I've seen a few too many people implying that simply owning a Tesla is supporting what's happening, as if every Tesla owner can afford to just get a new car on principle.

That kind of crap needs to stop.

Honestly...most of them could, considering the trade-in values for all but the earliest Tesla models. But I can see where it's not as easy as returning something to the store. So I'm willing to give them a pass.

My problem is with the kind of black-and-white virtue checks that turned MeToo (where genuine misdeeds were brought to light and addressed - a good thing) into the worst of 'cancel culture' where all imperfection is punished equally and severely.

If we want people on 'our side', we need to distinguish the genuine fascism supporters from the well-meaning imperfect. And people having to put "please don't vandalize me, I'm a good guy!" on their car because it had the wrong logo when they bought it five years ago (possibly for exactly the kind of reasons that we support) isn't helping anyone. It's just making the left look like elitist, exclusionary, perfectionist assholes.

I never considered it as a plea for no vandalism, I just thought it was a statement of: Electric cars are a great idea, but I would never buy another one from Musk.

It's happening everywhere. People are having their cars painted on, keyed, and damaged. Tesla dealers have been vandalized, shot at, and have received bomb threats.

It was happening before when they'd get coal-rolled or parked in at chargers or keyed to make statements against the liberal elite. I didn't approve of it back then either, despite hating Musk almost as much as I do now.

But it's kind of what you take on when you drive a car make that is so highly tied to the image of its asshole "founder."

Well i hate Musk but what people are planning in the name of whatever they think is right now days is plain wrong.

And people smoking out electric drivers is shitty. Lets admit that one. People try to do the right thing and help the world while the other half dont give a F and are just asshats to others that do. This country and the world in general are really screwed. I never thought as a child Id see so much blatant hate and stupidity coming from adults. i thought adults...well were actual adults....and not babies in adult clothing. I trusted in that belief.

And I held a lot of that belief still until 2016 and now beyond. Half this country is shameful and it sure aint our half.
