Sen. Brian Schatz (D., Hawaii)
I just did a search for the headline, and the info was available from other sources, WSJ "exclusive" not withstanding.

That is what is so frustrating - this type of action (refusing to hold nomination hearings, refusing to vote) are procedural actions that could have been taken on 1/22 as the insanity was snowballing. But instead you have Senators saying, "Oh well, it's time to work with the party that won the election - that's what we should be doing - so I'm going to vote yes in support of the most insanely disqualified person to be nominated to this position in the history of America."
I get that the GOP and MAGA are still likely going to steamroll the hell out of everything but JFC already, you don't have to actively help them do it.

Trump folds on Mexico:
I suspect his attack on Canada is more personal in nature. I think he is upset about things that Trudeau had said about him in the past and is using this to get back at him. Canada is much less problematic than Mexico regarding illegal immigration and drugs.

Re: The Apprentice Season 2 - The Second Presidency of Donald Trump
President Trump will sign an executive order on Tuesday withdrawing the U.S. from the UN Human Rights Council and stopping funding to the UN Relief and Works Agency, which provides services to Palestinian refugees in the Middle East, a White House official said.
Why it matters: Trump had also pulled the United States from the Human Rights Council and UNRWA during his first term, which former President Biden reversed.
There's some more context, but I can tell it's already going to be a long week.

We need to forget tariffs.
The big issue is musk going through and having doge burning it all to the ground.
Congress and the courts have rendered themselves null and void.
And nothing’s can happen legally now unless Trump is impeached. He can ignore Congress and the courts with impunity until then.
Offical acts that trump takes are immune from prosecution. If Musk is arrested, trump will pardon him. Ergo the president is the king and the president is immune.

This is the way I see it. I also see a Congress that won't impeach him. In the immortal words of Zaxxon. "We're fucked." I just give no ground and live with a lot of emotional stress right now. No idea how it will shake out globally but the US looks to have it coming and we have ourselves to blame even as so many worked so hard to to stop the train from building steam.

That is not at all the current state of affairs. HE cannot be prosecuted for crimes committed as official acts. No one is asking to use the courts to personally charge him with crimes. These are civil cases where we are asking for the actions to be stopped that are not legal. And if some underling violates a direct court order, than throw that fuck head in jail (since they don't enjoy Presidential immunity). The idea that he can do anything he wants and we are all legally fucked isn't true. We just can't charge him personally with crimes.

Apologies if this has been posted already…been in meetings all day.
So about the victory lap Trump is taking about “forcing” Mexico to send troops to the border. It’s pretty standard procedure and is actually LESS troops than they sent when Biden was in office. They sent 15,000 troops in 2019.

None of them have, and they don’t need to. The President can simply grant it to them if they need it.

My point was that they should be subject to background checks. I’m outraged that they haven’t been vetted. In addition to every thing else involved with this, of course.

President Donald Trump could soon sign an executive order directing the secretary of education to dismantle the federal Department of Education, according to sources briefed on drafts of the order that have circulated among top administration officials.
The proposed order gutting the agency is expected to call for the education secretary to submit a proposal for dismantling the department and for Congress to pass legislation to get rid of it.
The timing on when Trump plans to sign the order remains unclear, but sources familiar with the process told ABC News that conversations about the future of the department have been actively occurring.

I feel like the access to these systems is so far out of the "need to know" level of information. I mean, if Musk's whole purpose is to get rid of ineffecient agencies they can simply read public budget reports put out by that agency. How is accessing personal information anywhere near the kind of info DOGE needs to do their jobs?
I feel like we're in a Die Hard movie where we're all John McClane going "This isn't about reducing government waste! It was always about the money".

Like, how easy is it now to get access to these sensitive areas? Can someone simply say "I'm with DOGE" and get in? I feel like they should at least be carrying some kind of badge or something. Or someone should at least be calling their superior and that superior should be calling security until stuff checks out.

From what I’ve read, they’re going in and installing commercial servers to house this sensitive data. Remember the shit Trump railed about when Hilary set up a damn mail server at home? This is infinitely worse.

We can throw underlings in jail but he can then pardon them. There is no deterrent to carrying out his illegal orders.
And the administration is rapidly replacing career law enforcement with hand picked loyalists. So good luck pursuing those criminal cases in the first place.

Even in this day and age, the lines of communication still take a finite time to transit. Even more so if said underling is thrown in jail without a cell phone and his immediate superior is not notified of his location "for a while". It's all about slowing down the machine; even if you can't stop it.

According to Heather Cox Richardson's post, we're talking about a group of 19-24 year olds doing this for Elon. That just upsets me to no end. I feel for the people back in Nazi Germany, when the Gestapo was mean and scary and carried guns, but FFS giving up to to people barely out of college and high school? Come on!

But who is arresting them? Federal LEO probably and I doubt they'd go in and round up DOGE or whomever with out the handlers knowing.

Seven and eight figures buys a lot of loyalty. Especially when you're 18-25.
Re: The Apprentice Season 2 - The Second Presidency of Donald Trump
NEW YORK (AP) — The Waffle House restaurant chain is putting a 50 cent per egg surcharge in place temporarily due to the biggest bird flu outbreak in a decade.
The Georgia company said that the resulting egg shortage has led to a dramatic increase in its costs.
Bird flu is forcing farmers to slaughter millions of chickens a month, pushing U.S. egg prices to more than double their cost in the summer of 2023. And it appears there may be no relief in sight with Easter approaching.
Obama and Biden did it! President Leon promised you nothing while with this you know the GOP administration you know what they mean no matter what they say and Obama and Biden did it!

Why are we killing all these chickens? Perfectly good chickens, you know, some of the best chickens. Our chickens are the envy of the world, they're so good. You cook the eggs, so why kill the chickens? Farmers ask me, why are we killing our chickens, they don't want to kill them. They get the flu? I got the flu, I'm fine. Look at me. I know they tried to kill me, but not for the flu! Not for the flu.

You're assuming anyone is asking about it. Didn't they start stacking the press room last week? Regardless - there's no updates coming from the CDC or FDA about bird flu, bird culling or spread. All people know is that eggs are expensive, they don't know why. I guess nothing has really changed other than the administration can now come up with a new reason that is likely related to DEI or something that fits their current agenda.
They've already managed to erase Trans people from federal websites. Do you think eggs are going to be more difficult?

The GOP administration has literally already blamed the problem on Biden needlessly killing chickens. LBs cynicism isn't too far off what was actually said.
In her first official White House press briefing on Tuesday, Leavitt, 27, blamed former President Joe Biden for rising costs with "everything" across the country right now — including eggs, which have started to increase in price and demand due to bird flu outbreaks among chicken flocks.
"There's a lot of reporting out there that's putting the onus on this White House for the increased cost of eggs," Leavitt said. "I'd like to point out to each and every one of you that in 2024 when Joe Biden was in the Oval Office — or upstairs in the residence sleeping, I'm not so sure — egg prices increased 65 percent in this country."
During the press conference, Leavitt claimed the spike in egg prices were due to the Biden administration's "mass killing of more than 100 million chickens, which has led to a lack of chicken supply in this country, therefore a lack of egg supply, which is leading to the shortage."
