Also seems like the guy was wildly pro-Ukraine. Given Trump's views on Ukraine & Russia, that's a plausible motive.

Given the guy's history, I'm leaning toward mental illness.

Well yes almost certainly, but even with mental illness there's still going to be a motive.

I assume the motive was some form of: "that for things to be right, Trump needed to be shot."

I don't know if the story is true, but I read that he kept a horse in his living room. A horse. Like... a real horse. So yeah... probably mentally not all there.

I think the very non-imaginary RFK animal sightings were a dead bear cub and a decapitated whale head. I might have missed one, though.msduncan wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 12:46 pmI thought RFK had a horse head (not imaginary)?Archinerd wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:24 pmRFK bait?Default wrote: ↑Tue Sep 17, 2024 8:15 pmBetter than all those jerks with *imaginary* horses. No, you are right. It was a whale head I was thinking about. Re: Donald Trump whisked off stage in Pennsylvania after apparent gunshots rang through the crowd
I was going to quote myself regarding a recent post I made but can't find it. Someone said something along the lines of "welp, there goes the election", after the most recent Trump ass. scare. I pushed back wondering why that would make anyone more likely to vote for Trump, did not make sense to me.
Today, head of Teamsters, paraphrased, but very close to his quote: "You may like or dislike Donald Trump, but after the recent events in Pennsylvania and Florida, you have to admit that he's one tough SOB!" This is after announcing that they would not back either candidate this election.

1. The majority of Americans do not follow politics, yes, even currently, sadly. This has been studied and backed by several different groups.
2. Team MAGA still gets one vote per person AFAIK. No provisions for bonus votes for attempted assassination of your candidate in the Constitution. They were going to vote for him yesterday and they will vote for him just as many times in November.
3. The Biden mess makes it a bit more complicated I guess, so let’s call it Team Blue.
Don’t see this event changing those votes either. ‘Before today, I was going to vote for Biden, but now I’m 100% team Trump’s Earlobe’ doesn’t make a lot of sense.
So I guess we’re talking about people who weren’t going to vote. What about this event would compel someone to now want to vote?

If you want to read the court filing that contains the details on the shooting at the golf course, go here; it was submitted this morning.

Re: Donald Trump whisked off stage in Pennsylvania after apparent gunshots rang through the crowd
I find it odd (in the, if this was a TV series - I'd question the writers on this) that we've had 2 attempts on Trump's life, now. You would think at the end of this term and as the elections draw close, that there is a chance that Trump is just not elected. Especially this latest attempt, where Harris seems to be polling so well... I could see, if Trump were re-elected, how each of these individuals would have come to their own conclusions that they must take matters into their own hands, but this just seems like an odd moment to decide that.

Pure speculation, but if this guy was a Republican never-Trumper, the idea would be to kill Trump, have a Haley or a Ramaswamy take his place, and hopefully they stand a better change against Harris.

Isn't it too late to change the ballots anyway? I remember Trump making a big deal about it when Biden dropped out, even before he was nominated. Now that both parties are nominated I would assume it's too late.YellowKing wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 8:48 am Pure speculation, but if this guy was a Republican never-Trumper, the idea would be to kill Trump, have a Haley or a Ramaswamy take his place, and hopefully they stand a better change against Harris.

If a candidate is removed (by death or some other means) after the ballots are printed, any votes cast for them would just go to the replacement candidate. This was the scenario in play if Mark Robinson had agreed to step down.
But we're trying to apply logical thinking to the motivations of someone crazy enough to attempt to assassinate a presidential candidate. Their reasoning doesn't necessarily have to make sense.

Judges gonna judge. Is Cannon being Cannon significant in this case?

I dunno if it's really significant in any way, but it's an interesting coincidence given her track record for being as pro-Trump as Trump-appointed judges come.

It doesn't seem like a coincidence to me, given where the attempt happened. Of all of the things to go after the Cannon/TFG relationship, this seems like a nothingburger, it is what it is, to me. What are they gonna do? Mistrial an attempted assassin with a pro TFG judge and blame it on the liberal miscarriage of justice?

Re: Donald Trump whisked off stage in Pennsylvania after apparent gunshots rang through the crowd
I meant coincidence literally, not as a euphemism. AFAIK she would have been assigned to the case randomly from the pool of available judges, no?
The impact on the trial, if she is biased, would be that the defendent may not get a fair hearing or may get hit with the most severe possible sentence. If so, and she's too obvious about it, it might provide grounds for an appeal, I suppose.

It might actually be a good thing if it makes the loose Cannon unavailable for any future DonOld trials.

I wouldn't count on her being out of circulation for long, based on the funniest hot take I've seen today...
Trial, verdict, sentencing, and execution all expected to be carried out by tomorrow.

It a great thing, because who needs the bullshit comments about how some non-Trump-appointed judge did X, Y, and Z all wrong.
