White’s stamp was one of several announced Friday and set to be released in 2025. Among the others was a stamp featuring Allen Toussaint, the New Orleans-born pianist, singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and music producer who died in 2015.
Other 2025 stamps included a lunar new year stamp for the year of the snake, a 1794 compass rose stamp, a love stamp featuring art by Keith Haring, as well as stamps featuring the Appalachian Trail and more.

Anyone heard of Suzie Kennedy the British Marilyn Monroe impressionist? I had'nt until I saw her on a BGT video just now. She is amazing. She is very good at looking and acting like Monroe. Her facial structure seems very similar.

Re: Random randomness
As mentioned in the medical thread, I had my colonoscopy a couple of days ago. Between not eating actual food for two days, missing an entire night's sleep, and being drugged, I was pretty out of it for a couple of days. Nonetheless, things needed to be done. Yesterday, for instance, was our bi-weekly trip to town for shopping. The following was a brief conversation with my youngest (21yo) this morning.
Him: Are you feeling better today? Still tired?
Me: I've had two full nights' sleep and some actual food. I'm finally feeling like myself this morning.
Him: Damn. That means you won't keep making bad decisions that I benefit from.
At least I've taught my kids to be honest.

That feeling when you start your shiny new game for the first time, then while patiently waiting for the shaders to compile you realize that you forgot to update your video drivers and you're going to need to sit through this all over again as soon as you do that. Re: Random randomness
Well around here you know its the holidays when a week before Thanksgiving some of the local radio stations start playing Christmas music and thats ALL they play 24/7 until after Christmas. I hate the way they start Xmas earlier and earlier. We always hated that.
But The music and Xmas still make me sad without my wife. Xmas and Valentines Day are the two biggest hits to my heart. We loved both so much. And Xmas has been a wonderful thing to me my entire life too. The 2nd place goes to Halloween as it was our favorite holiday. But hearing the Xmas music really hits me hardest. Im not bawling my eyes out but it is sad.
What weirdest to me is our anniversary doesn't seem to affect me. You'd think our anniversary would be the largest hit to my emotions but it seems to be nearly nothing...In fact I usually always forget it. Its November 22nd and when Nov comes I think of it and tell myself I wont forget it this year. Then I forget it until days or even weeks later in Dec when it hits me I forgot it..AGAIN. So I find that one weirdest of all. And Thanksgiving isn't a big hit to me. We loved it..we celebrated it every year and with both our families...but its almost nothing to me. I dont do much for it I guess. I get a turkey breast and bake it for me and Buster to share for a few days. Maybe some cranberry sauce in a can...bout it.
Weird how different holidays affect everyone differently and for different reasons. I can bet at our ages a lot of you also dont feel what you once did at this times and holidays.

Re: Random randomness
Thanksgiving is one of those holidays that I wouldn't even notice were it to disappear. I've been without family for as many Thanksgivings as I've been with them, and 90% of the traditional food is things that I would never order by choice were anything else available. Turkey? Stuffing? Not disgusting, but utterly uninteresting. Sweet potatoes I've hated since I was a child. All I can hope for is some ham and cranberry sauce, but even then, everyone around here uses cranberry relish, which I dislike.
If I still had family to be around, I'd be more positive toward it just for the opportunity to hang out, but I haven't had an actual family Thanksgiving since the early 90s. It's always been either just me, or the family of whoever happens to feel sorry for me that year.

When we lived and worked in California, my wife would work every holiday as a RN. She'd get paid overtime and we don't have any kids, so I'm used to spending holidays by myself.
She's going to the Philippines to help her sister on Sunday (Nov. 24th) and will be gone for about 7 weeks until January 17. So, this year I get to spend our anniversary, Christmas, my birthday, and New Year by myself.
Let the games begin!

Re: Random randomness
Holidays in general are mostly a nuisance to me. I haven't had a paid holiday in 20 years, and I don't have any family nearby. I observe the big ones because I don't want to interfere with other people's enjoyment, but I only participate minimally.
For Thanksgiving, we're getting takeout from a local deli that's offering the traditional dishes a la carte. Wife doesn't eat turkey so we never buy the standard packages that most restaurants offer. I like the ritual meal, but not enough to cook it for two. I'm getting the expected turkey + sausage stuffing while Wife can get a meatless lasagna and vegetarian stuffing. And of course I'll make nachos over the weekend, as I've done for the past five or six Thanksgivings. I make very good nachos and this year I have a modern kitchen with a proper oven.

We're having family Thanksgiving at our house as we've done every year since we got married. I wish you guys that didn't have anywhere to go lived closer, you'd be more than welcome.
I'm taking three days off for Thanksgiving this year and two weeks off for Christmas (a first!), so I'm really looking forward to the holidays.

A friend of mine pointed out that since November 1 is a Friday this year Thanksgiving is the furthest into November it can ever be.
Which means the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas is the shortest - and I haven't even started buying gifts.

Pretty sure we’re doing Thanksgiving at my wife’s sisters house, which has been the norm since my mom passed. Which usually involves tiptoeing around conversation landmines because I have several ultra-MAGA and quite racist relatives. I imagine this year is going to be extra fun. I’m not generally big on turkey and trimming as a meal either, so I generally try to just watch football. stick to the most neutral discussion topics I can think of, and get the hell out of there as soon as I can.
Yay holidays!

Lions game might be a great excuse for me to show up late. Then I can eat and leave. I'd feel like an ass for doing so but I'm in a limited news and no bullshit mode and it's about as healthy as I can mentally be for it. The problem with electing not to show up is that mom literally puts the effort in for her kids and I'm one of them, so opting out would make me feel like a bigger ass, even that is what I really want to do. Not sure when/how my frame of mind will get more resilient but for now this is as good as it gets and I don't want to break what I got. At the same time, I don't know how much time we will get together. No one is getting younger and more healthy, myself included. It's rough being as selfish as I am and then determining what selfish motivator to follow.

The kids' grandmother has decided to go out of town and spend TG with her son on the other end of the state. That pretty much cancels Thanksgiving for us again this year.
Like I said, though - it's not a holiday that I'm overly attached to.

We'll do Thanksgiving for the two of us plus my MIL. Maybe our daughter if she decides not to travel to Texas this year (it's currently off). I enjoy Thanksgiving foods so we'll have a turkey plus all the sides we like (odd note - Costco keto friendly bread makes a pretty good stuffing base). As of right now my wife is saying we will have three pies for the three of us.

Three pies is a great call, can’t have too many. It's a light fluffy bread (boo!) but I rip it up and crisp it a little in the oven on low heat and it works. I did it last year so that my sister and sister in law would be willing to eat the stuffing. This year they won't be around but perhaps it is better for us also so why not.
We're back down to two pies. Pumpkin and mincemeat. The cranberry apply ginger pie will wait and become a desert sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas just to spread things out.

Do you have a wish or dream you've kept since a kid that you'd want to come true still? Mine is being in the old west and having a six gun on my hip and having a street shootout and bar fight and such. I grew up watching Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and The Big Valley. Seeing those 6 gun shootouts with those big puffs of white smoke and that BANG always had me dreaming of being in one in that setting. I used to have my own little plastic cap guns and pretend. Then when Star Trek The Next Generation came out with its holdeck it made me re imagine it all again.

Or just straight up reenactment. There are a number of 'gunslinger' groups in the country that recreate the lifestyle (similar to the way the SCA does with the middle ages, but not to be confused with historical reenactment, which is tied less to Hollywood conceptions and more to history.)

Re: Random randomness
Here's an amusing story. So, about a decade ago, we lost both of our strip clubs. No more adult entertainment in our city anymore. Last week, I was travelling down one of our local streets and noticed that a long-since vacated property with an abandoned BK that has sat there for about 15 years, was finally having something done with the property. My heart skipped a beat when I saw the logo for one of the old strip clubs, and wondered if it could be possibly be returning. Same exact logo as before, but I was thrown by a loop at two added words: Car Wash. That... that's quite a twist. My guess is the business owner is spinning it off seeing as the club was really famous in its day and is using it for name recognition.

My daughter and I were talking this morning about teachers slacking off before the holidays. And I said, "I bet some of them just roll a TV into the classroom and show a movie, right?"
She starts laughing hysterically and says, "Daddy, they don't "roll" TVs into the classroom, they just turn on the screen. That old-timey thing you used to call a "chalkboard" is a smart screen."
I wasn't feeling like I was turning 50 until that moment.

She starts laughing hysterically and says, "Daddy, they don't "roll" TVs into the classroom, they just turn on the screen. That old-timey thing you used to call a "chalkboard" is a smart screen."
I wasn't feeling like I was turning 50 until that moment.
I have no kids so I would definitely show my disconnect with how classrooms are now. I would end up asking, "So no more AV clubs?"... and be laughed out of the room. Man, I remember being in the AV room with many boxes of bulbs to replace in film strips, overhead projectors, movie projectors, waiting for the signal to "roll" down a movie projector to a classroom. The smell of those dusty bulbs when they heat up and were as hot as the surface of the sun.
