To be fair his numbers really were so bad such that he had almost no chance of winning the election. Harris's polling numbers are vastly improved from his (even if the degree of change is arguably not super logical). Polling wise it is still probably a coin toss election, albeit with Harris probably having a narrow lead. Harris does have a lot of momentum, so (knock on wood) she may be a clear leader by November, but we'll see.

I'd like to believe as far as people go, it's not that much, but the Electoral College is a thing and so there are outsized voices to a lot states that will never vote blue.

Then again, previous to 2012 I thought the those who would support someone like him, aka say, Sarah Palin, were a lot smaller than 45 or 35 or 30 nor even 25% of the voting populace. I was most definitely not one eyed in the kingdom of the blind.

Biden had reason to believe he could win the horse race. He’d done it before, and he’s certainly well aware of Trump’s flaws. I think the media and his governing style slowly cemented negative opinion against Biden. The debate was the last straw.

What I think wasn’t clear at the time was public enthusiasm to “move on” from the same tired discussion, and Trump’s meltdown over not running against Biden. We all feared Trump would work his magic against Kamala or any other Democrat like he’s been able to against his GOP opponents. But they’ve avoided getting defined so far.

Walz deserves the VP nomination just for showing you CAN hit Trump back — “weird” is suitably ambiguous to apply against the Big Orange Cheeto, JD Sofalovin’ Vance and the MAGA agenda. It works with many audiences. Meanwhile, Trump has no script and his “greatest hits” against Obama, Pelosi and Biden aren’t landing, they’re making him look senile and out of touch.

I hear you, and I'm like you - but I remind myself that this is part of the needed enthusiasm. It's like I heard a Harris ad that asked for donations "not tomorrow, or next week, or next month - but now" - and thought, "I bet that, while that sounds almost problematic and/or a turn off to my way of thinking or going about anything, that it is actually the only way to keep momentum, and that it's perhaps also why it's so hard to keep. If "the news" is that donations have started to chill, then they will likely continue to chill. The magic is to throttle up at the right pace so you don't run out of actual real enthusiasm before the end, yet you milk every single ounce of it to build more of it - and any you didn't use, you wasted.

So, I forgive some of the Dems that are at the leading edge of that enthusiastic outlook (cause it just can't be me) - as I think it's needed on some level to keep things going.

No, we are not yet out of the woods, and I won't relax until I see that magical green check mark for Harris. But if I had told you a month ago that:

Biden would drop out and support Harris
Harris would surge in money and support
DonOld would pick the worst running mate in history
Harris would pick Tim Walz as her running mate
Harris would lead DonOld in battleground state polls

you would ask me for some of what I was smoking.

And all of this even before the Democratic convention. Out of touch with reality? I think not.

You must be crazy. A crap ton of women voted for him before...both when he won, and when he didn't. Also, increasingly blacks and hispanics were leaning Trump this time, though hopefully with Kamala running lead now that trend is shifting back. Veterans?! I would say the vast majority of veterans lean right, but I could be wrong there. That's mostly anecdotal on my part.
