I wanted to start a thread on this game to sing its praises. I'm not sure what to call it, but it's not a new genre, I just don't know its name.
A group of survivors crash on a planet and you need to start from scratch examining and collecting resources to build a base and food sources so you can tech up and stay alive. There are a couple of scenarios so it's not always the same goals, and there are a number of biomes so rare resources and their nature changes based on where you (choose to) land. It's a game setting.
You manage the team by highlighting tasks and then they engage in those tasks based on priorities you set for them. They each have their own set of skills, as well as traits that make them somewhat unique. You can also directly assign a specific task that needs to be done asap.
It's not perfect, but it's really, really good and it scratches the same itch that Surviving the Aftermath (same people as Surviving Mars) did.
I'm not sure it's worth full price, but I got it from the September monthly humble bundle and it has been a lot of fun. I even bought the DLC, which is somewhat rare for me.

Re: Stranded: Alien Dawn
So apparently this is whatever genre Rimworld is.
