Just because we use cheats.... (CONTRA!)
I was just out with a co-worker picking up lunch when she stopped to ask these two guys for a light. They were talking about "that code."
"Probably every guy raised in the 80s knows that code for Contra."
As we walked away, I told Sara "up-up-down-down-left-right-left-right-b-a-start."
She had no idea what I was talking about. She's one of the people who convinced me to get a PS2, and she has no clue!
It made me sad, but it also made me wonder: who doesn't know that code?

I don't use cheats when playing games unless I am to the point of quitting a game without one. One the rare occassion that I actually do use a cheat to get by, the rest of the game just doesn't feel the same.
I will occasionaly use a walkthrough to help me if I'm stumped on a quest or where to go and such, but tough areas like 'The Race' in Mafia I try my best to just plow through after repeated attempts. (I made it through the race successfuly

Computers are quite different from the wonders of the NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM! The whole point of the NES was ENTERTAINMENT! Can you say that about your precious Spectrum?moss_icon wrote:some band has called themselves this. doofs.
i never knew the code because i had a real computer in the 80's (zx spectrum). POKE me.
Do you still have that Spectrum? It seems people are really getting into them these days (according to Retro Gamer Magazine).

I used the code for a few days, it helps you learn the game when you do not have to restart every 3 livesRalph-Wiggum wrote:Contra was impossible to beat without that code.
After a day or so, I as able to play the game normally without the cheat and complete it. Once I did it on 1 life
What is sad is that when I go back to play old games like that today, I just get absolutely stomped
It shows you how games of yesteryear and games of today require completely different skills to be good at
