Building/upgrading a system for my buddy who plans on buying these two games. Wondering if there is a prefered driver for this card, though I've been trying to convince him to upgrade.

Well I installed my copy of Battle for Middle earth. Using the latest Omega drivers, the game booted up fine but when it got to the over head map, it lagged out and went frame by frame with like 8 seconds between frames. I tried the latest drivers from Nvidia, and it just rebooted the system after selecting one of the menu options in game.
I found some random post suggesting the 44.03 drivers for the TI4200. With those drivers, game runs like a champ. I'm actually suprised how well this XP2100, 512MB system with a 4x AGP 64 MB Leadtek GForce Ti4200 card is working out.
Hopefully he'll be able to play HL2.

I play HL2 on a Ti4200 64MB. It runs well at 8*6 with medium settings. I havent tried higher settings because I suffered from the stutter but that now seems to be more of a HD issue for me since my new drive has no stutter. I just havent set my setting higher since then.
I run at 8*6 out of habit since on my 17" everything starts getting tiny at a higher res (at least to me). I would expect it to run fine at 1024 but havent tried. As long as your not expecting to max out all the settings at a high res it will run fine. I'm happy with how it looks, but I still play atari on emulators so who am I to say anything (H.E.R.O.!!!)
FYI..I run the same RAM size of 512MB. Processor is a Barton +2500.

I'm currently running HL2 at 1024 X 768 on medium setting very smoothly on a FX5500, which is actually a slower card than my old ti4200.
On my ti4200 machine, the 44.03 drivers worked for just about everything, EXCEPT FarCry, which required an update to 53.04 for the game to even run. That game ran nice though at 1024 X 768.
The ti4200 has been proven to have some VERY long legs. Love that card!
