You can move your base to anywhere you want to go. You just need to find another habitable base on any other planet, in any system and you can switch your base over to that one. All your specialists will move to the new base and all of your base stuff, including your storage containers and their contents will be in the special storage stash in the new base. You are not limited by your base location as far as mobility goes.

Beacons can't be built until you finish one of the base building missions. One of the scientist ones I think. He gives you the blueprint.

That's what I needed to hear. I put off the base building stuff because I will be journeying on. Knowing my base can be moved helps.

To a point. There is a limit on the resources that will be transferred to your new base if you move it.
And just so I don't sit here fuming about you nice people trying to explain my resource problem to me, here's the thing - I could not find any
AT
ALL.
NOWHERE.
Nobody sells it, and I never found the right planet biome where I could obtain it. So that means that
So for the second time

Well, there are 18 quadrillion planets. I guess I ran into a stretch of all zeroes in Pi or something.

I've been running around trying to find a better ship with more than 24 slots. So far I've found 2 more crashed ships but they were both worse than the one I have. One had 28 slots but half of them were damaged and I didn't have the cash to repair them all. So, not worth it.
I've had better luck with drop pods and have been able to expand my exosuit slots quite a bit.
I found a planet loaded with Emeril which sells for a LOT. I mined it until my ship was full and made a lot of cash by selling it all at once. After I sold it though, the market on it crashed so now it's pretty worthless in that system. I'll have to sell it elsewhere to make anything if I want to mine more of it.

Yeah, I use boost as soon as I hit space and keep it on all the way to the station. That avoids any issues there.

You can buy the ships off of other traders in ports. I only found and fixed one ship in my first play through. After that I just bought them.

So I'm seeing reports and videos that you can own a small fleet of ships, build bases, and explore with vehicles now. Words like "redeemed" are floating around.
Is this game maturing and getting close to "worth it" or is it still something to avoid? I feel like Empyrion: Galactic Survival does pretty well in terms of ship building, base building, survival, and exploration - without being so huge and repetitive that it gets boring.

I don't know but I bet it's going to be be super cheap in a few weeks when the STEAM summer sale starts.

Even in it's original state it'd be worth $15-20. If it's improved a lot since then and you're tempted by it, I'd say it's definitely worth nabbing on the next sale.
Kinda ridiculous they're still charging $60 two years after release, though.

I was crazy excited about this back at launch, and I was really bummed when it didn’t release on XBOX. Then, I saw the reviews and it seemed like it was generally panned from most corners. Now that it’s releasing on XBOX this week, with all the new content and updates, I think I may take the plunge. Anyone else going to jump in on this one?

After reading up a little more on it and watching some videos, I decided to take the plunge. I pre-orderd NMS Next for XBONE. I'm giving this 50/50 odds I don't regret this decision!

I look forward to your feedback on the XBONE version. I played a lot on the PS4 on release and left with the feeling I would never return. I got my money's worth out of it, but wasn't inspired with the gameplay in the long run (or even the mid run).
But I do have an XBONE X and am closing in on the finish for Far Cry 5..

very similar story for me, but PC version. Didn't love it but played quite a lot. I tried to get back into it with a new game after a couple of the big updates, but it still didn't grab me. I might give it one more go.

PC version is on sale on Steam for $29.99 until July 27
I'm tempted but not sure if I'm $30 tempted.

I might bite at this and see if it pans out for me for a couple hours before deciding on whether or not to return it. Steam's reviews are "Mostly Negative" in the overall sense, but "Very Positive" for recent reviewers - and some of those negative recent reviews seem like people still feeling burned by the launch.
I've been itching for a new space game to sink some time into, and this might fit the bill. It might also be too crafting/hunting and not enough flying/exploring.

Yeah, I haven't played it in almost two years (!), but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious. At the time (and at full price), I managed to get 26+ hours of enjoyment out of it. As someone that played primarily for exploration, it definitely was enjoyable (to me). But after a while the hamster wheel nature of the game play wore off, especially after it was readily apparent that the game was limiting stacks and inventory as a way to drive you forward.

Unfortunately, the 'patch' is a 6.5 GB Steam download. So... see you in another 2 years?

I don't even think the original game installation was that big - checking the earlier portions of this thread, it was a 2.5 GB download on release day to install it. When your patch is over 2x the size of your game...that's...something.
EDIT: For those playing along at home, Century Link promised me 80 Mbps service by 7/9. However, on 7/7, they told me the installation would be happening on 7/26. I'm guessing I have more of a chance of seeing one of my OO friends in No Man's Sky than Century Link actually installing 80 Mbps service at my house in two days.

The original download this AM was 5.5 GB, which was what made me put 'patch' in quotes.
Just to rub it in, I downloaded that 5.5 GB in about 8 minutes, and the patch downloaded and installed while I was on a phone call without me even noticing.

Am I not understanding how to mine copper? It tells me to use the terrain tool. I found a deposit but the terrain tool just destroys all the rock and I'm not seeing any copper added to inventory.
Never mind. I found another deposit and this time everything worked. It was just odd that the first deposit was labeled as such, but had no copper.

Played this for a few hours yesterday and enjoyed it a lot. Let me preface this by saying I did still enjoy the game when it was released, rough edges and all, but I think with this update they are much closer to what people were assuming the game was going to be like from the beginning.
It's really a collection of mostly minor improvements, re-balancing, etc, but the whole of the game is much more fleshed out it feels like now.
Biggest things they added:
+ Multiplayer. Not open world like Elite at the moment, but you can pretty easily meet up and travel around with your friends now
+ 3rd person camera and a customizable avatar. You can look like a human, one of the 3 main races, or various really weird aliens
+ Much better terrain generation. Each planet doesn't feel like a cookie cutter of all the other planets with a different skin pasted on.
+ Real base building. No more boring quest line to get a base... you build a base computer, place it where ever you want, and you can start placing floors, walls, roof, etc nearby. I will say... it's not quite as customizable and fully featured as Empyrion, but it's still a huge improvement of the old system.
+ Better graphics. Empyrion's update made that game look much, much better, but NMS still takes the cake here. I was on a small moon orbiting a planet with rings last night and it was awe inspiring.
+ Revamped crafting system. The names of basic materials and items are much more clear now and make it much easier to see what you need to progress
+ Mining is much, much easier. Resource nodes are smaller, but far more plentiful and easy to find. Each planet is also clearly labeled as to what resources you can find there
They also seem to have lowered the bar for getting at least a basic freighter. I was following along the starting quest, and jumped into a system where a freighter that was under attack. I helped them, and the captain invited me aboard and offered me ownership of the ship. It gives me a mobile base, a place to hold extra ships, the interior has a changeable section where you can build new rooms for the freighter, and there's a fleet system now where you can buy frigates of various types to accompany your freighter giving it different bonuses.

I put in about three hours on a restarted campaign and so far I'm enjoying it. I have my doubts about its long term potential for me, but the idea of getting my own freighter sounds good. I'm on my second planet and the game is now telling me to leave and go explore, which I'm guessing is telling me to check out that nearby space station.

If you got NMS on GOG, you could get a refund after the last update - if you're pissed that Multiplayer is missing.
GOG wrote:We know that many of you expressed disappointment about the lack of the new multiplayer feature in the latest update to No Man's Sky on GOG.COM. Although Hello Games chose not to offer refunds over missing game content to our users and instead promised to bring the missing multiplayer content later this year, we understand that some of you might not be willing to wait. For this reason, entirely at GOG's own cost, we’re offering an extended refund policy for all owners of No Man’s Sky. Even if your purchase is no longer covered by the 30-Day Money Back Guarantee, you can contact our customer support team and we’ll issue a refund in wallet funds.
This extended refund policy applies to all owners of No Man's Sky on GOG.COM who request the refund by this Sunday, July 29, 10:00 PM UTC.
This commentary on GOG's customer service just sold me on a $30 copy of this game from them. I've been looking for a space adventure, and Elite was too expensive right now. Hopefully this will scratch that itch. I had picked up Starsector again, and was enjoying it all over, but would rather try something new.
