It is weak but I like the class itself..its hard to type out why...its history its spells look cool it is the death and decay class. But ya its weak and it doesn't even get a permanent combat pet. I mean could one little skeleton have been so bad?

The only thing that seems to be on a timer is the achievement reward (a unique mount) for completing the scribing quest line. That has a one-month window.

I'll get around to this eventually, but am in no rush.

I finished up the scribing quest line, so it's not all that time consuming to get it out of the way. I haven't really done much with it so far aside from the one skill you scribe right at the outset to demonstrate how scribing works.

One annoying thing is that the scribing system barely touches the class skills. The only tie-in to classes is the class mastery signature script, and that requires grinding out 50 "script scraps" that mostly require completing high-end content (trials, dungeons, etc) that I don't do. Apparently I can get them by grinding through the Infinite Archive, so I'm not completely out of luck, but it's still disappointing that the only aspect of scribing that involves the actual classes (but still not class skills) requires so much grind.

After some experimentation, it looks I should be reliably able to grind out a couple scraps per day, one from turning in a master crafting writ and one from completing a solo arena. In theory I could get another one from completing a dungeon, but for all practical purposes that is off the table because it requires using the dungeon finder, and that never actually finds a group for me before I get tired of waiting. Soloing a dungeon of my choice or completing an Undaunted pledge dungeon doesn't seem to count. It should also be possible to get a scrap by "completing" a run in the Infinite Archive, but after a couple of runs where I completed the first arc I still haven't had a scrap drop for me. The other options involve being good at PVP (which I'm not) and completing trials, which can't be done solo. So it's going to take me a month or two to unlock the class mastery script, but at least I only have to do it once.

Your Labors Are Rewarded during the Zeal of Zenithar In-Game Event
The Zeal of Zenithar in-game event returns on June 20 at 10AM EDT, and it runs until July 2 at 10AM EDT. To get started, pick up the introductory quest "The Unrefusable Offer" from Amminus Varo at the Belkarth festival grounds or acquire the free quest starter from the Crown Store. Having trouble locating Belkarth? Don’t worry; just head over to the nearest Impresario tent and take the nearby portal. Upon finishing the intro quest, you unlock the daily quest, "Honest Toil."

Ive tried multiple times to get in the archeology skill stuff. It really sounds fun and in my area of interest. But its also painfully detailed and confusing and time consuming. I think my biggest limit to it is my ADHD . Just sitting myself down to do the work is my biggest hurdle.

The key thing I missed for a long time is that I didn't realize that the Antiquarian's Eye was an actual tool that I was supposed to use to track down the dig site after scrying to find the area where it was located. I was just wandering around in the area until I finally stumbled onto the site. However, if you put the Eye in a quickslot and use it once you're in the area, it gives you a bearing to the site. It makes tracking down the dig site a lot more straight forward and less time consuming.

Easy To Follow Antiquities Guide
Welcome to the Antiquities System Guide for the Greymoor Chapter in ESO (Elder Scrolls Online). The Antiquities System Guide will include both a showcase and a how to of the Scrying and Excavation skill-line lines. Travel across Tamriel to recover lost artifacts with the new Antiquities System. Scry the location of ancient relics and excavate them to uncover Tamriel’s hidden history and become a world-renown Archaeologist!

Table of Contents for the Antiquities Guide
  • Where Do I Start?
  • Antiquities System
  • Scrying
  • Excavation
  • Questions
  • Leveling The Antiquities System
  • Full Skill-line Showcase
  • Video Guide
I find antiquities to be a sort of relaxing side activity, kind of like how some people who aren't me enjoy fishing. It does feed you a steady trickle of lore as you dig up the bits and bobs, but there is also a payoff when you master it and can start recovering artifacts that can be either housing items or mythic equipment. Some of the mythic items are extremely powerful, such as the Oakensoul Ring or Ring of the Pale Order.

Just to add that even if you failed to dig up the artefacts, you can always use that Antiquarian Eye again and it will point you to another dig site in the same vicinity. It’s like there’s no way to fail to dig up the item once you have successfully scry it.

Well I turned everything off and got the gold road quest line started. But I cant see my spells listed at the bottom of the screen now..at all. So may have to turn some part of the UI mods back on..dammit. The Gold Road seems to start with 3 portals to different places. I suppose it doesn't matter which I choose and that I will have to do all 3 areas eventually anyways. Right? So off I go to test things.

Im not even using my main character necromancer. Since this Gold Road stuff seems to continue the Necrom stuff Ill be using my Arcanist I created for that story and continue with it.

Yeah, I go through that cycle with broken addons every time there's a major update to the game. Usually they just get flagged as out of date but still work, but sometimes there is a significant enough change to the API that things break.

Speaking of outdated (and possibly broken) addons, Update 43 is live on PC servers today, and will be live on console servers in September.

Version 10.1.5 aka Update 43 Patch Notes
Welcome to The Elder Scrolls Online v10.1.5 and the Update 43 base game patch! This update introduces Home Tours, a new tool to help you find and share housing creations. We’ve also made some updates to Infinite Archive to add new Arenas, Verses and Visions, plus added 7 new Class Sets and some additional curated item sets. You’ll also find new collectibles, achievements, titles, and enjoy a few additional quality of life changes including the game now remembering your last selected Guild Store or Guild Bank.

In addition to these features, we have a long list of bug fixes and improvements to the entire game, such as a number of adjustments affecting Scribing (including some new Ink sourcing!), quest content, some combat balance adjustments, and more. This size of this patch is approximately 1.9GB.

I got tired of messing with it and deleted the entire install. Then I searched for anything elder scrolls related on my drives and deleted that too. Then reinstalled. Solved all the error issues. So Im good now.

But then I met the prologues boss monster. Kicked my ass 20 times last night before I got frustrated and simply exited the game. Ill log back in today and give it another go. I seem to do well and do what expected of me then suddenly I just fall dead as a door nail from some attack the boss does. Wipes me right out before I can even heal. Might have to look up a video on it.

I don't like the vanilla UI very much, so at a minimum I "need" to keep the Advanced UI addon operational. Aside from that I just use a few QoL addons for keeping track of harvest nodes and such. In a lot of cases, even when they are technically out of date because they no longer match the API version number they still work just fine. Luckily most of the addons I use are still actively supported by their creators, so they get updated reasonably quickly following patches.

Patch notes v10.1.6

The daily log-in rewards this month include a couple of DLC dungeons, along with a bunch of house decorations for those who are into that sort of thing.
Fang Lair & Scalecaller Peak—Days 3 & 4

You can unlock the DLC dungeons Fang Lair and Scalecaller Peak for free this September simply by logging in. Fang Lair unlocks upon your third login, while Scalecaller Peak unlocks with your fourth. Both dungeons are part of this month’s Anniversary Spotlight, so prepare to challenge necromancers and cultists while you untangle the ancient legacy of the Dragon Thurvokun.

Apparently there's another major update waiting in the wings.

Update 44 Preview—Battlegrounds, New Companions, & More!
The Update 44 base-game patch arrives October 28 for PC/Mac and November 13 for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. This new update introduces new features, changes, and quality-of-life improvements, and it is free for all existing ESO players (with the notable exception of the new Companions, who you can purchase for free with ESO Plus™ membership or with crowns from the Crown Store…more on them below!).
The new companions sound interesting, particularly in that they seem to provide a unique buff when you have them active. It'd be nice if they update the existing companions with a similar feature, but I'm not holding my breath for that.
Update 44 also introduces two brand-new Companions to ESO: Tanlorin and Zerith-var. Tanlorin is a scrappy High Elf who mixes Soul Magic with Dragonknight abilities, while the stoic Khajiit Zerith-var utilizes the power of Necromancy.

At launch, you can acquire both new allies for free with an active ESO Plus membership or purchased with crowns from the in-game Crown Store. Once acquired, you can find and recruit them within the zones of Auridon (Tanlorin), and Reaper’s March (Zerith-var).

Like previous Companions, each will have their own introductory quest that you will need to complete before you can summon them. In addition to being unique new characters (with their own stories, personalities, and quest lines), these two new Companions each also provide a special passive perk when adventuring with them:
  • Tanlorin grants “Tanlorin’s Finesse,” which provides an increase to the time it takes to pick a lock, an increased chance to force a lock, and a reduced chance to break a lockpick.
  • Zerith-var grants “Zerith’s Guidance,” which highlights valuable bags of loot found throughout Tamriel.
While these perks are active when adventuring with each Companion in question, they can be permanently unlocked by completing each ally’s unique Achievement.

A Gold Road-themed event, requiring access to West Weald, starts today and runs until Oct 8. It has a community challenge in addition to the usual event coffers and tickets.

Seek Ayleid Relics to Unlock Rewards during the Fallen Leaves of West Weald Event
Throughout the event period, you can acquire the new daily quest, “Fallen Leaves of West Weald,” available from Gandrinar, located outside the Skingrad Impresario’s tent. To complete this new daily, collect lost Ayleid relics, bundle them, and bring them back to Gandrinar. Doing so will grant event quest rewards (and on occasion, some additional lore about the region’s ancient rulers), in addition to progressing the Fallen Leaves of West Weald meter, found on the event’s official page.

As the community completes the new daily quest, they help progress a new event meter, unlocking three tiers of rewards:
  • 33%—Vineyard Voriplasm pet
  • 66% —Luminescing Varla Stone memento
  • 100%—Russet Brekka mount, Tree-Sap Legion arms pack, and a nesting rewards box
While the event (and community chase) is ongoing, you can receive a special Sublime Fallen Leaves Coffer for the first West Weald zone daily quest you complete each day AND then earn regular Fallen Leaves Coffers for various activities after.

Note that you can also acquire regular Fallen Leaves Coffers by defeating bosses and monsters, harvesting resource nodes, pickpocketing, or opening treasure chests, safeboxes, psijic portals, Thieves Troves, or other lootable objects within West Weald.
During the Fallen Leaves of West Weald event, you can earn two Event Tickets per day by completing Gandrinar’s quest, any zone daily quest, or the Lucent Citadel weekly quest.
