I like Boba Fett too. That’s why I hate what they did with him.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
As someone who saw all the Star Wars movies (except the original which I saw on HBO) in the theater, I have never understood the fans' obsession with and how precious they are about Boba Fett who is barely in Empire and gets quickly and comically dispatched in Return of the Jedi. His show turned him into a much more interesting character than the few scarce minutes he appears in the 2 movies.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
Even without an unexplainable fan base, the story was mediocre at best, the characters were ridiculously written and the conclusion was a Hallmark Greeting Card come to life...and not in a good way. It symbolized why folks don't expect much from Star Wars shows. Replacing Boba Fett with any other character in Star Wars would still result in the same thing: a really poor show.
Obviously this is just my opinion, however. We've all sounded off on things we like and we've piped up when we don't like something. This is me just being the latter this time.

For me, it was the uniqueness of his outfit that caught my eye and sucked me in.JCC wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 9:54 am As someone who saw all the Star Wars movies (except the original which I saw on HBO) in the theater, I have never understood the fans' obsession with and how precious they are about Boba Fett who is barely in Empire and gets quickly and comically dispatched in Return of the Jedi. Plus I read a lot of expanded universe stuff that fleshed him out.

I haven't watched this show and doubt I ever will.
What surprises me so damn much is that you'd think the Star Wars universe would be able to make great shows/movies with ease, and what we're seeing is that it's really freakin' hard to make something worth watching.
It's all about the stories and they just can't get it right.

If you watch 12 shows that are pretty mediocre to awful in a franchise, I think it’s safe to say they have a problem even if you stop watching before the 14th one.

I've watched enough to know that if I read reviews of the next one that are brutal I shouldn't waste my time.
Yes, Andor was fantastic. It's what gives me hope.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
After a few episodes I just read spoiler filled reviews and recaps and feel I’m up to speed and don’t need to watch the rest of the series. I did enjoy the big bad character and how he took care of business. I figured that would be a good stopping point.
Like everyone else, waiting patiently for the next season of Andor.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
Just finished this last night. Overall I thought it was pretty good - seems like I may be in the minority on that. I thought the steady reveal of what happened on the witch planet over time was handled pretty well. My main grip was with the ending. When I watched the last episode I was tired and a little sick, but I'm 95% sure that didn't really make much of any sense, and that with some small tweaks could have been a lot better.
One other thing that kept throwing me off is that the guy who plays one of the main bad guys is the same actor who plays Jason in The Good Place. During the battle scenes I kept expecting him to shout "BORTLES!!!" when he was going into the fights.

I generally liked it too though as I noted before still think it's probably my least favorite of the Disney Star Wars shows. I was beyond delighted when Jason was revealed to be the Sith. My lady friend and I are (and were) watching (rewatching in my case) the Good Place when this aired so it was highly amusing for both of us to see him as a Sith!

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
I ended up giving it a shot and I'm actually glad I did. This show was different and I enjoyed it. There were some stupid things I just had to accept, but the portrayal of the Jedi as high and mighty and the Sith as force users with legitimate grievances with the Jedi was something I've wanted to see for a long time. It didn't have anything to do with the Skywalker line or hipster biker gangs and resisted (except for the final scenes) fan service callbacks.
I'd give it a 7/10. It was SO much better than Boba Fett or Ahsoka.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
Disney has canceled plans for a season 2 of The Acolyte. I read that viewership was pretty low and I blame that on the early review bombing and that people were getting tired of bad Star Wars content and figured this would be more of the same.

Disney needs to put it's money into Andor and Andor-likes. They should take a chill on jedi for like 10 years and then bring it back out.

They need to create a Star Wars comedy and take some of the piss out of the mythology. It's gotten too full of itself.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
Another thought: Star Wars is full of characters that teeter on the edge of horror (the Night Sisters, the Sith in general, etc.). They should do a series that just fully commits to being a horror series.
Just stop giving us the same goddamn shows over and over and over again. *
*This does not include Andor as it is truly great.

Finally finished this last night and hoo boy what a stinker. I think it's by far the worst of the Star Wars TV series - I would happily watch Boba Fett Newsies another time than this snooze-fest.
The entire season turned on an event that I can't quite fathom:
At least Manny Jacinto is getting work, I guess.

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
This is hardly something "different" about the Acolyte worthy of praise.
The prequel trilogy was definitely all about how the Jedi were flawed. As was the case with the Clone Wars. As was the case with the sequel trilogy.
Only the original trilogy eulogized the Jedi.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
I haven't seen all the shows, such as the cartoons, but I don't remember the Jedi being shown as control freaks like they were here. They made mistakes in other films, but here they were treating citizens of some other planet as their subjects.
This was the best showing of why some force users would consider the Jedi enemies.
This is so much better than focusing on old characters because there is a pretty rich universe that was getting a little stagnant before Andor and The Acolyte. Keep in mind, I think Andor was much better than The Acolyte. However, The Acolyte gave me hope that they are willing to continue exploring other storylines.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
I've watched very little of the animated shows. But the other things you mentioned showed the flaws as being born of noble intent, at the very least. Acolyte showed us petty Jedis with flaws born out of their own hubris and ego.
Am I "praising" the show?
No.
But I enjoyed it far more than the Boba Fett show.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
It's pretty clear to me in the prequels that the Jedi were zealous about rounding up force sensitive children and indoctrinating them into their (religious) order. Albeit, making sure they were young enough to be malleable to following their quasi-religious dogma.

Re: [Disney+] The Acolyte
You may have read into the movies such a thing. But never once did I feel that was what those movies were trying to convey. I don't recall anything but smiling children being patted on the head by kind Jedi. I'm hard pressed to think of even one scene where the jedi schools were presented in such a way.
