It is with great sadness that I find myself penning the hardest news post I’ve ever needed to write here at AnandTech. After over 27 years of covering the wide – and wild – word of computing hardware, today is AnandTech’s final day of publication.
For better or worse, we’ve reached the end of a long journey – one that started with a review of an AMD processor, and has ended with the review of an AMD processor. It’s fittingly poetic, but it is also a testament to the fact that we’ve spent the last 27 years doing what we love, covering the chips that are the lifeblood of the computing industry.
A lot of things have changed in the last quarter-century – in 1997 NVIDIA had yet to even coin the term “GPU” – and we’ve been fortunate to watch the world of hardware continue to evolve over the time period. We’ve gone from boxy desktop computers and laptops that today we’d charitably classify as portable desktops, to pocket computers where even the cheapest budget device puts the fastest PC of 1997 to shame.
The years have also brought some monumental changes to the world of publishing. AnandTech was hardly the first hardware enthusiast website, nor will we be the last. But we were fortunate to thrive in the past couple of decades, when so many of our peers did not, thanks to a combination of hard work, strategic investments in people and products, even more hard work, and the support of our many friends, colleagues, and readers.
Still, few things last forever, and the market for written tech journalism is not what it once was – nor will it ever be again. So, the time has come for AnandTech to wrap up its work, and let the next generation of tech journalists take their place within the zeitgeist

Wow, should be no sorrow in that at all...what an accomplishment! They used to be my go-to site when I was much more involved with PC tinkering, fixing and upgrading. Their research and writing was top notch.

That was always my go-to when it came to advice on problem solving or components.

Ive used Anandtech since I started in the mid 90s, the beginning times. I trusted their info and forums when I was new and didn't know something . I could look to them to get info on my upcoming pc build.
Farewell Anandtech. God speed.

Some good news:
Hi folks,
We wanted to make sure that you’re aware of this article that just went out regarding the future of Anandtech.
I wanted to clarify that even though we are ceasing content creation on the main site, there are no plans to close the forum at this time.
We know the forum has a long history, people have made a home here for decades and will have concerns. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask with the understanding that most likely can’t be answered right now or will be covered by it having no impact on the forum. Aside from that please be sure to let the team know how much you've appreciated their work in the article comments, there's a lot of very kind words there already and they're well earned.

Oh wow, that is fantastic. I definitely used to consult the forums as well, and they still come up as Google results occasionally when I am troubleshooting something.Blackhawk wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2024 3:36 pm Some good news:

Are forums without an active front page even a thing?

Re: RIP AnandTech- HW Enthusiast pioneer
That's really disappointing news given the long history and incredible quality of Anandtech for so many years. It's been one of my go-to sites for hardware information for close to twenty years, and was a big help building my most recent PC six months ago. Anand is leaving behind one heck of a legacy in the hardware news/reviews world.
The forums are also a great asset and it's good to know they will continue, but I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before the quality diminishes. Other sites have tried the same thing in the past (like HardOCP) and participation inevitably fades without a front page driving exposure.

At least they didn't say they'd close the forums in favor of a Discord channel. That'd be the worst as discord channels aren't indexed the way forum threads are.
