While that is true - it does get a whole bunch of other 'porn star' related evidence out into the public salad bar for people to pick at. Additionally, I can also enjoy the idea that this will put additional pressure on Melania to feel like a complete human failure for partnering with someone like Donald Trump (if she's capable of that reflection).
It's also Trump's propaganda in a way. It was just a porn star hush payment distracts from the whole fraud and falsifying business records aspect. It's just a little 'light white collar crime'. Also we don't know all the details yet.

Correct. For all we know it's a misdemeanor. From the WaPo article:

Bragg and his investigative team were probing whether Trump falsified business records connected to the payments in a way that could constitute a campaign-finance violation.

I would disagree with calling it a "nothingburger". Now I will agree that: (1) on the scale of Trump's apparent crimes, this is relatively low; and (2) it's not the central thing that we should be having a trial of Trump over (e.g., the attempted overthrow of the government).

HOWEVER, the Trump campaign directing hush money payments to a porn star a few months before the election isn't what I would consider a nothingburger.

The big thing is that a specific former President who has announced his candidacy for the next election will be arrested, fingerprinted, mugshat, and charged. It's no longer unprecedented. And that may bring the other prosecutors out of their hidey-holes.

Shrug. It is what it is, and Trump Bad was never going to move that particular needle. Nor is whatever the Democrats are doing (which seems to be thoughts and prayers - I'm not really sure.)

The only thing, I think, that will solve the problem will be something new. Something bad (like a major catastrophe) or something good (like center half of each part splitting from the fringes and combining into a less loony party.)

Those are all associated with his Presidency. There may be some others related to his civilian life as well.

I assume Trump won't be detained, but could a judge forbid him from talking about the case, and if so, how likely is it Trump wouldn't be able to comply and get himself in more trouble.

I also assume a defense tactic is going to be that Trump can't get a fair trial anywhere. How far could they get with that?
