Heya

There is no bank for items, however you don't delete stuff either!

You have the option to break stuff down for materials which can then be reused when adding Mods to items.

I generally get there by hitting the Loadouts key, as the option to break stuff down et al is the next one right from there...

Ya I noticed it doesn't have it's own hotkey. Annoying.

I cant figure mods out. I have tons but when I go to put them on something it has the same thing already on it or something. It will never let me add my own stuff.

Im stuck. I need to collect Hellbug crap and it is lit up and Im right on it but I cant do anything with it.

Love that Plum Crazy colored Challenger I got this morn..woot. Now I want a dune buggy and a giant truck ghhahaha.

UGH. I got in my car and alt tabbed and after a bit I hear my engine going on and off and revving and i hear bumping. I go to look and my car is slowly tumbling around the map as if it's on the moon and it has no wheels! LOL. Pretty funny.

Heya

Mods can be kinda annoying, as you cannot remove just one Mod to replace it, nor just flat out replace a Mod.
If the weapon you want to Mod is already Mod'd in that category of Mod, you have the choice between destroying all Mods attached, not just the one you want to replace, and keeping the base weapon, or removing the Mods to your inventory and destroying the weapon.

If the Mod slot is empty, then you can queue the Mod up by using resources. Except that you cannot Mod a weapon active in a loadout, even if the loadout is not the one you are currently using.
So you have to replace the weapon in the loadout, then queue up the Mod which then may take up to 10 minutes before it is completed and thus ready to be used in the loadout again.
( actually, simple Mod adds are quick, it is adding a Mod slot that takes time )

For the Hellbug stuff, you might have to shoot it up first, but usually just interact with it...

I have been trying to give this game another shake as per my earlier posts, but am having a rough go of it.

I've done a bunch of Arkfalls and overall they're pretty fun. They are similar to Rifts in Rift which is no big surprise, Trion does both games. It appears a large number of players simply follow the Arkfalls for hours on end accumulating XP, items and more importantly Keys.

Personally I'm more inclined to do quests and this is where I've hit a wall. Running quests solo I keep dying over and over and over. I'm familiar with this type of shooter and I am typically pretty good, I've played both Borderlands and Borderlands 2 and did pretty well in those games.
My problem with Defiance is two fold, first about 10 minutes after leaving the starter area my weapons stopped doing sufficient damage. I am walking around with 8 or 10 weapons and keep trying different loadouts but to no avail. It simply takes too long to kill a single mob and by then the pack is on you. Second is my shields, mob A is knocking down my shield in a single hit and after that mob B and C etc. kill me in the next hit. I am currently using a Tachyon with about 1300 health(?) and decent recharge. I have tried the Hurricane which has lower health but quicker recharge but it drops even faster and the Rhino which has more health but unbelievably slow recharge and it's no better.

Did the story quest to rescue Von Bach and that was an exercise in frustration, the first Big Blue guy with the grenade launcher killed me way too many times. Tried a quest to kill some Volge Soldiers and they killed me in about 4 seconds, currently attempting a quest to rescue an Irathient woman from some soldier types. The soldiers have shields and are mind controlling Hellbugs. By the time I can drop one soldier the Hellbugs have locked on me and it's all over from there.

Is there some aspect of the game I am missing or am I just getting unlucky with loot drops or is dying repeatedly just the nature of the game play? Was choosing Decoy a mistake, are the other powers better? How are other folks soloing the game?

I abandoned and retook that quest 4 times and it never did work. I skipped it.

Is there a hotkey to cwitch between loadouts? I have 2 and to change even in battle I have to hit L then click the loadout button then exit and get back to fighting.

Kinda wish my vehicle stayed around just a bit longer when I on not on/in it. Just a little bit. I dislike getting off to talk to a npc or drop the quest off in a box only to have to resummon my ride for that quick a stop.

So is there a hotkey to switch loadouts quickly?

Heya

I completed the main storyline solo, but I will admit that having other folks running through some of the missions themselves "solo" at the same time definitely made those ones easier :)

I lucked out in equipment early on, though I didn't realise it for the longest time.
I kept expecting to find a better weapon than the one subby I've been using since my level was lowly double digits in EGO, only I never did.
Added a buncha Mods to it and it has kept me mostly alive for some time.

I have noted folks in game who can kill things faster than me, so there must be some weapons better, but danged if I have found them.

Conversely, single shot weapons like the Flare Gun can be modded with a +12 Magazine to make for a handy, pistol sized, high chance of igniting enemies, grenade launcher... *cough*
( how damaging is that puppy... it damn near kills me with one shot and I'm nearing quad EGO digits now... of course, getting it to hit stuff other than myself is another story... )

The more you use weapons, the better that particular weapon becomes, up to a point.
So switching back and forth while trying things out is good, but finding something reasonable and settling in with it may work out better.

Also, check for which weapons offer pursuits. Finishing those will level you up faster and it is worth noting that there are more pursuits for bolt action sniper rifles than semi-auto ones :)

I went with a manual load pump action style shotgun initially, found it did quite a bit of damage though hated having to move around while reloading.
Eventually I settled on the rip gun I have been using since, but I was a long time giving up the shotty...

I have been using Respark shields, on the premise that shields drop quickly, so the sooner they get back up the happier I will be.
Thus I use something that is at the bottom end of the numbers range in as far as Shield points go, but that has a sub 3 second recharge timer.
So I can pop into cover, or high tail it off away from melee folks, while the 3 seconds is counting, before returning to fight again.
Nothing I have seen thus far makes me think that a 9 second recharge timer is worth the extra 50% of shield strength...

No Hotkeys for Loadouts... I wish also...

All enemies have weak spots you can critical them on, and it is worth finding out what those are and hitting them often.
Mutant E-Rep soldiers typically require head shots. Generally, hitting them there will stagger them slightly, depending on the weapon used / damage done.
That includes the big blue guys, who show up with minguns, grenade launchers and more.
Tactics goes a long way, but finding out which ones work best against which enemies is the usual try things and die lots approach :)
( against grenade launchers, I sometimes find that running in circles around them is best )

Decoy can be useful as a Medic, or for getting someplace faster when you swap places with it after finishing up in your current location.

I went with Cloaking, which has its own issues, but has the ability to instantly recharge your shield when activated, as well as giving you time to recover your shield while it is running.
Just try to stay out of the lines of fire while it is bringing your cloak up...
( the ability to sneak past turret emplacements and take out their power sources has been very useful )

I keep forgetting to use the other actives, such as the bonus damage one...

Real shame on the loadout hotkey. dangit. I now have 3 so its even worse.

I seem to like the super fast firing Pulser guns.

I really need to read up on modding. I've not been able to mod a single weapons. I can look at a wep and see 4 mod slots. It may have a stock in one. Ill have a backpack full of barrels and clips and such and Ill open that menu, click the item to mod, load that wep then see the button to add mods...I click it and there is nothing in the next window...nothing at all..no text or anything...no mods show up.Im stuck with the single mod a wespon comes with. I know I must be doing it all wrong and will need to read up on mods sometime soon.

I also dont find great weps. The purple ones seem no better than a green one and most times the green will do more damage. But they all seem to stay in the same damage ballpark of 1000-1200 for snipers and 150 for light machine guns. I just did the mission to help Nolan and Irisa get a gem. Im pretty well into it I think. Still not made it anywhere near the Golden Gate Bridge yet but I do ALL side missions I can find then so the plot and story ones.

I just feel like Im missing something big here.

Ok after watching a video on modding I was doing 2 things wrong.

1. I thought the slots I was seeing were all open mod slots. like one would have a stock in it. But thats not right...that one would mean I could addd a stock..it had a stock slot...the rest are not open slots.

2. I was trying to mod equipped weapons. Thats why I was getting the blank screen. Kinda silly to only work on unequipped items but thats the way it works I guess. Now maybe I can mod stuff.

Heya

Yep. That last point was buried in my wall'o'text.

Note that you can use resources collected from scrapping stuff on that screen to create Mod slots on your existing weapons.
Again, same caveat in that the weapon you are modding cannot be in any of your loadouts.

I've hung onto that Deadbolt sniper rifle I was given waaay back at the beginner area because it still has the highest damage Ive seen. I can now add slots to it. Too bad they are random in nature but better than nothing I suppose. I just looked and have around 50,000 of the green resource money so should be good.

Also Im using the same shield and grenade on all 3 of my builds. I am spreading out the weapons so as to raise the skill in them all. Shotgun and pistol suck right now. I want to mod that assault rifle Nolan gave me but I kinda want to wait till I get to a higher area and better mods...but maybe I should go ahead and just delete them later and keep the gun.

In regards to weapons and loot in general, from reading around the internet, it appears Trion is going for a new concept with Defiance.

Word is you are NOT going to find incrementally better loot as you increase your level. First off their aren't any hard levels in the game, it's based on your EGO score which determines how many passive skills you have and the level of equipment you can use. However it seems higher EGO weapons will not have higher damage values as one would expect. Damage stays rather flat from ego level 1 through EGO level 200+. You increase the quality/damage what have you of your weapons by using better and better mods, which apparently do scale, leveling your individual weapon skills and ulitmately leveling the weapon, resetting it and then leveling it again ad infinitum.

On the flip side the giant blue chain-gunner you fought at EGO level 10 is the same giant blue chain-gunner when you come across one at EGO 200+. Monsters apparently do not scale in HP or Damage as you move through the game world.

This is an interesting concept, sort of the anti-loot grind, and may be good or bad ultimately. My problem is finding new and better and shinier loot is a huge part of MMO's for me. I don't particularly enjoy grinding for hours on the same mobs trying to get a single drop but I do like finding new items that are obviously better than my old and switching out my equipment. It may just be smoke and mirrors but I find it rewarding and it gives me a sense of progression.

I know there are folks here who have been playing the game for quite a while now and I would be interested in hearing if they consider this an accurate assessment or does the interwebs have it all wrong?

Funny you mention it being the same lvl mob as later on. I went back the the starting area for something and decided to be a big badass and clear out a spawn while there to see how cool my new stuff was. I died. Yep I was still doing the same damage to them as before. Color me surprised.

Only thing I will add about weapons and upgrading is synergy sets. Higher tier weapons might come with a bonus to particular synergy set which will pump the DPS up.

I was using until recently a AR with great fire bonus when I initially started playing but recently replaced with a AR that has a higher based dmg and bonus for a particular synergy set

I parked my Plum Crazy purple Challenger beside someone else's orange one while I alt tabbed. When I returned I found this in the pic below. A few minutes later there were buggies and quads all lining up too blowing their horns and stuff. Wild.

This is why I don't buy half baked MMOs (all of them?) anymore. They all seem end up free to play anyway.

There wasn't a monthly fee - it is (was) like Guild Wars where you pay to own the base game and expansions. Starting this summer, you don't even need to do that.

Arise! The game as well as the thread...

A dead MMO that launched with a now-cancelled TV show in 2013 is coming back 4 years after servers were shut down
Fawkes, "an indie studio and publisher dedicated to reviving treasured titles", has decided that Defiance fits its brief, and has set itself the task of bringing the game back to life. It acquired the rights to both the original 2013 version of the game and the relaunched Defiance 2050 version that appeared in 2018.

"After many heartfelt discussions on forums like r/Defiance and watching enthusiastic video reviews as this one on YouTube together with the comments," Fawkes says, "we realized that the spirit of Defiance still burns bright."

Defiance will make its comeback in April, with Fawkes launching the original 2013 version of the MMO. Its plan is to work with the community, starting small, with a PC launch, and then growing based on feedback. The return of the console version might be on the cards, too, but that ultimately depends on its reception on PC.
