Re: What are you listening to right now?
Jumped into the truck early one morning to go to work and a local radio station had this song on:
I recognized the song, but not this original version. Of course of those of my generation will recognize the Nirvana cover. Well I went on to explore more of Shocking Blue, and they deserve much more play time and recognition on oldies stations. I do not think I have ever heard a Shocking Blue song on satellite radio either.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Now for some lighter selections:
Entombed A.D. - Torment Remains
Was checking out some upcoming concert acts and was surprised to really like this.
Cattle Decapitation - The Geocide
Didn't know who these guys were... jokingly invited a friend to their show when I saw their name. (We didn't go... I'd be afraid of getting hurt.) Actually dig this song... especially the falsetto. So dark that I can't listen to it without risking it putting me in a bad mood though. But hey, if I'm already there....
Something actually different:
Antipop vs. Matthew Shipp - Slow Horn (Hip hop/Nu jazz)
I always loved the lyric, "I wrap rabbits up in red fabric, that's abstract".

You didn't miss much, they're not great live. Can be a fun pit depending on the crowd, but that's about it.Sudy wrote: Sun Mar 01, 2020 10:03 pm Cattle Decapitation - The Geocide

Igorrr released a new tune and video over the weekend. Metal + Corpsegrinder + chiptune = WIN!!
(pretty standard death metal until 1:37...then it goes off the goddamn rails, in all the best ways)

I forgot to call it "a box of pure malevolent evil, a purveyor of
insidious insanity, an eldritch manifestation that would make Bill
Gates let out a low whistle of admiration," but it's all those, too.

Their story is hilarious. Malcom Gladwell actually dedicated an episode of his Broken Record podcast to it. Definitely worth a listen.

I really like this acoustic version of “(Every Day Is) Halloween”.
Didn’t know Dave Navarro was playing with Uncle Al these days.

OK, now...I like it because I like the original but it's kinda hilarious too.

Yeah, the original has always been more of a guilty pleasure than anything. This version falls in that same category.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
Er, does Al really need the sheet with the lyrics? Is that the result of all the drugs? Anyway, that's really good. I don't think anything tops the original though. The Ministry & Co-Conspirators metal self-cover comes close, but it's a little too "expected".
Damn it, that's making me want to listen to my favourite Minstry track, We Believe:
I think I always always more of a Paul Barker fan, e.g. Vex and Siolence. Which sounds like it's right off his amazing 1990 solo release as Lead Into Gold, Age of Reason. Damn that album is an unappreciated masterpiece.

I've been on a big old school Elton John kick lately. Going back and listening to the early albums. There's a fantastic deluxe version of ELTON JOHN coming out for Record Store Day that I really want to get.

I want to like this more than I actually do. I love Ice's lyrics, but his voice really grates on me after just a song or two.
I hopped into the wayback machine this morning. Can't believe these two songs are 25 years old. I'm so damn old.

How am I just figuring out that she's literally wrote a song about her favorite brand of window coverings?

Find myself listening to Warren Zevon for some reason. Seems to fit today.

A little Egyptian death for the end of the world. These guys are literally from Cairo. That's cool. I'm actually listening to a new release for once! That makes me cool!
Scarab - Bloodmoon Shadows
This is a local death/thrash band I'm really digging. Their latest singles are more polished (full album comes out in a week), but this track is silly fun that was love at second listen.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
This song came on 1st Wave on satellite radio the other day. The first time I ever heard this song on any of their channels. I commented on this song to a coworker years ago that if you listen to this song in a blacked out room, this is what it is like in <coworkers> head. Well suddenly it came on satellite radio and I started to make the same comments about this coworker to others. Everybody over the age of 45 instantly got it, and everyone under did not.

Is it more than pretentious Alt music this year? I tried getting through the list several years ago and gave up trying to find something I liked.Kraken wrote: Sun Mar 15, 2020 4:33 pm Part 1 of the 2020 SxSW bittorrent is up (800+ songs). They hope to have part 2 (another 150+) up tomorrow.
