Of course they are afraid of their players. If the players unified under a cause they could ruin the NFL. They are already planning for a strike/lockout in 2021.
This is not much different than any industry with a strong union, though in this case, the owners are afraid of the NFLPA turning into a strong union.

It's not what he meant, but I'm sure that's what he was told. 8 of the owners donated over a million dollars to his campaign. They absolutely told him to shut his mouth.

Lol.
Nox, are you suggesting Drumpf was talking about fear of the players unified economic power?
Because that would be hilarious if that's what you think he felt the need to comment on.
Edit:. So it's not what he meant? I'm confused.

If I read Nox correctly he is saying that the owners told Trump they are afraid of them unifying economically. Trump then took it to mean a general fear - or simply chose to portray it that way because that serves his (Trump's) current narrative.

Trump went on a tweet-rant this morning from the cozy confines of his golf club, attacking the mayor of San Juan and claiming that workers in Puerto Rico are lazy and what “everything done for them”.
The blatant racism of this asshole never ceases to astound.

And he's still going. Now it's the news networks that are lying about Puerto Rico, because the response has been great. His only concern is that people are lying to make him and the first responders look bad. He's literally saying that everyone in Puerto Rico, including the local government, is lying about how the recovery effort is going because they're too lazy to do the work themselves and want it for free, and to make him look bad. This man is a walking bag of sewage.
He's also referred to himself in the third person twice.

Trump is pathological about criticism. Everything Trump does must be declared the greatest in history, and anyone who thinks otherwise is an enemy. His unwillingness to throw the focus of the presidency behind the hurricane effort is his deranged way of believing that it's already perfect.
Americans are literally dying from his narcissism now.

Just saw the morning's tweets.
He says Puerto Ricans are too lazy to work on recovery. He says the mayor of San Juan is against him because the Democrats told her she had to be. He says the American media is actively working to undermine the morale of the military. He is denying the reality of the crisis.
There's no way to fully express this man's petty viciousness.
Heckuva job, Trump voters.
EDIT: Matthew Yglesias nailed it: because Trump doesn't know how to lead and basically doesn't care about other people, he thinks the smart political play is to make this about lazy brown people and their media enablers disrespecting the military and first responders.
He thinks this crisis is another campaign speech.

The man is doing it himself - he is creating a potentially perfect nearly eternal record for all time of one of the worst people ever to govern a nation. He is a disaster as a leader and a human being and in perhaps 50 years there will be no one who will look back and think about how great he was. They'll only know how utterly terrible, reprehensible, and evil he was. I can live with that as long as we all do.

I agree with your second statement, but he's still small potatoes compared to Pol Pot, Stalin, and that club. He's certainly in the running to be the worst ever to govern
this nation, but even there he still has a ways to go. Objectively speaking, he's had very little practical impact so far.

Taxes. Greater long term impact than the Puerto Rican crisis, and Reuters reported yesterday that the present plan clearly benefits the rich.

Trump is probably in the clubhouse at his Bedminster golf club watching the President's Cup on tv and tweeted this at a nation where 60% are homeless after the hurricane. It's been said, but what a freaking asshole.

My point is the media doesn't give a crap about Puerto Rico beyond any ammunition they can get to attack Trump.
I can give the San Juan mayor credit for at least that. She knew her pleads would fall on deaf ears unless she also attacked Trump. Shrewd and effective.

Oh for fuck's sake, Rip.
The media is not the enemy here. The enemy is environmental and infrastructural devastation. The enemy is lack of medicine and food and clean water. The enemy is cholera. The enemy is raw human suffering that could be prevented by the greatest nation in the world if it applied its resources with sufficient leadership.
Trump can't understand any of that because he's an idiot and a villain and mentally ill, and he sees nothing beyond the boundaries of his own petty vindictiveness. Are you saying you're no better than Trump?

The resources have been deployed. Trump has next to no effect on what happens beyond nodding and signing orders. The people doing the work are doing the best they can, it is just a difficult challenge.
GOV. RICARDO ROSSELLO: First of all, we are very grateful for the administration. They have responded quickly.
The president has been very attentive to the situation, personally calling me several times. FEMA and the FEMA director have been here in Puerto Rico twice. As a matter of fact, they were here with us today, making sure that all the resources in FEMA were working in conjunction with the central government.
We have been working together. We have been getting results. The magnitude of this catastrophe is enormous. This is going to take a lot of help, a lot of collaboration. So, my call is to congressmen and congresswomen to take action quickly and conclusively with an aid package for Puerto Rico.
We are in the midst of potentially having a humanitarian crisis here in Puerto Rico which would translate to a humanitarian crisis in the United States. So, I call upon Congress to take action immediately. You know, Puerto Ricans are proud U.S. citizens.
We have shown as much when Irma went through our region. It impacted us, but that didn’t stop us from going to the aid of other almost 4,000 U.S. citizens that were stranded in some of the islands. We gave them food, shelter. We make them out of harm’s way and we have them go back to their homes.
Now it is time for, you know, the U.S. citizens in the mainland to help Puerto Rico as well. And because we are a territory, we need to be equal, because we’re U.S. citizens, as would happen in any other state. The aftermath of this could be health emergencies, severe problems with infrastructure, and, of course, massive exodus of people of Puerto Rico, which would cause a tremendous demographic shift in Puerto Rico and in the United States.

The only problem here is people trying to politicize it.

And yet Trump still feels the need to make this all about him, blame Democrats, throw Puerto Rican leadership under the bus, and blame Puerto Rico citizens for not being bootstrappy enough. Such leadership.
Here, how about we try this for a response instead:
"I understand the frustration of the Mayor of San Juan. Rest assured that we are deploying all possible resources to support the recovery effort, and will work ceaselessly with local leadership to provide the help they need. All of America stands by you, Puerto Rico, and we send our love and support."
Is something like that
