Did he appeal the conviction? I wouldn't be surprised if he won't sit a day in jail.
This site says that he can appeal it if there are errors in the judgment. He will find some, I guarantee it.

Jack Smith is withdrawing his Jan 6 related indictment of Trump This was inevitable and saddens and angers me greatly. Trump will never be held to account for his attempt to subvert the Constitutiion.

Specifically:Special counsel Jack Smith has filed a motion to drop all four felony charges against President-elect Donald Trump in connection with his effort to overturn his 2020 presidential election in the lead-up to the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the U.S Capitol
“The Government’s position on the merits of the defendant’s prosecution has not changed. But the circumstances have," Smith’s office wrote in Monday’s filing, adding that it is seeking to dismiss the charges ahead of Trump's inauguration, in line with the Justice Department’s longstanding position that it can’t charge a sitting president.
“That prohibition is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution, which the Government stands fully behind," the special counsel added.

Right, it doesn't speak to the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the Government’s proof, or the merits of the prosecution , It just speaks to the point that 'no one is above the law' is total bullshit.

Once he pardons all the Jan 6ers, it will be like nothing ever happened. Other than the obviously stolen 2020 election.

I learned this morning that my wife was high school friends with Jack Smith's wife.
They haven't talked in many years, but I would love if this meant we could get some kind of inside look at what's going down here.

Cannon is so in the tank for Trump she doesn’t want Jack Smith to release the results of his investigation:

She’s obviously trying to run out the clock. I’ve never seen such an obviously biased judge in my life. She’s certainly paid back Trump for her appointment.

Depends how Elon feels about her. Does she want a kid and a compound to raise it in?
Also, from the article a few posts up:
Ty Cobb? How did I not know about/remember this guy?Former White House attorney Ty Cobb, who served in President-elect Trump’s first administration, sharply criticized U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon for temporarily blocking the Justice Department from releasing special counsel Jack Smith’s report on Trump’s two prosecutions.

It was either this or be fired by Trump.
I’ll never forgive Garland for not going after Trump from the beginning. We should have already had a trial by now. Instead we have 4 more years of Orange Idiot.

Re: The Trump Investigation(s) Thread
This country is so fundamentally broken right now that there was no way Garland could have done anything but create MORE orange cult members by going after Trump more aggressively. All the trials that we've seen Trump take part in have done nothing but make him MORE popular. I sincerely believe that.

The only difference is the checkmark in the book. Convictions wouldn't matter, given that he has his followers believing that they're sham trials on unjust charges brought purely as a political attack. As long as they believe that, nothing that happens in court will matter, unless a judge specifically phrases things to prevent his reelection.

Yeah it's the most fundamental failure of the Biden presidency. I will say that we are saying this with the benefit of hindsight, as aggressively going after Trump immediately had its own risks, but there's no question now that the Biden administration took the wrong approach overall.Grifman wrote: Sun Jan 12, 2025 9:49 am Jack Smith resigns:

Top takeaways from Jack Smith's final report on Trump's Jan. 6 case
- Smith remained convinced he could have convicted Trump for his alleged efforts to subvert to the 2020 election if the case had gone to trial.
- Smith drew a direct line from Trump's actions to the events of the Capitol riot.
- The report delved into the trauma experienced by law enforcement officers responding to the breach of the Capitol on Jan. 6.
- In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland attached to the report, Smith pushed back against Trump's claims the investigation was corrupt.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

President Donald Trump fired multiple independent federal watchdogs, known as inspectors general, in a Friday night purge, removing a significant layer of accountability as he asserts his control over the federal government in his second term, according to two people with knowledge of the dismissals, granted anonymity to share details they were not authorized to speak about publicly.
One of the two people briefed on the dismissals said the number is at least a dozen and includes inspectors general at the departments of State, Agriculture, Interior, Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, Education, Labor and Defense, as well as the Small Business Administration, the U.S. Energy Corp., and the Environmental Protection Agency.
Together, those agencies make up large swaths of the federal government, with control over billions of dollars in taxpayer money and broad global reach.
The inspectors general at the Department of Justice, Office of Personnel Management, the Federal Communications Commission, the Export-Import Bank and the Department of Homeland Security remain in place, according to the person.
The inspectors general were dismissed via emails from the White House Presidential Personnel Office, with no notice sent to lawmakers on Capitol Hill, who have pledged bipartisan support for the watchdogs, in advance of the firings, the person said. The emails gave no substantive explanation for the dismissals, with at least one citing “changing priorities” for the move, the person added.

Authoritarianism? Hell yeah! Collapsing economy? Kill the commie Dems!
That's what I see to be the biggest resistance to political change. Literally nothing is ever the GOP's fault, and the right leaning media keeps it that way.

Blocking all the spending from the bipartisan infrastructure act and the Inflation Reduction Act is a great start. It took a year for those programs to gain a full head of steam, but they'll collapse quickly if he really can defund them. (I thought Congress controlled spending, but I guess that was only in the olden days.) Bonus points for 2/3 of that money being spent in, and now withdrawn from, red states.GreenGoo wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 3:22 pmThe economy is so complex that he's bound to kick out a support that he had no idea would hurt his financiers.
