Re: Random randomness
Im glad I answered the phone. Was a medicare place wanting offering me a better deal than Humana. Id been letting it ring for days on that number. I finally decided to see who keeps calling me. Wow..lucky me.It was United healthcare. They offered me a better plan than Humana and I didn't think that was possible. Humana remember gave me a visa each month with $195 but has cut me back to $155. Well this place is giving me a $290 visa and all the stuff Hamana gave me starting January 1 next year. And they were aggressively calling me for this ..AWESOME!

How much of your personal information did you give them over the phone? And how did you verify that they were United Healthcare?

About 80% of all of the scam calls I get (and there are many) are related to Medicare. The absolute assumption should be that if Medicare is involved in a phone call in any way, shape, or form, that it's a scam.
Do not, not not notnotnot not agree to anything Medicare related by phone unless you've looked up the number and dialed it yourself.

Re: Random randomness
For me it is IRS tax scams. I answer the phone on them a lot and act majorly stupid and olde but just quite enough for them to figure I really am that stupid and probably broke or I've been playing them for a fool.
Now a days i get quite bored and want to play with them until it involves actually giving them cash or access to real accounts then I stop playing. I've actually had scammers call me back curse at me. Of course this causes me much amusement.

I misspoke. That advertisement was for Carl's Jr. in California not Burger King. Their burger is even sloppier than BKs.Fardaza wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 10:25 am The ad said, "If it doesn't get all over the place, it doesn't belong in your face!"
I dislike the wet mess that it is also. That's why when I do go to BK, I ask for no ketchup and light mayo on the Whopper. Then it's not bad.
And if you like those toppings on your burger, ask for packets and put on the amount you want.
I ate at BK yesterday for lunch. I asked for no ketchup and light mayo. The patty was a little dry, but it was a decent fast food burger. Fries were pretty good.
McDonalds changed something in their fries a long time ago. They're awful now even if you get them fresh out of the fryer. I suspect they took something out (lard?) and replaced it with something else, but they are absolutely the worst now no matter where you go.
I wish that were true here. When I lived in California, I'd eat at Wendy's (2 or 3 different locations) almost every Sunday when my wife would go to work. They were fantastic! Here in semi-rural Tennessee the one location is pitifully bad. I only go every 6 months or so to see if they've gotten any better. I even had the district manager ask me to give the new manager awhile to straighten it out. Still awful a year later.

As Issie notes: did you take any steps to verify they are who they said they are before giving them any info? You've been the victim of such things in the past and we worry about you.Daehawk wrote: ↑Tue Nov 12, 2024 9:01 pm Im glad I answered the phone. I wish my dog had a snooze button. He came up to our room a full 10 minutes before my alarm went off this morning hoping to get an early start on his walk. I set the alarm for 5:50 and hit snooze once before getting up but he was up there at 5:40.

I stopped setting an alarm when we moved. My clock radio can't get my favorite station anymore so what would be the point without George Knight's morning show? I wake up naturally between 8 (my old alarm time) and 9, unless the cats or the Wife decide I'm getting up earlier.
I think I took a big step on the road to retirement.

We wake up at 6:40 with the dog in the bed between us. We take turns waking and walking the dog on a day by day basis.
Whoever doesn't walk the dog opens the (overnight) dishwasher and starts the coffee maker, then takes the first shower before the dog walker gets back.
This schedule lets us take the same bus into downtown or even (weather permitting) bike together.

I have to use an alarm or I tend to sleep way too late and screw up my rhythmic cicadas. Thick blackout curtains and a white noise machine don't help.

When I was working I was so programmed that I always woke up about 5 minutes before the alarm went off. Now that I'm retired I wake up anywhere from 4:30 am to 10:30 am.

I will be using IHeartRadio on my phone, though. The mountains here make all radio stations iffy, and I'm told that there aren't any good local ones anyway. I do miss getting constantly updated weather and news on drivetime radio, but I sure as hell don't miss traffic reports!

Magic Eye
The Hidden History of Magic Eye, the Optical Illusion That Briefly Took Over the World.
How a 1990s op-art phenomenon went from a tech-spec magazine to households everywhere.
This is the story of how that 1990's 3D hidden object craze that gave you a headache came to be..its a good read. Long but worth it. I remember those things in the 90's in mall stores. I could see some of them and make them out. Then there were ones I never did see at all no matter how much I crossed my eyes or zoned out and tried.

Also, I've seen those types of puzzles in newspapers back in the 90s, and I could never find the hidden image. I came to believe that people who claimed to see the image were lying

The one I posted? It's an image of the actual Magic Eye poster from Mall Rats, that everyone in the film says is a sailboat (except for the guy who can't see it, of course).

Re: Random randomness
I was doing it wrong back in the 90s. I was crossing my eyes then slow relaxing them to see whats there. But the image was like hollow and everything the shape of the image was jumping out at me instead of the object itself. It was sorta if I was seeing it in 3d negative space. I could see the shape of what it was but it was empty like you could reach into that cavity where it had been plucked out.
But now I can do it right and relax and focus my eyes past it like and slowly draw it away from my nose and see the object itself in 3D...its neat and kinda trippy and a bit hard to keep it going. But I am no longer mr backwards man hahaha
Now that my brain is hurting trying to type all that out in a sensible way while under fun meds to make sense Im going to relax with some asmr. Goodnight everybody...try the veal.

Re: Random randomness
There are two important lessons I learned from Mallrats:
- If anyone asks, any autostereogram image is a sailboat (especially if it isn't a sailboat).
- Never, under any circumstances, accept an offer of a chocolate-covered pretzel.

Day of the week's not a problem for me as I have so many set routines with the kids (drum lessons Tuesday, library volunteer Wednesday, guitar lessons Thursday, etc.) But date - yeah I never really know unless it's a holiday. I used to be very aware of dates due to constant project deadlines at work, but most of that has gone away so I rarely have a need to know or care anymore.

Re: Random randomness
Since my accident I started keeping a daily log. It used to be a pain and mental health mindfulness log but it slowly developed in to a general fitness log as I tracked my PT that worked well as a measurable with weight and calorie tracking. You mix that with a daily calendar to make sure I do the things I need to do and pretty aware of the day of the week and month as well as the tomorrows. Basically redeveloping my old work habits in to homelife habits and boy do I need to. If I get a day going and something in my head, I can forget to brush my teeth (no exaggeration) unless I can taste the my mouth being foul and I often have to force myself to do chores as simple as vacuuming or even my exercises/pt based on the calendar planner... Just like I'm still getting paid for my time and labor...
