Anybody doing anything fun/interesting/election-related on election day this year? I got recruited last minute to man an voters' rights hotline for people in North Carolina calling in seeking help with questions about their rights. Kind of funny that someone from NC might end up talking to someone from Portland, Oregon about concerns with their ability to vote, but that's the world we live in today. I can only imagine the kind of calls we'll be fielding.

At the end of the day, I have a nice bottle of scotch waiting for me . . . either way.

Getting ready to man the walls of democracy as a poll worker from 6:30 until after the polls close. My daughter is also working the same polling precinct but only a half day. She's probably the smart one but I wanted to be all in for democracy

Heading in to man the poll in SC. Precinct has 2400 registered voters, but we have no idea how many voted early and SC had historic early turnout. I'm told they had 1600 votes cast in 2020. See you on the other side.

I had this conversation with my dad the other day. He's in PA and for some reason takes pride in only voting on election day. This idea of early voting is completely foreign to him. I asked him what if he got sick or something happened that kept him from getting to the polls and he just couldn't fathom that scenario from happening.

Thankfully he's adamantly anti-Trump, and has been since the 80's. I remember having conversations with him about how Trump was a con-artist from before The Apprentice.

My polling place is the community center for our townhome community. Just a 10 minute walk from my house. It opened at 6am and I was up at 4:30am because of the time change and anxiousness about today. Got there at 6:10 and it was just starting to get busy. I made sure to thank the volunteers working the polls.

My kid (20) is serving as a poll worker all day today. We've all already voted, he he sent pics of a block-long line before the polls even opened.

I'm technically working from home, but I plan to do some last-minute canvassing this morning. Just a few doors left unknocked.

(We've all been told to work remotely today because access to our buildings is affected by the take-down of the truly massive rally Harris held in Philly last night.)

My family all voted on Sunday, had about an hour wait to get in. I'm one of those weirdos that likes to vote on Election Day. I encouraged all of my family members to vote early, but always waits myself.

I have time this afternoon blocked in my calendar to go vote. We were all encouraged by our president to take time out of our work day, skip a meeting, put something on the back burner, block out the time and go. I am going to take him up on that offer, and then come home and play either Stardew Valley or Fallout 4, depending on how optimistic or bleak my world outlook is at the time.

Wife and I went in at 8:00 to vote - no big change in the scene from the last 4 times we've voted there (to be expected though) - however there were 2 'well under 25' year-olds working the counter, which was nice to see.

I also like to go in and vote in person. I'm genuinely interested in the scene, the methods, their evolution, the machines, etc. Just once, every 4 (or actually 2) years do I get to see it all, and I think I'd miss that if I just mailed it in. Almost akin to how some people feel about a movie theater experience compared to just watching it at home. "It's just not the same" unless I go there. I also like to thank the people there, in person. It's like the only time, ever, that I get to be up close and personal with "democracy". I could see being a volunteer someday.

While I was in line, some dickhead started berating a volunteer. I gues he had changed addresses seveal time and had to fill out forms or something. By the time I walked over, he was pulling paperwork out of his pockets and saying, "This is what I needed to fill out, not that! If you were properly trained, or not dumb, whichever it is, you would know!" Shit like that. He had obviously planned for his overly complicated situation to stump them and came in hot from the jump.

I am friends with a couple who was working the polling place so I felt more compelled than usual to step in. I asked if they needed help but they said they'd handle it. The poor worker was shaking and on the verge of tears. On the way out I told her not to worry about it, the guy was an asshole. Most of the peole leaving said the same thing.

“They’re up to mischief, it seems. They don’t want us to have a smooth, fair and accurate election, and if they can get us to fight among ourselves, they can count that as a victory,” he said. “That tells you a little bit about the Russians. They’re not our friends. Anyone that thinks they are hasn’t been reading the newspapers

Pennsylvania's Cambria County has voting hours extended after scan error

Voters will now have until 10 p.m. to cast a ballot in Cambria County, Pennsylvania after problems with scanning machines Tuesday morning.

The Pennsylvania Department of State posted the following on X at 9:45 a.m.

"The Department of State is in contact with county officials in Cambria County. Voters are continuing to vote by paper ballot, in accordance with normal operations, while the county resolves the issue with in-precinct scanning. We are working with the County to resolve this technical matter and remain committed to ensuring a free, fair, safe, and secure election."

The last time election day coincided with Wife's birthday dinner was 2016. We watched the returns at the bar in Not Your Average Joe's, along with some of the staff. No one could believe what we were seeing.

It took me about ten minutes in line, and about three to complete my ballot. By the time I left, the line had tripled and was stretched out the door. That's good news. The fact that it's now pouring down rain and there's no dry place for the line to go is the bad news - it'll keep a lot of people home.

Some voters in Apache County, Arizona, were turned away before they could cast ballots on Election Day due to faulty machines, with voting issues “the worst we’ve ever seen,” Katherine Belzowski, assistant attorney general at the Navajo Nation Department of Justice, told CNN.

The faulty machines, which are printing only propositions and not the candidates, on the ballots, are forcing poll workers to use express voting machines, or EVMs, Belzowski said. Each polling location in the county has only one EVM, and the machines are prone to freezing.
