’s leadership class, just don’t have that in their lives.”
But why would you say such things?
“We’ve allowed ourselves to be dominated by childless sociopaths - they’re invested in NOTHING because they’re not invested in this country’s children. Fighting back won’t be easy - our childless opponents have a lot of free time. That’s why I need YOU to stand with me.”

Another fundraising email reads, “Our country is basically run by childless Democrats who are miserable in their own lives and want to make the rest of the country miserable too… What I want to know is: why have we turned our country over to people who don’t have a direct stake in it?”

...

“I’ve seen people who become more attached to their communities, to their families, to their country because they have children,” he added. “And in my own life, I felt the demons that come from a traumatic childhood melt away in the laughter and the love of my own son. So, I would say that we should care about declining fertility, not just because it’s bad for our economy, but because we think babies are good and we think babies are good because we’re not sociopaths.”
Tapping into religious fundamentalists that want to use women as vessels, that's why.

Maybe he meant to say by traumatizing his own child?

Also not investing in children? I've been paying taxes investing in children for 40 years. And most notably, property taxes for schools specifically for 20 and as an apartment dweller contributing to the owners property taxes for 10 years before that. To say nothing of gas taxes, going to school for a degree in teaching, in which I paid a public institution to teach children at public schools.

So I can take personal offense, such a piece of shit.

"Every second of every day of your life, you benefit from public education. So let me explain why I like to pay taxes for schools, even though I don't personally have a kid in school: It's because I don't like living in a country with a bunch of stupid people."

I’m sure gay couples who have adopted children, parents of kids conceived through IVF and stepparents like Kamala would also agree about their troubles melting away in the laughter of their children.

I was thinking of the household traumas who treated abuse the abuse the same way others treat generational wealth. :( I knew far too many growing up. I imagine the odds are stacked against a lot kids who seem to go to one extreme or the other.

Most maga people don’t care about who the Vp pick is because there is only trump. It’s not the emperor in Star Wars had a vice emperor or the king of England has a vice-king.

however those that do care hate Vance because he has an Indian American wife. It’s their racism that’s is hurting Vance in maga land nothing else.

What trump should have done is choose a celebrity who could double as an 1980s action movies second in command to the evil big boss. Stephen Segal, Kid Rock, hulk hogan or dog the bounty hunter would make the base froth like crazy. Of course you can’t bring those guys to dinner with the tech bros.

The thing is, it's just such an absurd and comical insult that you don't believe it...but you WANT to believe it. It's like the Gorilla Channel piece when Trump was new to the White House. That was one of my favorite things ever.

However, if Vance's kids have to deal with people leaving couch cushions near their locker at school, I reserve the right to say "too far, man".

I had to look that up. What a douche. I mean, I'm sure there are good parents who get frustrated and do something similar, but sheesh...don't admit to it, you ass. I'm surprised he didn't then report that he shot his son's puppy for nipping him.

...that's another "why the hell would you say that" moment from the GOP. Thankfully, she disappeared not too long after that.
