In Brazil you are a criminal, in America you are a future member of Congress.
Bad example…Brazil is HIGHLY corrupt. Makes us look like amateurs.
TBH, the US policy in South and Central America has the effect of encouraging/enabling this.
At the risk of derailing…how does US policy affect a sovereign nation like Brazil’s penchant for corruption?
1. Collect underpants.
2. ?
3. Profit

I mean… the history of US Cold-War meddling in Central and South American politics to establish authoritarian governments repressive of socialist movements is pretty thoroughly established.
The degree to which that shapes present-day SA politics is more complicated, but it’s not a non-issue.

Right, I'm very aware of the first part, and guess I was just pushing back a little considering it's 2024, but also didn't really equate modern corruption with the 80's dictatorship, but now that youse forced me to think on it, yeah, that makes sense.
Is there an actual picture or is this someone being snarky in a political cartoon?
The latter. He did nod off in court, but there was no artist present to capture the moment and it almost surely didn't look like that.
The NYT's Maggie Haberman described him as letting his chin drop to his chest and his mouth going slack, after which he jerked himself awake. She said this happened more than once. He also ignored a note passed to him by his lawyer while he was snoozing.

Right them by eliminating them, not by hand-waving the penalties.

Yes, it's a nice 420 nod, but there is no "we" in the conversation. You're the President of the effin' United States. Shut down DEA enforcement and push legalization through Congress.

Tough crowd! It was posted at 4:20 on 4/20.
But yes, there needs to be immediate and all encompassing reclassification, but the DEA refuses to budge. I was kinda hoping they might after a push (once again) a few weeks ago and make an announcement yesterday, but another year and still the laws are on the books. Maybe it will take 2/3rs of all states with legal purchase/possession to move the needle or more boomers need to die off. I'm honestly not sure what the hold up is anymore. It's probably the money generated from arrests, right?
In response to a question on the Biden administration’s stand on federal cannabis policy, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that it’s now up to the U.S. Department of Justice to decide on marijuana rescheduling.
The much-anticipated regulatory decision is expected to reclassify cannabis in a low-risk category called Schedule III alongside medications such as ketamine under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
...
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) officially confirmed the ongoing review in February, months after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) recommended rescheduling based on findings from the FDA.
...
While DEA has not indicated a timeline to complete its review, market participants expect a decision before the November election, industry publication Marijuana Moment wrote, citing past rescheduling actions and the Biden administration’s growing support for the review.

There are already 38 states that allow at least medicinal marijuana. The other 12 are just being dicks.
I misread the typo as "2/3 yrs of all states" instead of "2/3rds of all states." (Probably because 2/3rds would be 'two thirdsirds", kind of like when people use, "a $100" to say "a hundred dollars.")

Nope. 50s. This whole region of the country pretends it's still the 1950s. It's not the war on drugs, it's reefer madness via school filmstrips. God (capital G) is the assumed default with no acceptable alternatives, sex is bad, war is about heroes, and that pesky civil rights era hasn't happened yet.

Can't use medical (or recreational) cannabis, but I understand that as of yesterday teachers are now permitted to conceal-carry guns in schools. So - 1850s?

That's fine - it's also a legitimate alternative to the 50s for the stance they take on weed.
