Greg Gumbel
Greg Gumbel, the sure-handed CBS sportscaster whose 50-year-plus career included hosting the NCAA men’s basketball tournament and The NFL Today and handling play-by-play for a pair of Super Bowls, has died. He was 78.

Gumbel’s death after a “courageous battle with cancer” was announced Friday in a statement from his wife, Marcy, and his daughter, Michelle.

Wow 78. Didn't know he was that old. RIP.

I cant say I knew the man at all but from seeing him on the Today show he came across as arrogant or something. Mighta been the best guy in the world for all I know. I recall him and Curic trying to figure out what the internet was lol. Thats still a popular video clip today.

All the ones in YT videos are gone too. Noticed it earlier. its the big holidays time. if something dont break when people cant get to it it wouldn't be the holidays now would it? Its tradition.

That remembrance video was nice but went way too fast. Even with me pausing I had to rewind a lot. Some I had forgotten died or didn't know had.

Early to rise.
Early to bed.
And in between I cooked and cleaned and went out of my head.

Linda Lavin passes away at 87.

She finally stowed it.

I have really fond memories of watching Alice reruns with my grandmother. Alice, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, and The jeffersons were always on rotation when I stayed over at her house. I remember absolutely loving Flo and Vera, and being somewhat afraid of Mel.

I forgot that Linda Lavin lived in my town for several years. She bought a building here and turned it into the Red Barn Studio Theater, a place for local performers to stage plays. She did a tremendous amount for the local theater scene here.

Same here with all three of those shows plus Good Times and Chico & the Man.

I LOVED Alice as a kid. Small crush on Linda. She was fantastic and when i think of Alice's Diner I think of the show Alice. Flo with kiss my grits and Mel yelling from the kitchen. Then there was Vera..she was so nervous and timid she made me nervous. And Linda there as the sane normal one raising her son. All the woman power stuff passed me by as a child. I just enjoyed the show for being a fun off beat comedy show. I think Alice fit in with two other shows I watched...Soap and Barney Miller. Strange that I watched those shows as a child but I loved them.

Hell I even watched Maude! ( Even though I was a kid , Adrienne Barbeau had 2 very pointed arguments I enjoyed :P )

Liam Payne’s manager, two hotel workers charged in One Direction singer’s death
The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office of Argentina announced in a Spanish-language statement that Judge Laura Graciela Bruniard on Friday prosecuted five people for alleged involvement in the pop singer’s death. Payne’s representative (identified as “R.L.N.”) and the manager and the head of reception of the Buenos Aires hotel where the British singer fell to his death were charged with manslaughter.

Another hotel employee and a waiter whom Payne met in a restaurant were charged with allegedly supplying the singer with narcotics.
...
The prosecutor’s office detailed an alleged incident where Payne was carried up to his third-floor room by a group of three people prior to his death. The hotel manager (identified as “G.A.M.”) and the hotel’s head of reception (“E.R.G.”), who allegedly led the group, should have kept Payne “in a safe area without sources of danger, in company and until he could be provided with medical care,” the prosecutor’s office said.

but well before those was the real winner: Julia...
