Games you never want anyone to mention ever again?

Post by Hereafter »

I'm talking about games that are evil, addictive and destroys your marriage.

I just finished reading the a Morrowind thread over @ PC Game by Title and had to stop halfway. I knew that if I didn't I'm gonna drop whatever I was doing and install the bugger again. Of course knowing me I'll just "stumble" upon the thread again...

Here's my list:

1) Civ and SMAC
2) Heroes of Might and Magic 3
3) Morrowind
4) Fallout
5) Baldur's Gate

Anyone else out there have a weakness towards a game that even the slightest conversation about it will make you reinstall the game (or worse, re-buy it)? :D

Tropico and/or Tropico 2, Caesar 3, Civ 2, Settlers 3 and Lords of the Realm 2.

My all-time addiction, Out Of The Park Baseball, I have been playing faithfully over the last three versions since 2002.

I've put many, many hours into the Total War series as well.

Morrowind is shaping up the same way as well after about a week of good playing time (though only a few days with my current character), especially with all the plug-in capabilities. I spent most of six hours just exploring Balmora last night with all the new stuff added in and running just one or two quests.

Stop talking about Morrowind dang it. Have you no mercy?

Did you spend a few hours creating a tweaking your character and trying new ones over and over again? I think it took over 10 hours for me to leave the first city.

oh no! will weaking...

LOL. Sorry. I've got Morrowind installed, with both expansion packs. The DVD created by Blackhawk sits on my desk, awaiting installation.

I didn't spend too much time on character creation since I knew the game was free form enough to allow me to do a lot of different things. And no matter what I try to create, I always end up with a thief-like character.

I beat Morrowind last year -- took me three months of daily play -- all of it a pleasure. I'm not sure I'm ready to dive back in, but I'll be dammed it it doesn't look good again. :)

My addiction to out of the park baseball is horrible. Had finally shaken it, picked it back up two weeks ago and have already gone through seven seasons...... Ahhhhh

i just completed my latest run through Torment last week. it's still a great game even when i've done it all before...one of the finest RPGs in my collection 8)

as for my vice, it's UT2K4...i can play that game for hours on end and it never gets old. all it takes is one mention of a group meeting on zaxxon's server and i can't resist jumping in for a few rounds.

Ditto that. 2005 just came in and I'm already salivating over the thought of the as-yet-unannounced-but-inevitable UT2006.

Morrowind scares me.

I played it like an addict right after Bloodmoon was released, just running around exploring.

Then another game managed to pull me away from it, but it still sits there installed and beckoning........

Of course Kelric's thread isn't helping at all.

Maybe Warlords 3: DLR. But I haven't played that recently.

Or Dominions 2. I've had at least one game going at all times since I bought it.

I think I played Pocket Tanks for about a week straight when I first discovered the free version. One of my friends did the same thing when I got him playing it. Unfortunately, he was too lazy to download it himself so he'd just come over my house and play.

Civ3, Morrowind, SWAT 3 and Neverwinter Nights. All reinstalled recently because of threads I saw here about them or mentioning them.

In no particular order:

Diablo 2
Morrowind
SMAC
Startopia
Operation Flashpoint
Falcon 4.0
Longbow 2
EU2
Thief 1-3
Championship Manager series

Some of those games have never actually left my harddrive (Falcon 4, EU2, OFP, Thief 1-2 and SMAC)

On consoles the Madden and ESPN NFL series have been an endless addiction for a number of years too.

The original Settlers on the amiga got me big time, i also managed to infect my 2 brother in laws and my brother as well, i remember playing it non stop for ages. Drove the wife(then girlfriend) crazy. Hopefully 5 will good, i so want to play the 1st again.

Morrowind, BG 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2, Planescape get re installed all the time.Uneal Tournament (played non stop for 2 years) and i`m thinking of putting it on again, and finally the civ series is always installed and i`m also tempted to try it just one more time.

I can always tell when i`m in trouble with these games as the wife groans and sasy you arent playing that AGAIN, it takes hours to play :O)

How can one forget?

Post by Jeff Fiske »

MOM / MOO depending on your favorite color.

Of course, if you walk past someone playing X-Com, can you really make your saving throw? It helps that it does not install easily.

Civ II/ III or SMAC depending on your taste.

Fallout I/II ...must not play again....

Counterstrike/UT 2004 depending on if you care about your teammates.

Rogue/Nethack derivatives... Okay, maybe this is not such a bad thing, since they keep changing all the time- but going back to the same one over and over, well, it's sad. I must keep ZAngband off the machine.

For me:

SACRIFICE: I think it's one of the most underrated RTS games ever. I've reinstalled and played it several times.. Never finished it though. And that means--will have to reinstall it again sometime.

DUNGEON KEEPER: To this day, I'm still tempted to reinstall and whip my imps into shape and make 'em build me a nice, nasty dungeon.

TOTAL ANNIHILATION: God only knows how many times I reinstalled it. How many skirmishes I played online. One of the best RTS games ever.

WARCRAFT III: I got into this big time for over a year and a half.. I still feel the urge to install it and play online.

NEVERWINTER NIGHTS: I keep reinstalling it.. play a bit of it.. I forget about it.. start thinking about how it's supposed to have this great dungeon mastering tool.. and then I reinstall it again. I'll probably never make a complete module for it... but damn, the temptation.

ANARCHY ONLINE: I played it for close to two years... Never got a character past level 50.. and I still think about it.. and get tempted to reinstall it and reopen my subscription.. but gamers have moved on to better pastures, haven't they?
