I remember watching him in The Bourne Identity miniseries, alongside Jaclyn Smith!

Val Kilmer passes at 65.
I just watched “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” the other night. Criminally underrated film that he was brilliant in.

I'm surprised he hung on for as long as he did given the state he was in in the Top Gun sequel.

It was pneumonia.
From what I remember he was a Christian Science follower and they shun medicine in favor of prayer. I think he finally broke away from that strict discipline when he had cancer.

If anyone hasn't watched Val, the movie he participated in about his own life and career, it's pretty interesting and worth the time. He carried a video camera with him for most of his career, even very early on, and accumulated a lot of footage at a time when it was actually pretty unusual to record yourself. It's an unique glimpse into the life of a talented actor and interesting person.

He was a very talented actor. He usually elevated the project he was in and portrayed some iconic characters.
I still have a soft spot for Top Secret! One of my favorite comedy movies that I can rewatch any time.

I did, it was well done, and you definitely come away with a better understanding of his life and time. Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
I was a big fan. I never met him, but he was in town filming a movie here many many years ago and one of my bartender buddies talked to him at length. He had a bit of a reputation at the time for being difficult to work with, but my buddy said he was a cool dude.
Tombstone is still my favorite western, Willow is one of my favorite fantasy films, and The Doors is probably my favorite musical biopic. That right there makes him a legend in my mind.

Top Secret is a favorite. I saw in the theaters when it first released, and own it on DVD (wherever my DVDs are...)

Re: R.I.P. The thread of death....celebrity or otherwise
Top Secret is one of my favorite movies. I will never forget when I was in college going to see Footloose in a sold-out theater. The trailer for Top Secret started and within 10 seconds I was laughing so f'n hard I couldn't breathe. It was just rapid fire visual gags with Tutti Frutti blaring through the speakers. The whole theater was buzzing through the first 5 minutes of Footloose trying to recover. My friends and I went back the next night just to see that trailer again.
