The Wars between the Elves of the Northern Woods and the Orc Tribes of the Eastern Plains has enveloped the Barons of the Eastern Marches with Skirmishes and Sieges.
The Human lands are Baron ruled Warlord Factions with Guile and Espionage rampant.
The Dwarven Mountains of the West maintain an uneasy peace with the Barons and guard their border steadfast against the North.
Halfings are nomadic tribes traveling in caravans.

If no one objects, I will take the Handy Haversack so that I can have healing items quick to hand.
Icebear, if I read it correctly, we each get to choose from an amulet of natural armor +2, a flaming +1 weapon, and +2 armor. It is only the last 4 items (bag of holding, boots, haversack and ring of jumping) that is one per party. I just realized that each characters gets to choose one of the first items, not that we get one of each. sigh. It seemed too good to be true.
My items are listed on my character sheet linked above. Any suggestion about my equipment loadout would be appreciated.
CR: where are we starting out? Or what kind of climate are we in? Would my character have acquired anything special for his current situation?

You get a choice of the weapon, armor or amulet for each character. Not all 3.Arnir wrote:Icebear, if I read it correctly, we each get an amulet of natural armor +2, a flaming +1 weapon, and +2 armor. shoo, you naughty lil halforc... you're in an alternate universe.
As for where you begin, if your character has no backstory then I can make something up. The concern is over climate preparedness?
Assume your employer will handle climatespecific requirements.

I'm just trying to get into the spirit of the thing. Is there anything that I would (or we would) clearly have if we knew where we were? Did that make sense? I haven't played pnp D&D in years, so I'm a born again newbie.Chaosraven wrote:

Would you like us to use different font colors for IC voices as the other group is doing?
I think my character is good to go, if I don't need to make a mule sheet.
How many experience points do we have? 1001 for just making lvl 2? 2000 for being halfway between 1 and 2?
Anyone have any advice/suggestions/compliments/criticisms of my character? I'm thinking that my cleric will have to be the second fighter so I'm armoring him up fairly well. Is this a mistake?
Okay, my IC text will be in this color.

If the group desires to play "In Character" the fonts are a good idea.
Not all players desire to speak as their character, so it's not required.
Experience for a 2nd Level character should begin as 1000.

The lands of Baron William Woofenden act as a sort of crossroads, being nearly in the middle of the Human Realm.
As such, the Town around his Castle has expanded into a tent perimeter that ebbs and flows as the travelers come and go.
Mercenary troops head north and east for coin and glory... some head west for easier duty.
Trade caravans and merchant wagons replenish their stock and head out once more. Suppliers have established internal stores (for a fee) within the Castle proper.
Castle Woofenden has become the Central Trading Post.

I've also chosen to take the armor + 2. Banded mail, in my case.
And I've also chosen the party's Handy Haversack. (HH)
So, folks, when are we going to be ready to go?

Midnight, an average looking man in his early twenties, wanders into the local inn. He quietly uses his Prestidigitation spell in order to make himself look even more unassuming and to deepen the shadows about his chair, and, of course, to make the cheap swill they serve as ale here taste like a pint of his favorite - Red Kobold Lager. He then sits back and listens to the gossip about him.

Arthur enters the bar and sees his old comrade Midnight sitting at a table. Nodding to Midnight, the cleric takes a seat at the table, keeping his back to the wall as much as possible. Arthur looks a bit tired, (a perpetual look for the servant of Pelor) but appears friendly enough to onlookers.

Midnight passes a cup of swill, after being magiked to taste good of course, to Arthur.
"Greetings friend priest! I doubt you'll find any of Pelor's guiding light in this rat's nest", Midnight says with a small smirk. He hasn't seen the gods do much for the common folk so teasing the clergy is a favorite passtime.
"I don't know if Pelor has seen fit to rain shiny gold coins down upon you, but my purse is nearly empty - why else would I be in this pit. I think, however, if you wanted to go east and bring the light of Pelor to the heathens there, we probably could get paid - sounds like some of the caravans heading that way are in need of guards."

Arthur (the half-elf) smiles at the taller man. Pelor's guiding light is everywhere, one simply needs to open their eyes. To something other than a bauble to steal, that is. Or some spell to help you steal the bauble.IceBear wrote:Midnight passes a cup of swill, after being magiked to taste good of course, to Arthur.

Midnight approaches the halfling in the corner.
"Greetings my fine gentleman. My name is Midnight - obviously not my real name, but those are so boring. I could not help but notice that you have the look of someone looking to hire bodyguards. I am a scout of some skill and have worked for the noble halfling merchants in the past. Perhaps myself and our comrades would satisfy whatever requirements you may have - not like this unsavory lot there <nodding at the drinking warriors> - No offence intended".

Arthur follows Midnight in a very friendly but confident manner. He positions himself so that he can watch both Midnight and the halfling, as well as not letting anyone sneak up on the party unobserved. Arthur will watch, using his sense motive skill (12+3=15 skill roll) to determine if the halfling is being honest. If necessary, Arthur will also help with the discussions and negotiations. (Diplomacy skill roll of 12+7=19) (Should I be giving these rolls, CR?) Arthur will let Midnight take the lead and present a unified front - unless something violates his Neutral Good religious views. If this happens, Arthur will try to ignore any minimal issue and leave the meeting if necessary to avoid problems. He will take it up with Midnight later, if necessary. (CR: is this level of detail good or bad?)IceBear wrote:Midnight approaches the halfling in the corner.

History roll: no significant information
Sense motive: Halfling is holding back information
Diplomacy rolls: Halfling appears interested in hiring party.
Well now, if you have already traveled with my brothers, then mayhap you are able to help me and mine. My sister and I require an escort to the Eastern edge of Baron Woofendens border with Baron Highmont and on to his Northern Hold.
