I'm probably going to have the 10 year olds give it a try if it's not too bad. If I'm doing my math right, that's like having a single 20 year old, so it should be no problem having a good job done. Worst case there's a kid across the street who was hinting before at his snow shoveling prowess. I can text his folks to see if I can pay him.
LawBeefaroni wrote: Tue Feb 11, 2025 5:45 pm Are you still in the city? I'm probably leaving work early tomorrow if there's snow. I only have 25 feet of sidewalk to do so happy to get a little extra exercise if you need it.
I'm way out in Portage Park, so still in the city, but not terribly close to you in crappy weather. Plus, I've got a corner lot which means excessive sidewalks plus a driveway.

We're currently predicted 4-7'' between 13:00 tomorrow and Thursday evening. I don't know how that compares to what you've got going on. I remain hopeful that it will blow north or south of here. If you are anticipating half a foot like we are with icing on top (literally), then I'd suggest that might be a bit much for 10 year olds. OtOH, maybe some neighborhood teens are a looking for some money, I hope. They used to come around here a lot but then this area changed and not so much any more.

Get thee all better quickly!

No minimum pay laws either!

And I'm a stones throw away in Jeff Park. I can't shovel snow (bad back), but if you need something else, let me know.

Quick update. My wife came home on Friday night, and we spent the long weekend largely resting. My wife's diet was already quite restricted, as she's a vegan with a gluten intolerance and several food allergies, so now we're adapting to an even more restricted diet while her digestive system heals. We'll manage, though.

My knee continues to ache, although it's not as bad as it was. Fortunately the snow events were overblown, so shoveling with the assistance of my daughter was manageable.

I'm back to working from home while my wife is on lifting restrictions, as she can't really get my oldest shifted in and out of his wheelchair or perform several of his day-to-day maintenance tasks at this point. Fortunately my work has been understanding about it.

Man, how did this fall all the way to the second page?

My son's ostomy output (i.e., his poop) got weirdly low so I took him to the hospital on Wednesday. While we were in the emergency department, he was also getting pretty phlegmy, so they did a respiratory panel. They thought he was getting a bit constipated, so they admitted him to do some irrigation of his ostomy. After we got to the room, I got a MyChart (online health app) notification of test results. I looked at them, and my son was positive for two coronaviruses. I texted my wife that he had COVID, and she started testing the other kids. I also asked to talk to a doctor, who came in shortly after saying he was just coming to see me anyway. Turns out he didn't have COVID-19, just some ordinary, run of the mill coronaviruses that are more akin to the common cold. Bullet dodged.

We came home on Friday, and on Saturday morning boy twin complained of a sore throat. He had a fever, too. Dr. Mom diagnosed him with strep throat, and this was eventually confirmed at a nearby urgent care. Started antibiotics right away and he's already back to his old self.

So for anyone who is counting, we haven't even reached the Ides of March and we've already had 3 hospital stays in the family this year!

The doctor said it was actually pretty uncommon to have two different ones at the same time, so he's got that going for him.

Ya, but now you wasted $60 in tests :P

Hopefully, you have met your quota for the next decade or longer.

Ethan hasn't been in the hospital since... check's calendar 5 years ago Today! We were in there for 18 days, and Covid was ramping up to the point here they were starting to put patients in the pediatric wing. We told them we want out, and he was doing well enough to monitor at home.
