Steam Notifications and Kasey Chang
Anyone getting spammed by Kasey Chang on Steam? It seems like it's going through his entire library and is telling me he is playing each and every game he owns. Been going on since last n ight.

I imagine he's card/achievement farming.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Fun fact - he's the reason I turned off friend status notifications a few years back. I was getting spaz-notified about 37 games running while playing some game and it put me on tilt.

I turned off those notifications years ago. There are very few situations in which I want to get a popup telling me that someone is playing Civ.

Re: Steam Notifications and Kasey Chang
Wow, I had no idea Steam sent those notifications, or at least didn't remember it because I must have disabled them ages ago myself.
I too run Idle Master/equivalent programs sometimes. I've financed at least a few games by selling Steam cards.
Sorry to anyone I've inadvertently spammed over the years!

I saw a commercial on late night TV. It said, "Forget everything you know about slipcovers." So I did. And it was a load off my mind. Then the commercial tried to sell me slipcovers, and I didn't know what the hell they were. -- Mitch Hedberg

Re: Steam Notifications and Kasey Chang
Is it still profitable to farm/sell cards?! I thought that sweet situation died years ago. The market seems to price everything at .03 -.04 now (except for foils of course).

Re: Steam Notifications and Kasey Chang
Probably not as effective as it was during the salad days of the card program, no. But depending on the game, they can go for closer to $0.07 - $0.12 a card. It helps with sales tax (having all those banked pennies) so I keep selling cards. During the holiday events I still collect and sell the daily freebies. I had two (two?!) foil cards drop for me while just viewing my Discovery Queue and I think that earned me somewhere around a $0.25 total - which was nice.

I think I've sold maybe 4 cards total in my life. I have zero clue how any of that works. I suspect it has something to do with magnets.

I gave probably a few hundred cards away. I probably could have 10 bucks or less for the effort of selling them but they were more value to someone who cared than they were to me to worry about.

I sell cards for games I don't love, and use the cents left over to complete sets for games I do love. Does it net me anything meaningful? Of course not, but there's no actual expense, and it satisfies my 'collector' urge.

I get annoyed with cards, especially when I often end up getting duplicates. They end up feeling like useless clutter.

I have no problem if you all turn my notifications off.

It’s not a granular setting.Kasey Chang wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2024 7:12 pm I have no problem if you all turn my notifications off.
It’s ‘notifications’ for all friends or not.
So the only solution would be to unfriend.
You though, could turn it off on your side to spare everyone.
We have no problem if your turn it off

I'm sure there are several ways but the first I found was in your profile under privacy settings
Though it kills a lot more than you in game statusGame details:Friends OnlySaved.
This category includes the list of all games on your Steam account, games you’ve wishlisted, your achievements and your playtime. This setting also controls whether you’re seen as "in-game" and the title of the game you are playing.
Always keep my total playtime private even if users can see my game details.

It also blocks any integration of any other site or service with Steam, including game front-ends, sites like Steam Library Filters, etc. People have been begging for an option to only turn off the pop-ups since the pop-ups were introduced. Steam has always bundled the option with all of the secondary functionality.
They view it as advertising. If all of your friends are suddenly playing Pants Pirates 4, there's a good chance you'll want to be cool, too.
Invisible mode (on the end of the person playing the games) is a little better, but it still hides you from your friends.
Personally, I don't need to have a window pop up in front of what I'm doing every time a friend decides to play a game. I turned those notifications off ages ago.

Yeah, I've been getting those notifications too. It's pretty weird—seems like Kasey Chang's account is either bugging out or there's some issue with Steam itself. Maybe it's a glitch where Steam is constantly sending out "playing" notifications for every game in his library.
You could try muting notifications from his account for now. Hopefully, it gets fixed soon, either by him or Steam support.

Be honest with us, "saturn", is Kasey Chang's PC totally compromised?

KC explained this elsewhere - it's a program that opens games to idle for x amount of time to mine trading cardssaturn wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 8:41 am Yeah, I've been getting those notifications too.
