Mine is a core i5-8400 with GTX 1060. Is that good enough? I don't have any context except that my numbers are higher than yours, but 8400 is less than 10400 so probably not. In any case, I'll need a new machine before next October for the same reason. Presumably Civ 7 will be properly patched by then.stessier wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:19 am Sad - the first one that won't run on my machine (Core I5-6600 with GTX-970). Guess it's time to upgrade! (Well, next year, once Windows 10 is no longer supported.)

Your CPU is probably good enough for the minium specs.Kraken wrote: Fri Oct 04, 2024 3:00 pmMine is a core i5-8400 with GTX 1060. Is that good enough? I honestly can't picture a big 4x on that small screen, and I love my Legion Go.

I don't know anyone that has a Steam Deck so I can check it out; I wonder if they have them at GameStop?gbasden wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 8:44 pm I honestly can't picture a big 4x on that small screen, and I love my Legion Go.

Re: Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
I'm really getting excited for the release. We are within a month away and no hint of a delay.
They've revealed all but one civ/leader. The last one assuming will be later this week or next. Mexico has been the biggest surprise for me.
Don't know if you saw this week's reveal on a new feature, called Legends and Mementos. Sounds really cool. They call it a meta progression system. Reading about it, seems like a very amped up Hall of Fame feature. Once a game has ended, win or lose, it gives you experience points that is tied to the leader you played. You spend those points in this new system where each leader has like 50 levels. The experience points unlocks the levels. The rewards seem cool. I love stuff like this. It will make me want to play all the leaders.

OTOH, I hate the sound of changing your empire with every age progression. It makes a lot more sense (to me) to change your leader. i.e. early age America you play as Washington. Middle age you play as Roosevelt maybe, then late age America you play as Obama.
Map, gameplay and animation looks gorgeous.

Ooooo... hadn't heard about the meta stuff. I'm a sucker for that stuff anyway, so I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy that.
I'm wary of the empire change / era / whatever they're calling it ... too. I read their blog entry on it, so I understand their thinking. I'm a little more open to what they're trying now, but still not enthused. Hopefully it turns out ok. We'll see soon.

Re: Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
I read that Dev blog post myself and I think it's pretty interesting what they want to try and do. It reminds me a bit of Avalon Hill's History of the World board game. In the board game players play through 7 epochs, and the start of each epoch has the player choosing a different civ. Then players score for their current civ and previous civs at the end of each epoch. The board game is conquest based so it was really all about how much can you expand your current civilization at at every epoch.
It will be interesting to see how Civ VII changes that up and makes it possible for civs in later ages to get more successful without having to conquer territory. As an example, I wonder if in the modern age we'll see fewer outright land wars and more trade or cultural conflicts.
Not gonna lie, I was also one of those people who save scummed and quit Civ games if I felt like I was falling way behind the other civs. Now at least I have an incentive to stay in the game; especially if I can still be competitive in a later age even if I "lost" in an earlier age. Plus I like that bit about the Legends and Mementos where I get rewarded even if I lose.
I also like it having memories of game sessions where I reminisce and tell myself "Remember when <X> happened? That was pretty cool". Previous Civ game sessions aren't like that for me, so I'm hoping this new 3-Act structure with Age Crises will create more memorable gaming sessions.

Oh, no. Worst case scenario playing out. This game is looking ridiculously enticing.
