I don't get this take at all. TheMix is right - the answer to the question is no. For all the options you've come up with, you might as well just have a camera take a picture, flip it, and re-display it. It has as much relation to a mirror as what has been proposed and is way easier. A better question is why anyone would want this in daily life - it'll really mess with your head to see it in action.Max Peck wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:51 amYes, the discussion changed from nitpicking over his choice of words to answering his actual question.TheMix wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 11:32 am My point, that was apparently lost, is that Dae asked about "a mirror". Re: Random randomness
I guess we just need to agree to disagree with regard to what Daehawk was actually asking. I thought he wanted a way to see himself without the image being mirrored (and I suggested using the selfie camera on a phone to take a picture as one way to do it). Telling him that actual mirrors don't do what he wants to do doesn't help him do what he wants to do. The discussion progressed beyond that point, as discussions do, when it turned out that gadgets and apps do exist that do what he wanted to do.stessier wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2025 12:34 pmI don't get this take at all. As to why people want to have a reverse-mirror image, I dunno. Clearly there is a demand of some sort, otherwise the double-reflection "true image" gadgets wouldn't exist, nor would the plethora of smartphone apps.

Ive seen some amazing tech coming out of the CES 2025 videos online this year. One of the coolest was this augmented reality makeup tester. The irl..mighta been Trisha Hershberger...sat in a chair and it displayed all these different colors and styles of makeups on her like eyeshadows and such and it tracker her so she could move around in real time..didn't have to move slowly..and it stayed in place at angles and such. Was way cool.

That's... quite an equivalency. In the 1730s, 20 shillings could buy 50 acres of land in Maryland or about 3 pounds of beef in New England.
If only I could sell what's in my freezer and buy a homestead with the proceeds today.

FDA bans Red No. 3, artificial coloring used in beverages, candy and other foodsIsgrimnur wrote: Tue Oct 10, 2023 9:01 pm California becomes the first state to ban 4 food additives linked to disease
The Food and Drug Administration banned the use of red dye 3 in cosmetics in 1990 after evidence showed it caused cancer in lab animals. But the government hasn't prohibited its use in food, and it's an ingredient in candies such as Brach's candy corn and Pez.
The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it’s banning the use of Red No. 3, a synthetic dye that gives food and drinks their bright red cherry color but has been linked to cancer in animals.
The dye is still used in thousands of foods, including candy, cereals, cherries in fruit cocktails and strawberry-flavored milkshakes, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a food safety advocacy group that petitioned the agency in 2022 to end its use.
The FDA’s decision marks a victory for consumer advocacy groups and some U.S. lawmakers who have long urged the FDA to revoke the additive’s approval, citing ample evidence that its use in beverages, dietary supplements, cereals and candies may cause cancer as well as affect children’s behavior.
...
Red Dye No. 3, approved for use in foods in 1907, is made from petroleum.
The FDA's move to ban the dye has been in the works for decades. The agency first became aware that the additive was possibly carcinogenic following a study in the 1980s that found tumors in male rats who were exposed to it in high doses.
...
Red No. 3 is already banned or severely restricted in places outside the U.S., including Australia, Japan and countries in the European Union.

Move aside, BMI: There's a better way to define obesity, commission finds
The commission recommends that excess body fat should be confirmed by measuring a person's waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, or waist-to-height ratio. Another option is a direct measurement of body fat from a screening, such as a DEXA scan, when this option is available and affordable.
"We're not throwing out BMI, we are now recommending that individuals have another measurement obtained that more directly gets an estimate of body fat," Kushner says.
The bottom line: The new measures focus on the amount of fat that people carry around their waists.

The mass is a concrete-hard amalgamation of flushed items, including condoms, diapers, and—most notably—wet wipes that have all been cemented together with oils and fats that were also washed down drains. For that reason, these types of clogs are sometimes called “fatbergs.”

- Chitin: Pronounced as "KYE-tin," meaning the first syllable sounds like "kye," which rhymes with "sky," and the second syllable is pronounced like "tin," as in the metal.
- Chitinous: Pronounced as "KYE-tin-us," meaning it starts with the same "KYE" sound as in "chitin," followed by "tin," and ends with "us," as in "bus."
- Chitinoid: Pronounced as "KYE-tin-oid," again, it begins with "KYE," followed by "tin," and ends with "oid," as in "android."

It comes to English from Greek through French.
Greek has no soft "ch" (as in our "chin"), and it probably should be transliterated into a Roman alphabet as "kiton" or "kyton." For whatever reason, Latin-descended European languages liked to turn the hard "K" sound of Greek into a hard "Ch" (as in "chrome" or "chronology" or indeed "Christ"). Thus the confusion.
