That was just such a big call in a big early moment. I don’t know how the NFL can let that happen.

What ref goes into this game with the idea that they should throw flags on really ticky tacky calls on big plays? On the really close/questionable ones, keep the flag in you pocket and let them play.

And now offsides on KC resulting in a first down is magically converted to a false start on the Eagles forcing our shaky kicker to make another FG from 5 yards back.

Elliott hit it from 48, but, man. The refs are looking like trash in this game.

3 sacks and 2 interceptions just in 1st half...Mahomes looks lost, and his offensive line isn't doing him any favors either.

This game is going magnificently well. Going into this week I felt that if the Bills could rush the passer, they would be playing in this game. PHI defensive line is killing it.

Somehow I doubt we'll hear apologies from all the people online who have spent weeks whining about the NFL and refs being engaged in a giant conspiracy to crown the Chiefs... :coffee:

I didn't really care who won either way, but I was at least hoping for a good game. Ugh.

Hurts hugging Mahomes while the latter congratulated him is the lesson in sportsmanship and civility this country needed.

Was rooring for the shutout late.

Hurts played well, but piled up most of the numbers after the defense clinched the game. the eagles D (someone on the DL Williams/Sweat? ) should have been mvp.

I wanted the entire DL to get MVP.

Any chance of that went out the window with that horrendous OPI call on PHI’s opening drive.

It's a petty attempt to insult a rival. It's the polar opposite of what we saw from Hurts and Mahomes. It's not about taste, or age, or even culture; it's about civility during a time where division is the norm. I would have said the same thing if a MAGA songster sang about how Trump's rivals were all pedophiles.

p.s. what's with the young people call out? you're like 64, aren't you?

and I believe this is the first super bowl I have completely ignored. It was on in the living room and I saw a bit of one play in the fourth as I passed through heading to the bathroom. I was shocked and somewhat pleased by the score. I wasn't rooting for the Eagles but I wasn't rooting for the Chiefs even more. :P

I’ve seen Mahomes do worse (go watch his excellent sportsmanship from the 2023 regular season game against BUF). And the idea that KL wasn’t going to perform the song that just won five Grammy’s last week is a bit unrealistic. KL didn’t get hired to bring us all together while we try to survive the Tangerine Menace. He got hired specifically to perform “Not Like Us”.

I am not 64, but more importantly, I work hard to not constantly complain about people on my lawn. Which makes it jarring when I see other people do it. Although maybe for me it just manifests as complaining about other people complaining about people being on their lawn? Maybe I just don’t like old people on my lawn?

Either way, it was a tongue in cheek bit of teasing about you sounding like a cranky old man unnecessarily. I meant no actual offense.

There was a lot more going on with that performance than just singing about pedophiles. I'm just an ignorant middle aged white guy, but even I picked up on the visuals and ham-fisted Samuel L Jackson commentary. There are lots of MAGA folks upset today at the performance which tells me it worked as intended.

Oh, I was just teasin' right back. Hence the age joke.

I hadn't heard the song so I was just surprised by the lyrics when I looked it up later. Not because I'm a prude (I grew up on DIY punk from the 70s/early 80s, for Christ's sake....NOTHING was sacred in those songs), but because when an entire country is watching, I would hope the musical selection would be more uplifting or politically/socially relevant. Plus, Trump was right there in the audience. He could have used that platform to say something meaningful beyond "Drake likes little girls!".

As for Mahomes' behavior in previous seasons, I was talking specifically about last night. Hopefully this is a sign that he's matured. Time will tell, though.

I mean...I hate rap, I have never heard anything by Kendrick Lamar, and to me it was the most boring SB halftime show ever. But I can recognize and respect the talent. Also, obviously I picked up on the commentary in both the lyrics and the visuals. And anything that helps anger MAGA (and make TFG leave the arena) is fine by me.

Then we can talk about last night and what he did to his own teammate, Semaje Perrine. Mahomes is an immature twat, through and through.

He went down the bench dapping up all of his teammates, when Perrine stood up, Mahomes walked right past him (and only him). Perrine dropped a pass in the 2nd quarter. Mahomes is a petty asshole.

I did not see that. If it was actually intended as an insult, that's wrong. What I did see was two opponents hugging and congratulating each other after the game. However, I often miss drama that isn't overt. That's why I get confused when someone starts talking about a person on the Real Housewives of Atlanta who disrespected someone by mispronouncing one of the vowels in their name or something.

I dismissed the half time show as well because I'm not at all familiar with Kendrick's music. But after reading the analysis after the fact, and realizing he was giving an entire sermon on race in America and not just dissing Drake, I had a lot more respect for it. Basically, if you hated the half time show, then you're probably the audience he was talking to.

I watched on my PC while playing Dragon Quest on my TV. Had the sound on low so I could tell when it was not a commercial. Was anyone else annoyed how Brady slipped in he had won 7 super bowls, but it's the losses he remembers most. Boohoo A-hole.

Back to the age problem - he very much did say more than that. That part was just for the lol's (he teased he wasn't going to sing it and then did - to the assembled crowd's great enjoyment given how they nailed the A-minor line).

If anyone wants to read more about the Kendrick Lamar performance. And he doesn't even really touch on the visuals. I totally missed some of the dancers doing mock Nazi salutes in the background (~1:56); there was so much going on it feels like people are going to be analyzing this for some time to come.

In all honesty, I tuned out for the halftime show as I'm not a fan of his particular brand of rap. So, thanks for helping to educate me on why it wasn't what I feared it was after learning about the origin of the song Not Like Us.

He also showed up to the game in an Eagles-green suit. Which I assume was not an attempt to signal his rooting interest in a Philadelphia win.

Was he also wearing white shoes? I mean, technically it's ALWAYS after Labor Day if you view the calendar as a continuation of last year. But it is something to keep in mind in case he views each year as being standalone. In which case, I'm with you; he's just a dick.

I was mostly indifferent about it. Certainly didn’t actively dislike it, but I couldn’t understand a word he was saying. Any social commentary that may have been present in the music was entirely lost in me.

I did like the imagery and the dancers though, if that counts for anything.
