Were you still in Michigan in the mid 80s? I'm pretty certain it (and then Evil Dead II) was a required rental then. You'd have been the prime age for the demographic. Being a bit younger than you I remember my first time going out until late and then staying up until morning to watch Evil Dead, Escape From New York and barely keeping my open to the new release of The Terminator pretty vividly all these years later.

These are all classics Ive seen many many many many times over. Army of Darkness is one of my all time favorites and I still quote its many sayings today. We used to have a sound mod for DOOM 2 back in 1994 that was all AoD quotes.

I saw Escape from New York and The Thing as a double feature at a drive in as a kid. It still sticks out as a cherished childhood memory. And it's one of the reasons I'm a huge lover of Drive In restoration projects/keeping them alive.
