With the division on the line there is no way in hell Rodgers gets rested. Unless GB is thumping the Lions in the 2nd half he will play the entire game. Hell, the Cowboys, with nothing to play for, kept their starting QB in the entire game, last week.
If Washington loses on Sunday, Detroit is in. There is no way they sit an injured Stafford on Sunday nite and give up the division for a wild card berth. No way GB does that either.
Please explain the circumstances that led to a team sitting their starter with the division championship on the line because I have never heard of that happening. Teams do not give up the division championship and home field advantage to accept a wild card berth instead.
Well do you ever get the feeling that the story's too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage and it seems like you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Bart Scott
Now that Rex Ryan has been shown the door in Buffalo, Bills defensive lineman Marcell Dareus has criticized his former coach, saying Ryan’s scheme was “too much detail for a lot of guys.”

Bart Scott, who played for Ryan, couldn’t disagree more.

“That might sum the whole thing up – because that’s the guy that you gave $100 million,” Scott said on CBS Sports Radio’s The DA Show. “Instead of reading his play book, he was too busy lighting up. Are you serous? First of all, I’ve been in this system my entire career. Eleven years, I’ve been in this system. As a defensive lineman, you only have like four (or five) fronts. Man, if you can’t remember five fronts, I don’t know what to tell you, bro. We can’t put the play book in crayon.

“To me, you have to learn the concepts, not the individual plays,” Scott said. “When you learn the individual plays, you put each defense as an individual. I can explain to you the entire defense. (One) call might be ‘Bull Fire Zone.’ What’s the first letter of bull?”

That would be a “B.”

“Boundary,” Scott said. “(The pressure is) coming from the boundary. That’s all Dareus has to know.”

As Scott explained, Ryan’s defense uses code words like “bull” to tell the defense what to do and where to go. If Scott didn’t have trouble with it as a linebacker, it’s hard to understand how Dareus has trouble with it as a lineman.

“I’ve had teammates that were special needs in high school and college,” Scott said. “I played with at least four teammates that were dyslexic and they picked it up. So Marcell Dareus needs to be reevaluated. I don’t know what his Wonderlic was, but for him to say that defense was complicated, I don’t know.”
It's almost as if people are the problem.

Notice Dareus didn't say it was too complicated for him, he said for some guys. Dareus excelled under Saban's defense and some former Bama players in the NFL said said Saban's defense was more complex than a lot of NFL defenses.

More likely Rex was not strict, a players coach, and players got lazy under him.
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

Thank you Bart Scott.

But as noted, Dareus didn't say that HE had trouble with it. He said that some of the other dudes had trouble with it. The defensive line had a pretty good year. The LBs didn't seem to struggle that much. Time and again, the secondary fell apart. Maybe he was referring to the secondary?

There was another Bills defender who was asked for his reaction to Rex's firing - "that was like music to my ears".

I find that stunning, and whoever it was, I would like them off the team. To get back to Bart's point - this defense has worked for multiple teams. If if doesn't work for you, you are likely the problem.

It's what bad organizations do to ensure that they stay bad. If you aren't overreacting to fan discontent, you aren't trying.

Regarding Rex's defenses, there is a very stark difference between the Ravens/Jets D under Ryan and the disaster that has been the last two seasons.

I've heard a dozen former players echo Bart Scott's sentiments. Only the Bills defensive players seem to be lamenting how complicated and detail-oriented it is.

Hopefully they can figure out Gus Bradley's system.

Interesting that the ESPN article says that league sources have told Schefter that this was going to happen. Not SF sources but league sources. I think Baalke had run his course, but giving up on Kelly this soon would be a waste of money. Not my money however...

I'd agree...and I'm an Oakland fan. :(

David Carr made this team work, and they're mediocre (on a good day) without him.

Kubiak officially retires/resigns or whatever you want to call it.

I would like to see David Shaw from Stanford get a shot at the HC job. If not him, then Sean Payton.

My ideal scenario would be

David Shaw -HC
Mike Mcoy -OC
Wade Phillips -DC

Broncos need OL, DL, and linebackers

If anyone can pry Shaw out of Stanford it will be worth it. But I think Gruden is more likely to return than Shaw leaving Stanford.

Of those 3, the Rams are easily the best job. Lines in good shape, great rb and a QB to develop.

I'm not sure I would classify Gurley as great. He had a great start to his rookie season and since then has been entirely mediocre (or worse?). Per MMQB, he didn't have a 100 yard game this season and has only surpassed 90 yards once in his last 24 games....

Not sold for sure. He was pretty awful during his two starts, but that's a small sample. I'm definitely not sold on Trevor Siemian. I think his ceiling is much lower than Lynch's.

With the Broncos already asking for permission to interview Shanahan, I bet that's Elway's top choice.

McDaniels has decent leverage and no reason to rush, plus he's been fired from one HC position and so another firing (even if unmerited) would be a black mark. So I doubt he would consider the Bills opening.

Yeah, if I was McDaniels I wouldn't take Buffalo's call. He has the opportunity to stay in NE or choose where to go. He's been a HC before so should have a detailed sense of what he wants to return to that job. BUF doesn't offer that.

After seeing their dumpster fire of a press conference with the GM today, I can't imagine anyone except Anthony Lynn would be interested in the job.

F this team.
