Well, good thing you’re not a HOF voter!

Word on the street is that the vote was not close either.

I think he'll get in - I think this is just a reflection that a lot of voters don't see him as a first ballot hall of fame player.
He might, but I think if he does it will be a longer wait than people think. Even with the 5 year delay, people still get wrapped up in recency bias. The hallmark of a HOF QB is that they were considered one of the best QBs in the league when they played. Eli was never that, not even close.

Leaping at the opportunity to make their intentions clear, numerous NFL front offices expressed interest this week in quarterback Aaron Rodgers playing elsewhere, sources confirmed Tuesday. “Aaron Rodgers feels like he could be a great fit for the culture of other places,” said an anonymous NFC general manager among the flurry of teams across the NFL frantically stating their commitment to keeping Rodgers off their roster.

Juice saw the steelers and said... NAH, I'm going back to the niners. I didn't understand why they cut him anyways it wasn't like his contract was breaking the bank.
Big fan of the Bears' offseason. They've been shoring up the offensive line with 3 new, established players (plus a couple on the D line). I saw speculation that they would pick Jeanty in the draft to give them an elite (hopefully) RB. There won't be an excuse for Williams to not succeed.
At one point, it was believed that Rodgers was looking for $90 million over two years to sign with the Steelers. Now, that price seems to be different. According to The Athletic, Rodgers is viewing the Vikings are his top option, and in a deal, he's hoping to land something similar to former Minnesota quarterback Sam Darnold.
...
Darnold signed a three-year, $100 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks at the begining of free agency, choosing not to return to the Vikings.
Do you mean signing with Seattle instead of staying with Minnesota? I think Minnesota wanted to go with JJ McCarthy both because he has a higher ceiling and because he's a lot cheaper since he's still on his rookie contract.

Yeah, there was a lot of buzz out of training camp last year that JJ McCarthy would start day 1 - most of it probably the usual suspects who just love hyping drafted qbs - but, I truly think that his injury was a massive benefit to his development rather than being thrown into the fire.

The Patriots signed Stefon Diggs. Is he still good? The Patriots' receiver corps is rather lackluster and they haven't had a great receiver in awhile, so even if he's just decent he'd probably be a significant upgrade.

He was still playing well before he tore his ACL last year.

That's true. He was essentially playing WR2 behind Nico Collins. He made several clutch plays, and the Texans would have been happy to have him back. He made it clear that he wanted a bigger commitment than the Texans were willing to make.
It's an NFL golden age when the Steelers, Patriots, Raiders, Cowboys and 49ers all suck. The Pats, Raiders and 49ers have all dashed the Chargers' hopes at one time or another. (Apologies to Neadnek and Guapo).

Yeah, but mostly it's the Chargers who have dashed the Chargers hopes

The 49ers and Steelers don't suck. They're just not any better than slightly good. Also, the golden age of the NFL would have the Chargers in San Diego where they belong.

Niners sure look like they are going to suck after gutting their defense and letting everyone walk.
And if the steelers sign Rodgers (not done yet, afaik) their suck floor might be even lowrr than the Niners - they've been doing it with smoke and mirrors the last couple of years.

Rodgers and Wilson had similarly okay years in 2024. Personally, I think Rodgers is a slight improvement over Wilson and a solid improvement over Fields.

Wilson et al got to the playoffs. Rodgers left a flaming hole in the ground where an up and coming team who just needed good qb play used to be - Rodgers stats were mostly garbage stats which had nothing to do with winning games. Wilson didn't do great, but his play lifted his team when he could. Rodgers play never lifted his team (and hasn't going back to his last year with the Pack).

Oddly enough, the team that had Rodgers in 2024 concluded that kicking the tires on Justin Fields was their preferred option.

Correctly, I think. Rodgers has little upside, he's not going to be Tom Brady winning superbowls in his 40's. Fields has just enough talent that at some point, he'll explode with a one-off season that gets him paid but he never replicates again.

The jets were a mess before Rodgers threw a pass in 2024. They'll be a mess again next year. Rodgers was part of that but he isn't the root cause.

The Jets had back to back 7-10 seasons w/o a QB before Rodgers and pretty much only needed a decent QB to make the playoffs. **with** Rodgers, they actually got worse, and he got their HC and GM fired before leaving. Now they are starting over again. They weren't a mess, they were close.
NOW they are a mess.
