https://bandcamp.com/ is a music streaming and song/album download and physical record shop that maaaany musicians and bands use to sell their wares and music downloads. ...and a lot of new music articles. if you buy music from them on the first Friday of each month, 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the bands.

I've had this song stuck in my head for days now. Sometimes you gotta go back to the classics.

I listened to Korn's first album for the first time in probably 20 years this afternoon. It actually holds up pretty well, mostly because Davis' vocals are so remarkably emotive and unique. Lots of the songs are simply silly, but you can tell there's a ton of emotion behind the whole thing. I've never liked anything else they've done, but that first album was good.

The main thing that struck me is how incredibly heavy we all thought that album was at the time. It sounds pretty mellow now, comparatively.

Absolutely obsessed with this song and the entire album, from 2007. Not sure how I missed it back then (well, actually I do know - had a baby) but I'm just catching up now.

Maybe next year, maybe no go

I cannot stop listening to Gojira's performance of "Ah! Ça Ira!" from the Olympics opening ceremony.

They could have easily dialed it back or toned it down for a mass audience, but went SO fucking hard on this. Every time you think the song might chill, it kicks up to another gear with a brutal stank-face riff (like at the 2:10 mark). I absolutely just love everything about this, and I'm not even a huge Gojira fan.

Watching Elizabeth geek out over it was adorable as well.

Never really listened to Gojira before. But this song sounded great. I will have to check them out. That has to be the most metal thing ever in Opening Cermony history!

Their best and most consistent album is “Way of All Flesh”, imo. All the others have a few good tracks but aren’t nearly as good overall.

The only The Sword album I had heard previous to this was their debut Age of Winters, but a record show I was watching had accidentally mispriced this one and I got it for a steal. This final album is generally considered the bottom ranked of the six they released, but I'm really digging it.

Amorphis' "Tales From the Thousand Lakes" is a genre classic. Released in 1994, it was a stunning shift from standard death metal into melodic folk metal that hadn't really been done before (or done this well, anyways). The album's one glaring weakness were the clean vocals, which were...not great. I remember one review saying "Amorphis tries to mix in some clean sections, which doesn't really work". The "doesn't really work" line has become my benchmark phrase for metal bands who try to blend in bad clean vocals. Since then, the original singer left and Tomi Joutsen has been their frontman for the past 20 years. Tomi is an absolute vocal powerhouse with bellowing death growls and rich cleans. He's a massive improvement in every way.

For the album's 30th anniversary, Amorphis did a live re-recording of "Tales" with Tomi at the helm. It's an absolutely stunning re-creation and while the janky old vocals had their charms, Tomi's new version is absolutely amazing. It vastly improves on an album that was already a classic, which I didn't think would be possible. I cannot wait to see them next month.

I saw The Sword open for Metallica once. It was the only good part of that entire evening. Gods, Metallica was so, so terrible.

I will have to check out the live version. I can't handle Amorphis pre-Tomi. It's not just the singing. The production and music isn't as good to me. Love their more recent work.

It's a HUGE upgrade in quality. However, it's worth noting that this "live" album isn't a concert recording (there was no crowd there) but rather them playing a one-take recording of the album start to finish at a Finnish metal club.

I loved the original (despite it's vocal quirks and muddy production) but would say that this is now the definitive version of the album.

That actually sounds more appealing than a "proper" live album with crowd noise, etc. Thanks for the info.
