F**k:
LOS ANGELES -- San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove suffered damage to his ulnar collateral ligament during his Wednesday start and will soon undergo Tommy John surgery, ending his season and all but ruling him out for the entirety of 2025.
This makes room for Yu Darvish in the rotation, who otherwise couldn't crack the lineup. Fingers crossed.

Woo-Yu! They scheduled a playoff game in LA and a Padres slugfest broke out (tying a major league record of 6 HR in one postseason game). Meanwhile, Darvish dominated the MVP top of the Dodger lineup.

Oh yeah! They came to San Diego for a slugfest and a pitchers duel broke out. How many times has a team given up a grand slam in the postseason and still won the game? Back breaker.

Well then. I read the game was on at 1630 Eastern two days ago. I guess google lied to me.

Edit: It was a nice overachievement season while it lasted.

Start time was moved due to weather.

The sacred duty of destroying the Yankees now falls to the Guardians. Go forth and conquer, Lake Erie brothers. And destroy the Mets too if it comes to it.

I read that it was moved so it wouldn’t conflict with the OSU vs Oregon football game.

Convenient for sure but they announced it was weather. I don't think they'd move for a game that was already scheduled.

Series between the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers has been moved up from 8:08 p.m. ET to 1:08 p.m. ET on Saturday, MLB announced Friday. The decision was made to avoid the forecasted inclement weather in Cleveland. Moving the game up is the best way to ensure nine innings are played without interruption.

As a Guardians fan last night's game was awesome. It had everything you could want in a playoff game (Unless you're a Yanks fan). Late homeruns to tie the game and take the lead by both teams, the game's best closer giving up two of those homers, a rookie hitting a monster HR to tie it and then a 2 run HR to win it for the home team with 2 outs in the 10th.

I thought Naylor's GIDP was the end for them, even after the Noel HR, but that defensive play at first (also Naylor) won it, IMO.

Classic game.

3 more wins to go.

World Series will have a combined payroll of at least $620M. I know it's just entertainment at the end of the day but I am not really excited by that prospect.

If you don’t like teams that spend to win then maybe baseball isn’t for you anymore. :)

I learned to hate the Yankees during the Steinbrenner years. They were the first to try to buy a championship.

But now I think I have grown to dislike teams that just pocket their money instead of investing it back into the team.

Yeah, I agree with this. I get the issue with misallocation of wealth vs. housing and food and the like at the macro level, but in the short term this is money that's either staying in the pockets of very wealthy people or getting spent on a more competitive team. And in general I prefer the latter.

So after all that we get the worst possible outcome - Yankees East vs Yankees West

The small and mid market teams can't spend $300M on salary. It's not like they're pocketing Yankees or Dogers level of net income. Their total revenue doesn't even top $350M.

It was bad when other teams were doing it, but now that my team is doing it it's good. ;)

I do think that the smaller/mid-market teams could likely put more of their revenue into player salaries even if they can't reach the level of the top markets. The whole financial world of sports is irredeemably broken at this point, though. Owners make too much, players make too much, tickets cost too much. At least I get bombarded by gambling options throughout the games I watch, so that's fun.

I just hate the way the Dodgers did it this year. It feels like cheating.

Also, I HATE HATE HATE the dodgers. Waiting for the eventual choke job, but the chances are getting slimmer :(

They did it this year with something like 15 pitchers on the IL. They did it with a bullpen and what turned out to be some very important trades for position players. Of all their past few seasons this is one they earned.

And it’s too bad Ohtani picked the Dodgers over the Giants.

Teams have enough money to build minor league systems, but many owners would rather take the money than do that.
