Happy Pi Day!

Post by Isgrimnur »

Although, for precision, it starts at 03:49. But I can’t stay up that late.

Wouldn't the precise time be at 3:14+?

I went with decimal conversion rather that straight mapping. Although in that case, I suppose Pi day should be on January 4th. :shrug:

In the lab where I used to work we celebrated at 1:59 PM (which was designated as Pie O'Clock).

I break down and get $3.14 pepperoni pizza from the Speedway Cafe today. It's become an annual tradition. They're somewhere between a bit better than Little Caesar's and not quite as good as any of the zillion traditional carry out pizza places around here. At 2500 calories, it's a very rare treat. If I were more active, I'd get 2 and reheat one for tomorrow but I can't even budget eating a full one today at my present activity level.

A great day for dinner. My wife is planning a spinach and sausage pie with an apple and mixed berry pie for desert.

3 = March
14 = 14 (duh)
1:59 = the next 3 digits in pi
PM = because we wanted to celebrate during the work day :lol:

Sure, it's arbitrary and merely symbolic rather than some sort of mathematical forumla, but if you're going to get a few dozen people together to have a little pie-eating party, you have to pick a time to do it and this was the time we went with.

Did you have a wedding pie instead of a wedding cake?

(Congrats!)

Due to my wife not feeling well and today being a Friday we had already decided to go out to dinner next Wednesday. But I think my daughter is whipping up some desert for us tonight with our grilled swordfish.

On the subject of cakes, there is a place near us called "Nothing Bundt Cakes". They are amazing.

I did not bring it up this year. Last year, I told my daughter it was Pi day, we should have some pie. She was in first grade, and replied, "It's not THAT kind of pie, daddy!"

I'm not sure I knew what Pi was until high school.

I've not been impressed by them, tried multiple times in support of various fundraisers that use them.

The bundt cakes at Corner Bakery are my wife's favorite though. When I was a kid, I would make full size ones all of the time, cinnamon being my favorite. Maybe I need to get me a bundt cake pan.

It would have to be a sweet potato pie, then...I can't think of any others that use roots, square or otherwise.
