The Questionably Improved but Certainly New 2025 Weight Loss Thread
I'm starting this even though I didn't do a weight check this morning. I'll add starting data tomorrow.

I was bad over the holidays and gained back about 4 pounds but I'll lose it again in January. I'll weigh in on Monday.

Starting the year at 209.
Goal (as always) is to get down to 200, but I’m sure that I’ll end up hovering between 205 and 212 throughout the year (as always).
Getting down to 200 requires a change in either diet or exercise (or both) that I haven’t quite been willing to make yet. Maybe this’ll be the year…

11/18/24 - 326.7 (2024 secondary high point during months-long emotional eating relapse)
07/03/24 - 303.1 (2024 low point following mental health treatment and renewed spring energy)

03/26/22 - 368.9 lbs (2022 life high point)
Since lifetime maximum: -43.0
I begin the year with renewed hope and intention. I'm prepared to max out a pound or two higher as holiday feasting continues, set to conclude with a Ukrainian Christmas visit to my parents, likely next week. I think a reasonable goal to begin the year would be to lose five pounds by the end of February. It would be really great to see and maintain a sub-300 weight this year.
Wishing you guys the best on your own journeys!

Re: The Questionably Improved but Certainly New 2025 Weight Loss Thread
I face an odd challenge. Wife is taking Wegovy. She's lost 25 lbs so far and her appetite is still diminishing. Yay her! I mean it, she still has a lot of pounds to go and she's got a good shot at making it. Wish I was obese enough to get it! (half-kidding; I'm a wee bit under the obesity line, but science says these drugs have serious incidental benefits for the liver, heart, kidneys...and maybe even the brain -- the early studies are still ongoing.*)
The challenging thing is that I keep cooking like always and she isn't eating her share. When we go out to eat (twice a week) she leaves 1/3 of her plate. Now, I can't stand seeing food go to waste so I'm becoming her human garbage disposal. I need to get smarter at repurposing leftovers without snarfing them myself, because there are a lot more of them now. Maybe even scale down my recipes. What used to be 4 servings is now 5 or even 6 -- she's still ramping up the dose.
So I don't get the magic pill and now there's more food that I shouldn't eat.
*It's hard to tease out how much these beneficial side effects come from the drug itself vs. simply losing weight.

Re: The Questionably Improved but Certainly New 2025 Weight Loss Thread
No detailed recap of last year because not much happened weight wise. At one point I was down to around 180. Now I'm at 183 due to Christmas eating season. My goals are to stay under 185 aiming to get to 180 even after a Christmas bulge next year.

Re: The Questionably Improved but Certainly New 2025 Weight Loss Thread
OK, dammit, another year. I gained 3 lbs last year so I've gotta lose that, and then my goal will be the same: to get reliably below 180, and preferably around 175. I hope to lose a few pounds quickly when I start walking again in the spring; between now and then, it's just about holding the line.

Since 1/1 I've religiously been getting my 7500 steps a day in (7500 because it's the recommended sweet spot, with studies showing anything after that shows diminishing returns). I figured 7500 is a more realistic goal than 10,000, and I'm all about consistency and sustainability.
I also started back an 8-week rowing program, and of course I'm continuing to do daily dog walks which greatly help with the step count.
I'm under no illusion that the exercise is going to be the thing that gets the weight off. In fact, I consider it completely extraneous. From my experience last year, proper eating with zero exercise was enough to drop more weight than I ever had before. So the focus will be far greater on the eating side.

Oopsie! I'd expected some holiday weight gain, but not that much. The real work begins mid-month after I get back from my post-Christmas trip to visit family.

Back under 200 (barely). I think the large delta here is partially due to the times I weighed in. Trying to be a bit more consistent with that going forward.

Still up a couple pounds from the year's disastrous start, but thankfully heading in the right direction.

Holding steady. i knew things were going to be a bit of a wash as my normal routine has been disrupted with kids being out of school and a lot of errands/fast food stops. I'll take status quo over gaining heavily though. Still rowing 3x a week, 7500 daily steps, and mile walk with the dog every day.

Maintenance Weight Goal: 185
Tracking with Lose It
2024
New year new metrics. I'm going to monthly. I've been gaining weight, so I guess I'm cutting back on calories until the weight gain stops because it's definitely not muscle I'm putting on. I'm about 10 pounds up from my low, which would be OK if it was all muscle but the reality is my body is doing winter storage or something or I'm just not active enough outside of my exercise regimen, which hopefully will remedy itself when it gets warmer.
Anyhoo by going to monthly, I'm just going to look daily averages for my most common metrics and see where that takes me.
