promoing for KEXP at the Peter Murphy show this Saturday. it works out, as 'free admission' is the only way i'd go these days; last two shows were not great.
Kraftwerk next week.

Looks like tomorrow we will be seeing Roger Hodgson (Supertramp). It's going to be baby's first concert.

Waiting for tickets to go on sale for the Detroit show in November. I'm a huge Roger Hodgson fan.

My daughter, who is just shy of 5 years old, is a big Beatles fan. I promised her if Paul McCartney came anywhere close then we'd go see him. Back when I saw him in 2002, you could get cheap seats for around $80.
So I find out he's coming to Greensboro in October. Checked ticket prices - For 2 of the cheapest tickets I could find it was over $550. OUCH.
I feel so bad because I made a promise (even if it was mostly to myself) that we'd go if he came nearby, but don't think I can justify spending $225 on a ticket for a 5 year old who may not even be able to stay awake the whole concert.

That will be nice.
I remember my son being around 8-10 months for his first show.... Doobie Brothers.
He was a trooper. Stayed awake the entire show and didn't cry, whimper, or complain not once.

We have our annual summer festival going on this weekend. Today I'll be seeing Red Moon Road, a folk trio, Crystal Shawanda, and Bruce Cockburn.
Do Or Die - Red Moon Road
Wash Over Me - Red Moon Road
Closer - Crystal Shawanda

Wow, that was an awesome night. Favourites of the night were Red Moon Road, Crystal Shawanda and an unexpected surprise out of the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, the latter which was doing its last show in the northern hemisphere before returning home to Australia. 20+ Musicians on stage together all moving around and not managing to collide like neutrinos. Epic! Amazing sound. Never seen a ska band live in concert, but they set the bar rather high.
Get Smart as by the Melbourne Ska Orchestra
Bruce Cockburn was transcendent. Just him and his guitar. Watching him play was an absolute joy.
Today will be another day of good music, with the headliner being Wintersleep.

Ska shows are a blast. Saw a ton back in the day: Voodoo Glow Skulls, Aquabats, MU330, Dancehall Crashers, Skankin Pickle, Blue Meanies, on and on. Best one was Mephiskapheles...those dudes were absolutely amazing. Satanic ska FTW!

Haha, sorry about that.
Well, Wintersleep was a total wash for me. I'm sure they're good musicians but I couldn't get into them. Guess I'm not their demo.
On the other hand, I did see some other great bands, namely The Strumbellas and a band called the Lemon Bucket Orkestra which I guess the closest thing to it would be Gogol Bordello. They're self described as a "balkan-kleizmer-gypsy-party-punk-super band." Lead singer even looks a bit like Rognar from Vikings
Lemon Bucket Orkestra

No worries, but I'm still not clear if you're dead on in your description or if you don't know how neutrinos work.

Oh, sorry about that. Well, I was trying to say that with that many people moving with high energy, that they didn't manage to collide into each other causing chaos, although they did have close calls
I'm actually quite familiar with how they work, given that we do have a neutrino observatory here and all.

No probs
Collisions would have sent them madly off in all directions
Given that the stage wasn't all that big to begin with, having 20+ (25 in total according to their website) musicians on stage was quite a feat and there was always something going on with each of them at any given time. The Lemon Bucket Orkestra was sort of the same way. It's amazing to see them have to coordinate such big bands!

I'd question the wisdom of having a pirate metal band play on a cruise ship. That's just asking for trouble.
Sounds awesome though. Behemoth is exactly as their name implies: simply massive. Nergal is a fucking beast.

I'm planning on going to see
Moon Hooch next weekend at the
Square Roots Festival.
They play jazz-punk-dance music on two saxophones and a drum kit.

I haven't heard the name Skankin Pickle since like 1989.
I forget who I saw Wintersleep open for but they were completely not my thing.
How was Roger Hodgson? I'll be getting presales tickets tomorrow.
I'll also probably get a ticket to
White denim tomorrow.
I only hope I'm feeling a bit more energetic by then. Hopefully all my visits to the doctor pay off.

Yeah, I could see why they got Wintersleep, to attract a younger crowd, but the vibe felt completely wrong for this festival, especially after the Lemon Bucket Orkestra had played. I found them rather overrated and their songs mostly sounded all the same. And they were LOUD!

Saw him at a local fest on Sunday.
He was good. Vocals held up pretty well and his backing musicians were all top notch.

We didn't make it to that one because of the weather, so his first concert turned out to be at the Grant Park Symphony this past Saturday night. His music genes must have come from his mom, because he embarrassed the Czech side of his heritage by falling asleep during Dvorak.

Just got back from a week at camp, exhausted. My wife gets a phone call from a friend of hers that has a pair of main floor tickets to see Yes tonight. Interested, but too tired. Don't want to deal with Chicago traffic, parking, etc.
What? They're playing at the Copernicus Center, a 1900 seat venue like six blocks from my house? Well, damn. Guess it's fate.

Its a good show especially if you like early Yes, since they do the Fragile and Close to the Edge albums in their entirety. I just saw them Tuesday, it was a fun show. They are not as tight as they used to be but then what do you expect from guys who are pushing 70?

Saw Ray Lamontagne last night. While he sounded great, unfortunately his set list was pretty much four old songs and the rest from his Supernova album. And while that album is OK, it's my least favorite of anything he's done. The crowd was also really subdued (even for a Ray concert).
The saving grace is we went with some friends and had an AWESOME dinner beforehand, so we had a great time despite the lackluster set.
