I found a fix for my stuck in walk bug. You have to take out a gun, aim it down sights, lean left, and then double tap the run button. No shit that fixes it.

Lot of really good mods coming out for Stalker. The best I’ve seen is a “parkour” mod that allows you to grab on ledges and climb objects that you should be able to climb but can’t. It makes getting around so much easier.

That does sounds interesting. Terrain traversal is one of the things I've been wishing was more fully developed. Bad-ass Skif is stymied by obstacles that decrepit old me could scramble over without too much difficulty.

Reading about what the devs went through while making this has softened my opinion of the game. I think I'll give it more time to stew and then I'll reinstall on game pass.

Steam has been busting my balls with these patches. I'd guess that the devs are using incremental patching, which would take take to apply under the best of circumstances, but for some reason Steam insists on using my old HDD for workspace despite having plenty of free space on the SSD where the game is actually installed, so it literally takes an hour to apply the patch after it's been downloaded. After this most recent patch, I just said screw it and unmounted the Steam library on the HDD (it's just being used for some older games that don't need to be on the SSD). Hopefully that prevents this BS from happening come the next big patch.

In other news, I wish there was a way to hunker down someplace and fast-forward time, similar to how wait/rest functions in Skyrim. I'm out in the middle of the swamp dealing with psi-monsters, and I don't want to do that in the middle of night in a rain storm (again), so I'm sitting in a shack with my PDA out so I can see the clock ticking away until dawn, in real time.

One problem I’m hearing now as people get to the latter part of the game is that there is a disconnect between modding your weapons and repairing them, because the more you mod them, the more the repair costs get. A fully modded weapon can cost a fortune to repair. Some players are suggesting to just throw away a modded weapon when it needs repairing and move to another one. Others are saying to not bother modding weapons, that they are good enough without weapon mods. Seems there needs to be some sort of adjustment for this.

“Ukrainian players were so eager to play the game that the sheer amount of downloading they were doing on release day caused nationwide internet problems for hours. Two internet providers, Tenet and Triolan, confirmed (via ITC) that downloads of Stalker 2 were responsible for overloading the country's network, causing slow internet speeds.”

New patch:

On December 2, GSC gave its fans an early Christmas present in the form of a new gameplay for Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. This Patch 1.1 update contains over 1,800 bug fixes, gameplay adjustments, much needed improvements for its A-Life system, and other miscellaneous changes to address issues that have plagued the game since it launched on November 11, 2024.

Welp, the new patch almost broke the game for me. It kept locking up while compiling the shaders, but after killing the process and relaunching the game it made it a little further before locking up again. After a half dozen restarts it finally completed the process and I was able to load a save with no further issues so far.

There was another 10GB patch today (1.1.2) that was supposed to fix the issues with the game locking up while compiling shaders, but it seems to be just as bad for me as before. I had to kill the process a half dozen times and relaunch the game before it made it all the way through to the start menu.

Unfortunately I think I need to set this aside and give them some more time to patch it. I'm having a lot of fun wandering around the Zone, but it hard-locked my PC twice today, which I didn't even know was a thing that could happen anymore. I've seen people mentioning that there seems to be a memory leak, so I guess this may be what's happening.

I suppose it's time to get back to Dragon Age or Star Wars Outlaws. Or maybe some Total War: Warhammer 3...
