I wish! Man, I love those tiny cars those guys drive.

Side note: I looked up Shriners to make sure those were the guys that drove those tiny cars in parades and discovered they’re a (intentionally) silly offshoot of Freemasons who fund hospitals dedicated to medical care for children. Respect.

Many years ago (decades!) I had to inspect a Shrine circus that was visiting a town I worked in. I have never been tempted by bribes, but if they offered me one of those lil' cars I would have risked it all.

They also run their own circus. Or used to. Not sure if they still do anymore. I believe they also have their own hospitals.

Aw always loved their Puff the Magic Dragon. They always sounded the same even more recently. So does that only leave Paul? Time man...

Damn, that one hurts.

Mom and dad LOVED Peter, Paul, and Mary. Their records were played all the time at home when I was growing up.

One of my most vivid memories of my dad is him playing his guitar and singing “Puff the Magic Dragon” to make me feel better when I was sick. To this day, I have a hard time hearing that song without breaking into tears. 😢

Picture of a much younger me chatting with Peter after a PP&M concert in Portland, OR. Somehow my buddy Matt managed to get back stage passes to visit with them. Note the copy of Job:A Comedy of Justice I’m carrying, that will help to zero in the year to around 1987-88.

This one hurts - RIP Bob Uecker
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Uecker signed his first professional contract with the Milwaukee Braves in 1956 and reached the majors in 1962. He'd last six seasons in the big leagues as a backup catcher, finishing with a .200 average and 14 homers.

He won a World Series ring with St. Louis in 1964 and also played for Atlanta and Philadelphia.

"Career highlights? I had two," he often joked. "I got an intentional walk from Sandy Koufax and I got out of a rundown against the Mets."
I hope you're in the Front Row Bob!

David Lynch:
Director-writer David Lynch, who radicalized American film with with a dark, surrealistic artistic vision in films like “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive” and network television with “Twin Peaks,” has died. He was 78.

Lynch revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with emphysema after a lifetime of smoking, and would likely not be able to leave his house to direct any longer. His family announced his death in a Facebook post, writing, “There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.'”

Alice, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, and The jeffersons were always on rotation when I stayed over at her house. I remember absolutely loving Flo and Vera, and being somewhat afraid of Mel.
Same here with all three of those shows plus Good Times and Chico & the Man.

I LOVED Alice as a kid. Small crush on Linda. She was fantastic and when i think of Alice's Diner I think of the show Alice. Flo with kiss my grits and Mel yelling from the kitchen. Then there was Vera..she was so nervous and timid she made me nervous. And Linda there as the sane normal one raising her son. All the woman power stuff passed me by as a child. I just enjoyed the show for being a fun off beat comedy show. I think Alice fit in with two other shows I watched...Soap and Barney Miller. Strange that I watched those shows as a child but I loved them.

Hell I even watched Maude! ( Even though I was a kid , Adrienne Barbeau had 2 very pointed arguments I enjoyed :P )
a few years ago, i watched Martin Scorcese's _Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore_ (1973) and it was a major shock seeing the setting, characters, and even Vic Tayback from the "Alice" tv show. i looked it up and ... it's weird how a 'sitcom spinoff' of this film was ever proposed in the first place!

Also, thanks for Leslie Nielsen image, I need to laugh again. David Lynch passing has been rough. I’m getting around to watching Inland Empire for the first time.

It means nothing to many of you, but for those of us who grew up in Ohio during the 70s, 80s and 90s, the name Big Chuck was revered.

Sadly, he has died.

He was the Polish god of late night horror movie hosts for so many of us. He started out with the world famous Ernie “Ghoulardi” Anderson’s “Shock Theater” back in the 60s and eventually got his own late night horror hosting gig with Hoolihan and Big Chuck, and then Big Chuck and Li'l John after Hoolihan left.

He and his cohosts specialized in the absolute schlocky-est humor you can imagine. But he made fun of those who loved Polish jokes at his expense by making them about "certain ethnic" people.

Damn, this one is tough. John Sykes was a phenomenal guitarist. My all-time favorite song is Whitesnake's Crying in the Rain and his solo is as good as it gets.

The greatest tragedy is that Blue Murder only put out two albums. They were both fantastic and I've listed to them 100 times.

RIP, John.
