Stupid mouse noises
I can't figure out why every few seconds when I move my usb mouse I get a stupid beep. It is the kind of noise you get if a usb connection comes loose. It happens both in games and in Windows. The mouse I was using (making the noise) was getting less and less responsive until widows stopped recognizing it as a device. So I plugged in a different mouse and still get the damn beeps. Anyone have a clue what is causing this?

Re: Stupid mouse noises
Update: I think I may have solved it. I have a usb extender cord and thought maybe that was it, so I plugged the mouse directly into the back of the pc. Still making the noise. I felt like Yurgir in BG3. Then I tied a different usb port and I think that did the trick. At least I didn't have to kill myself.

Ya I just saw this and was gonna say bad USB port but see you solved it.
When I saw the thread title though I was thinking "who still has moving parts in their mouse?"

Re: Stupid mouse noises
Damn it, the beep came back. I'm pretty sure the culprit is Baldur's Gate 3, I was fine until I started playing that again. Even after a reboot and a switch to another usb port it started again.

Re: Stupid mouse noises
It's possible that the mouse itself is defective. To troubleshoot, try using a different USB mouse with your system to see if the issue continues. Alternatively, connect the potentially faulty mouse to a different computer to check if the intermittent USB connection sound notifications still occur. This will help you determine whether the problem lies with the mouse itself or with your original system.

Re: Stupid mouse noises
That was the first thing I tried. It happens with two different mouses. I will try both of them on my laptop.Anonymous Bosch wrote: ↑Thu Aug 22, 2024 7:56 pmIt's possible that the mouse itself is defective. Re: Stupid mouse noises
Wired? Wireless?
If wired, the issue could be a kinked cord breaking internally, or the soldered connection between the cord and the mouse being weak. If wireless, it could be a dying receiver.

Re: Stupid mouse noises
It is wired, and trying different mouses and different cords seems to rule that out. Will be testing on the laptop today.

Re: Stupid mouse noises
So Baldur's Gate 3 is definitely causing the problem. Both mouses work with the laptop, and everything was fine until I fired up BG3. After 15 minutes or so the beeping started on the laptop. If was confusing because one mouse works with the laptop but not the PC. I guess I will just have to live with it for now.

Maybe it can't keep up with the input requests as described here?Jaymann wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 8:03 pm I can't figure out why every few seconds when I move my usb mouse I get a stupid beep. Re: Stupid mouse noises
Is it a corded mouse that's connected to a failing usb port on your pc? When you move the mouse, the cord moves around and that gentle movement wiggles the connection and your computer loses and finds the device?
Can you go back to the pc's connection side, and very gently move the cord a bit, closer to the PC to see if that alone generates the noise? (keeping the mouse itself still)...

...or set something heavy on the cord where it crosses the desk so that the tail end can't move.

Re: Stupid mouse noises
You, my friend, are a gentleman and a scholar. In that link there was a fix described of using the command prompt (as admin) to disable beep. They were talking about a different kind of beep, but so far after a couple hours of BG3 it seems to be working. Will probably have to do the command every time I reboot, but well worth it.stessier wrote: ↑Sat Aug 24, 2024 3:05 amMaybe it can't keep up with the input requests as described here?Jaymann wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 8:03 pm I can't figure out why every few seconds when I move my usb mouse I get a stupid beep. Update: It turns out I had two different mouses going on the fritz at the same time. Two new ones = no problemo.
