Seeing that it's in CA will just make MAGA go "eh". We need them to not show up for work in places like TX and FL. I get that not working means not being able to feed your family but I imagine their collective influence would be felt by just not working for a few days.gilraen wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 12:51 pm Reports coming out that 75% of immigrant farm workers didn't show up for work yesterday in Bakersfield, CA, due to fear of ICE raids.

ICE has started targeting schools in Chicago. They were refused entry to the building, this time. I can't even begin to describe how angry this makes me.

One also shouldn't forget about the Narrative. Red MAGA states can't be the problem because they are run by god fearing (white) Christians. So the problem must be those minority coddling liberals in blue states. So why would you step up enforcement in the MAGA states?ImLawBoy wrote: Fri Jan 24, 2025 5:04 pm Because those states want their migrants for cheap labor. Re: Immigration Policy
Mexico refuses U.S. military flight deporting migrants, sources say
Mexico has refused a request from President Donald Trump's administration to allow a U.S. military aircraft deporting migrants to land in the country, a U.S. official and a Mexican official told Reuters.
U.S. military aircraft carried out two similar flights, each with about 80 migrants, to Guatemala on Friday. The government was not able to move ahead with a plan to have a C-17 transport aircraft land in Mexico, however, after the country denied permission.
A U.S. official and a Mexican official confirmed the decision, which was first reported by NBC News. The Mexican official did not provide a reason for the denial.
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Hmmm, quotas for arrests. What can go wrong I wonder?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigrat ... ump-quota/
“GET ME THE USUAL SUSPECTS!”U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have been directed by Trump officials to aggressively ramp up the number of people they arrest, from a few hundred per day to at least 1,200 to 1,500, because the president has been disappointed with the results of his mass deportation campaign so far, according to four people with knowledge of the briefings.
The quotas were outlined Saturday in a call with senior ICE officials, who were told that each of the agency’s field offices should make 75 arrests per day and managers would be held accountable for missing those targets. The four people spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose internal briefings.
The orders significantly increase the chance that officers will engage in more indiscriminate enforcement tactics or face accusations of civil rights violations as they strain to meet quotas, according to current and former ICE officials.

Re: Immigration Policy
Next up: The Trump administration vs the Catholics.
I guess any Christian group except Evangelicals (who, as we’ve learned over the last decade, aren’t actually Christians) are fair game.Bishop Mark J. Seitz, chairman of the Catholic organization's migration committee, along with leaders of other Catholic groups, wrote in a Thursday statement that “non-emergency immigration enforcement” in sensitive areas like places of worship are “contrary to the common good.”
"Turning places of care, healing, and solace into places of fear and uncertainty for those in need, while endangering the trust between pastors, providers, educators and the people they serve, will not make our communities safer," they said.
The Trump administration last week reversed guidance that immigration enforcement should not “restrain people’s access to essential services or engagement in essential activities.” The places included are often referred to as "sensitive locations."
On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” host Margaret Brennan pressed J.D. Vance on whether he supports conducting raids or other actions at church services or in schools.
Vance defended the policy. “Of course, if you have a person who is convicted of a violent crime, whether they're an illegal immigrant or a non-illegal immigrant, you have to go and get that person to protect the public safety,” he said.
Vance, who has been vocal about his Catholic faith, said he was “heartbroken” by the statement last week, but he also accused the conference of being more concerned about funding than helping immigrants in the U.S.
“I think that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops needs to actually look in the mirror a little bit and recognize that when they receive over $100 million to help resettle illegal immigrants, are they worried about humanitarian concerns? Or are they actually worried about their bottom line?" he said.

Jesus, is he actually hinting that the Bishops are using funding as a profit making business?Vance, who has been vocal about his Catholic faith, said he was “heartbroken” by the statement last week, but he also accused the conference of being more concerned about funding than helping immigrants in the U.S.

Re: Immigration Policy
I had no idea that when immigrants are convicted of violent crimes, they are then turned loose to hang out in schools and churches, rather than being incarcerated like citizens who are convicted of violent crimes. Or does Vance simply not understand what "convicted criminals" means. I suppose that when your Dear Leader is in the business of pardoning people convicted of violent crimes it might be a little confusing.

Seeing quite a few locals posting on social media how happy they are over what's happening with all the "illegals" and seeing nothing wrong with the "papers-please" tactics that are currently happening. It's one thing to truly believe this is right, but to be so comfortable as to post those thoughts publicly online and to encourage others to call an ICE hotline to report anyone suspicious?
I guess what I'm saying is that I had no idea I was living among so many collaborators. JFC it's Monday.

This should be a lesson for CPS leadership and local media to be less credulous when a report conveniently matches their pollical narrative. The agents presented USSS credentials to the principal but the principal reported to leadership that they were ICE. No one at CPS or the media bothered to verify before claiming that ICE was raiding schools, spreading a lot of unnecessary panic among an already on-edge population.

The administration has to be turning this into a TV program, right?
A convicted criminal allegedly charged with sex crimes was spooked to see Dr. Phil after he was scooped during one of President Donald Trump’s turbo-charged ICE raids.
...
“You’ve never been deported before?” Dr. Phil asked the man, before a mumbled back and forth. “You’re Dr. Phil?!” the man later said in a moment of realization. “You look like Dr. Phil.”
“Yeah?!” Dr. Phil responded, adding: “How do you know me?” The man, who said he was born in Thailand but is not a U.S. citizen, then said: “I seen you on Dr. Phil.”

Re: Immigration Policy
So, I went into the office today because I accidentally let my password expire, and the tech guys couldn't get me in over the phone.
After I got situated, I had a call scheduled with our data warehouse DBA, and it kind of woke me up. He's from Nigeria. My boss and one of my people are from Ghana. Our Data Analytics manager is from India. Any one of them or their family members could be easily swept up in the new quotas in being pulled over or just in the "wrong" place. So, as I met with other leaders about the organization, people who exceed my eleven years with the company, I started asking questions. What are we as an organization prepared to do if one of our people get arrested? We're smack dab in the middle of the largest metroplex in the state (sorry, Houston). We have 130k members, a good many of them that are at risk or have family members at risk in the new environment.
I've been spinning my wheels mentally for the last week, and trying not to mainline the misery and failing. My senators are shit, and my representative is Dinesh D'Souza's son-in-law.
But I have some good relationships at my company, including with the execs. I don't control anything, but I trust the people I work with to be good people. And if I can make sure that we can do what we can to take care of our employees and members, I will feel a little better about where I sit and what I can do.

Wife had an ankle monitoring on because she was under house arrest.
Man voted for Trump.
If she was not a citizen under house arrest in Florida, I would think that Florida is one of the last places who wouldn't just deport her instead. I'm thinking this is false.
If the man did vote for Trump, then I have sympathy for her but 0% for him. Like nothing. No empathy of any kind.
If not true then I obviously do have sympathy for him.

Doesn't marrying a citizen automatically make one a citizen?Punisher wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 2:14 am Florida mans wife grabbed in ICE raid.

Recent Supreme Court's ruling:
A U.S. citizen does not have a fundamental right to live in the United States with an alien spouse, nor a fundamental right in having his or her alien spouse granted a visa or other status.

Apparently not. A couple of years ago a friend-of-a-friend in Indiana went through the whole process of applying for and gaining citizenship despite being married to an American.

I don't remember it ever being automatic. Green card or Visa or whatever were, but citizenship still had a waiting and application period of????Max Peck wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 9:19 amApparently not. Yeah, I know nothing of the process, I just remember my friend being very excited that their friend (and child) were able to become citizens. Hopefully the Magadministration can't undo it -- the wife and child involved were Mexican, so they'd have been in ICE's crosshairs once the sweeps started.
