The Trump Presidency Thread

If only the parent of a fallen soldier had called Trump out during the campaign for being disrespectful and devoid of decency to the families of fallen soldiers....

Oh wait, one did.
Have you ever been to Arlington Cemetery? Go look at the graves of brave patriots who died defending the United States of America. You will see all faiths, genders, and ethnicities. You have sacrificed nothing—and no one.

Where are all the hide-behind-the-flag, stand for the anthem, jersey burning knuckleheads? This is the most a-patriotic, military belittling, service hating president in my lifetime. His platitudes and false praises are so transparent that everyone who hears them is a lesser person simply for hearing them (and Huckabee is a loathesom, soulless goblin creature for trying to defend them).

Time for another fight with McCain:
US President Donald Trump has issued a warning to Senator John McCain a day after his fellow Republican delivered a thinly veiled attack in a speech.

"People have to be careful because at some point I fight back," Mr Trump told a Washington radio station on Tuesday.

On Monday, the senator deplored "half-baked, spurious nationalism" in a perceived slight at Mr Trump's so-called America First policy.
...
"I'm being very, very nice but at some point I fight back and it won't be pretty," Mr Trump told WMAL on Tuesday in response to a question about the senator's remarks.

Mr McCain was asked by journalists about Mr Trump's remark, and he responded: "I have faced tougher adversaries."

Receiving the Liberty Medal in Philadelphia a day earlier, the six-term senator from Arizona warned against the US surrendering its international leadership.

Mr McCain was applauded as he said: "To fear the world we have organised and led for three-quarters of a century, to abandon the ideals we have advanced around the globe, to refuse the obligations of international leadership and our duty to remain the last best hope of earth for the sake of some half-baked, spurious nationalism cooked up by people who would rather find scapegoats than solve problems is as unpatriotic as an attachment to any other tired dogma of the past that Americans consigned to the ash heap of history.

"We live in a land made of ideals, not blood and soil," he continued.

"We have done great good in the world. That leadership has had its costs, but we have become incomparably powerful and wealthy as we did."

A good column on McCain's speech.

It'll be fascinating to see what McCain actually does going forward. Between Collins, Corker, McCain, and a couple others, we're reasonably close (if not already there) to a consistent anti-Trump majority in the Senate. Among other things, if you have 51+ Senators willing to really dig down on the truth on Trump's activities, regardless of where that leads...the dam could burst pretty quickly.

But we'll see.

Travel ban blocked for 3rd time. So much winning!
In a 40-page decision granting the state of Hawaii’s request for a temporary restraining order, Watson wrote that the latest ban “suffers from precisely the same maladies as its predecessor: it lacks sufficient findings that the entry of more than 150 million nationals from six specified countries would be ‘detrimental to the interests of the United States.’”

He also wrote that the executive order “plainly discriminates based on nationality” in a way that was opposed to federal law and “the founding principles of this Nation.”

There's a good chance that Trump really considers himself superior to anyone who goes MIA, WIA, or KIA.

Stories like these have never been taken seriously," she continues. "Women are shamed, told they are uptight, nasty, bitter, can’t take a joke, are too sensitive. And the men? Well, if they’re lucky, they might get elected President."

El Guapo wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2017 10:32 pm But Popovich, what do you really think about Trump?
I’ve been amazed and disappointed by so much of what this President had said, and his approach to running this country, which seems to be one of just a never ending divisiveness. But his comments today about those who have lost loved ones in times of war and his lies that previous presidents Obama and Bush never contacted their families, is so beyond the pale, I almost don’t have the words.

At this point, Coach Pop paused, and I thought for a moment that perhaps he didn’t have the words and the conversation would end. Then he took a breath and said:

This man in the Oval Office is a soulless coward who thinks that he can only become large by belittling others. This has of course been a common practice of his, but to do it in this manner–and to lie about how previous Presidents responded to the deaths of soldiers–is as low as it gets. We have a pathological liar in the White House: unfit intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically to hold this office and the whole world knows it, especially those around him every day. The people who work with this President should be ashamed because they know it better than anyone just how unfit he is, and yet they choose to do nothing about it. This is their shame most of all.

Then he said, “Bye, Dave.” And that was it. Should be one hell of an NBA season.
That's a 2001 reference right?

Is something like "I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Your husband was a hero, to this country, to his family, and to me. We're with you in this time of grief" really so hard to say?

I've stopped being surprised. I'm outraged, surely, but it's a cold, hard, dead stare I give him. Nothing he says or does makes me flinch anymore.

And now he's calling the congresswoman who reported the comments a liar. Because of course he is.
Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!
If you've got proof, then produce it. If not, then STFU.

I'm confused. Is this like 'Obama's Kenyan' proof, 'Dr. Oz says I'm healthy' proof, or 'I'll release my tax returns if elected' proof?

From the report abstract:
A foreign substance is introduced into our precious bodily fluids without the knowledge of the individual, and certainly without any choice. That's the way your hard-core Commie works. I first became aware of it, Mandrake, during the physical act of love... Yes, a profound sense of fatigue, a feeling of emptiness followed. Luckily I — I was able to interpret these feelings correctly. Loss of essence. I can assure you it has not recurred, Mandrake. Women, er, women sense my power, and they seek the life essence. I do not avoid women, Mandrake...but I do deny them my essence.

What a world we live in, that, not recognizing the quote, I actually had to google it to see if you were being sarcastic. That it could strike me as being at all plausible is absurd.

I actually considered editing just a few words to fit but figured it would be indistinguishable from an administration statement so I didn't. Which is equally absurd.

We are very likely living in that movie.

Why Does the Stock Market Keep Going Up?
1. It’s simple: Corporations everywhere are making a bunch of money.
2. A1 chaos doesn’t drive the business cycle.
3. There aren’t many obvious signs of bubbles, or causes for imminent corrections.

White House is now saying that the check has been sent, though the father had not received it (when the promise was made in June).

You know, a journalist could make a good living finding out who Trump had promised to pay, contact the owed person, and promise to write an article about it in exchange for (say) 10% of the money owed.
