Just finished the finale and enjoyed it a great deal. I don't think it's going to change the minds of those who found this season slow or dull, however. This season, to me, was definitely more about the journey than the destination.
Spoilery thoughts:
Spoiler:
- I guessed the "Rick's enemy is really his dad" thing awhile back like a lot of folks, but satisfying to see it confirmed. Guess it now makes sense why their initial confrontation was a bit anti-climactic.
- Will we see a return of Gary/Greg in S4, or was the deal their way of putting the whole storyline to rest? I could see it going either way, though the fact that Chloe didn't really get a satisfactory wrap-up makes me think we may see more of him.
- Kind of glad Tim's ending didn't go as dark as it first appeared it would. Though they still leave a lot to the viewer's imagination on what the fate of the family ultimately will be.
- The real tragedy in this whole affair was Chelsea - one of the few genuinely good characters on the show through and through. She didn't deserve her fate.
- As much as I went back and forth between loving and loathing the friendship of Laurie, Jaclyn, and Kate, Laurie's speech was really sweet and I'm glad friendship ultimately triumphed over petty squabbles.
I enjoyed it - particularly something you mentioned in your spoilers:
Spoiler:
Really, the contrast between the opening monologue from the guru about the stress associated with wanting resolution to things and there is none and Laurie's speech about what was most important - the time they spent together.
Feels like the entire series (all three seasons) could be framed in those observations. I think all of the stories this season likely fit in that specific box, and for Rick especially:
Spoiler:
He wanted resolution so badly and it ended up not only killing him but arguably the greatest thing in his life.
So yeah, overall it continues to be an A+ series for me. I have no idea what S4 will be about but I'm looking forward to it.
I agree, really liked the finale, liked the season overall as well.
Spoiler:
Really liked the Jaclyn & friends resolution - made me happier than I would have expected it to. Of course was immediately worried that one or more of them would get shot in the firefight, but glad they didn't. Was kind of expecting that Belinda would be immediately killed after selling out her principles and her new boyfriend so thoroughly - curious if there's going to be more on that in season 4+, but who knows.
On Tim, what I really want is for there to be a throwaway headline in some newspaper or something along the lines of "Disgraced Trader Tim Ratcliff Pardoned by Trump."
