I want all my games converted to Source
Half-Life 2 is undoubtedly the best looking game I've played and one of the most beautiful. I love the Source engine so much I want to replay HL2 just to see all the pretty spots again. Better yet, why can't development teams convert entire games to the Source engine? You know, sort of like a cover band plays another band's music and adds their own touch to it.
Games I dream about in Source:
Every FPS i've enjoyed in the past 3 years
World of Warcraft
Doom 3

Yeah...I guess I worded that poorly.Kaigen wrote:I'm pretty sure that Havok isn't directly tied to Source.Smoove_B wrote:Well...Age of Empires 3 is going to use the Source Havok (Physics) engine...which should be pretty interesting, no?
The physics engine (Havok) that made HL2 more gooder will be utilized in Age of Empires 3.

Source would be even better if they fixed the audio stuttering and crashing. I still get an occasional sound stutter loop in HL2 and then a clean crash to desktop about every hour or so, sometimes less. I hope they eventually solve those problems. Luckily, in my case it's only an annoyance. HL2 is fantastic otherwise.

Vampire had slight issues with sound stuttering. Troika problem was that they wanted to release the game as soon as HL2 came out and didn't wait for the updated version of the Source engine that HL2 uses.\/\/olverine wrote:That's more of a HL2 problem rather than the game engine though, isn't it? Or does Vampires have the same issue?

But it was also used quite poorly in Deus Ex: Invisible War. My understanding is Havok licenses the physics engine but each developer has to "tune" it to make it work for their game. I'm guessing Valve spent months of hot butter lovin' with Havok to make it sing like a canary.Smoove_B wrote:The physics engine (Havok) that made HL2 more gooder will be utilized in Age of Empires 3.

They can also really screw over a game if done poorly. Re: Trespasser. Simple things are all that's really needed, in my estimation, like in Jedi Outcast. If you happen to jump on someone, they fall over. That's pretty cool. I always hum the Mario theme when that happens.\/\/olverine wrote:I'm more interested in the pretty graphics than the physics, although the physics of the objects can definately add to the graphical beauty during a gun battle.
