Mike Vick possibly next coach for Sacramento State.

I didn’t know Sac State was building a stadium. I wonder if they end up being the 8th football playing school for the new Pac12?

Yea, I happened to read something about that just before seeing your post. They supposedly have $51m in NIL money stashed for the move.

There are so few schools playing anything close to FBS football on the west coast. UC Davis and Sac State are big enough to move up if they want to pay the price.Pyperkub wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 12:03 amI was really surprised that Davis went to the Mountain west.Scuzz wrote:I didn’t know Sac State was building a stadium. I always wondered why Sac State took so long to develop a sports program. Davis has been a FCS power in the past.

Boo hoo blue bloods. My heart bleeds for you.
NIL, and player freedom of movement is a win win for every CFB fan that doesn't root for a traditional blue blood (ie. 99% of CFB fans). And it's not like the blue bloods can't still compete - they still have many of their traditional advantages. An increase in parity and the spreading out of talent will only benefit the sport. SMU made the playoff in their first year back in a power conference in decades! The Heisman trophy was between a Boise St player and a Colorado player. This makes CFB more exciting and less predictable. The Alabamas and the Ohio States (and other blue bloods) will still have advantages over most of the rest of the sport. But spreading out the talent is GOOD for college football - not bad. Diminishing the inherent advatages of the big programs is GOOD not bad. The sport is evolving. As long as the games are still great, the sport will be fine and continue to thrive.
The next thing they need to change is cutting the bowl games out of the playoffs. Or at the very least make the bowl playoff games adhere to normal TV times. (Fuck you and your sunset Rose Bowl!)

Re: NCAA Football 2024 season
Roarke was awful for 57 minutes. He looked way too jacked up with the way his passes were sailing, and the defense was a bit too jacked up too, missing assignments and tackles most of the first half, almost seeming as if they were trying to win the game with one play on every snap.
Notre Dame was ready to play, and played very well. If Indiana had been in good form, they might have had a shot, but they definitely weren't. ND can definitely beat Georgia, especially if Beck is out.

It'll create more parity among the blue bloods, sure. Everyone else simply becomes a minor-league showcase for the blue bloods to decide which players they want to grab. Two quick cases in point from my own non-blue blood team this week:JCC wrote: Fri Dec 20, 2024 11:14 pm NIL, and player freedom of movement is a win win for every CFB fan that doesn't root for a traditional blue blood (ie. 99% of CFB fans). - Utah's best DB (Cam Calhoun) left for Alabama this week. In talking with the local sports radio, he admitted that he really wanted to stay at Utah but that it would have been "an insane decision" to ignore the financial package that Alabama was offering.
- Last Sunday, Utah received a "commitment" (whatever the hell that means anymore) from Wazzu transfer RB Mike Washington. Yesterday, Arkansas threw a bag at him, and now he's gone.
Any non-blue blood school is basically just left waiting to see which team with deep pockets will swoop in and grab their best players. And sure, there will occasionally be a generational talent that shows up (like Jeanty or Hunter) at a smaller school, but I suspect that will happen far less often as the power is consolidated at the top.
Having 1/3 of the roster turning over and having anyone with significant talent simply cherry-picked away every year makes me far less interested in the sport overall, but I guess others like the new reality.

I have no problem with players getting theirs, but there is no way NIL will level the field. Schools in the biggest conferences with the wealthiest boosters, and a willingness to spend that money will continue to dominate. And the portal makes it easier.

Re: NCAA Football 2024 season
I don't know what happened last night, how responsible for the poor performance Notre Dame was, but Indiana played awful for most of that game. There were times when they did really well on both sides of the ball, but it clearly wasn't enough to make up for all the missed tackles, poor offensive line effort, and insistence on trying to run the ball when it clearly wasn't working. It was like a different team showed up for 2/3 of the game...really disappointing.Pyperkub wrote:Roarke was awful for 57 minutes. And that personal foul against Indiana for a late hit was a bad call. The guy was still in bounds when it happened, but wound up with a first down on 3rd and long that turned into another score for ND. That one field goal wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, but still not a good call.

I like 12 teams. I mean if you win your conference you should get in. Both Indiana and SMU had some poor QB play for the first half of the games.
If you always assume the unknown entity isn’t worthy then you may as well have kept the old playoffs.

I just don't understand how Indiana only has a two hour trip from Bloomington to South Bend, but somehow didn't manage to show up until the last five minutes of the fourth quarter...

The Rose Bowl insists on playing at the same time because they want to be able to show the sunset at the start of (I think) the 4th quarter. It occasionally is a scheduling quirk that fucks with the time of other bowl games. I really want the bowl games to be completely separate from the CFP.Scuzz wrote: Sat Dec 21, 2024 12:31 am “Sunset Rose Bowl”. What does that mean? Don’t they do a 2pm kickoff?

Re: NCAA Football 2024 season
Of course Blue bloods are going to still have an advantage, but it is readily apparent that this advantage has shrunk since the advent of the unlimited transfer portal (without sitting out a year) and NiL. The talent has spread out GREATLY as a result of this. The titans of CFB used to have players sitting on the bench for 1-2 years "waiting their turn". That is diminishing greatly since players can now leave for greener pastures. If you don't think there is more parity in CFB after the season we just had - then I don't know what else to say. Ohio State probably has as much money for NiL as anyone and they lost 2 games. #Parity!Skinypupy wrote: Sat Dec 21, 2024 1:13 pm

If anyone who watched this college football season doesn't think there was MUCH more parity this year, then they weren't paying attention.

Tulane QB just signed a 2 year, $8 million deal to transfer to Duke
Also, players who attended a JUCO just got a blanket additional year of eligibility, per the NCAA.
This is all just getting very silly.

So Fresno State’s ex-quarterback Mikey Keene has signed with Michigan. I guess the Michigan coaching staff liked what they saw of him in the opening game of the season. I thought overall he had a disappointing season although Fresno had a weak running game this year.
Good luck to him. I didn’t think he would end up at that high a profile team.
