That's not really fair - he's been in government since 2004 and has 4 years left on his term. I think his ideas are abhorrent, but there is no evidence he's doing it simply because he wants a private sector job.

Nothing about McCabe being forced out at the FBI? The White House says it wasn’t involved in the decision, so I guess all of Trump’s tweets about McCabe and the report that came out last week about Trump asking McCabe who he voted for is all just a coincidence.

I somehow missed this but Tom Nichol's review of Trump's first year is pretty much on point.

Trump has deprived the presidency of its majesty, its gravity and its ability to inspire. In doing so, he has distilled the role of executive power to its elemental minimum as an almost purely destructive force. When Trump talks policy, he is ignored. But he is still the most powerful man in the world, so there is no avoiding him when he seems bent on creating havoc.

I, for one, enjoy my teeth gnashing as it makes me feel a sense of patriotism I've never felt before to oppose someone as un-American as Trump. I certainly do weep for the damage he's caused to everything he's touched and the future we're handing our children.

I'm not sure why someone would want to enjoy that unless they were dead inside and looking to fill the void with the suffering of others... or "Republican" in today's parlance.

We need a third party for all the sane, displaced Republicans to land. They don't need to identify as "Democrat" or "Independent" but I can't imagine anyone being proud to be what the party has turned into lately.

IIRC, Trump's first presidential speech on immigration (also written by Miller) hit bipartisan notes and took everyone by surprise with its apparent shift away from the racism of the campaign. Then, of course, the actual policies (also written by Miller) came along.

Yeah, although the last SOTU also was where Trump called for creation of the office on immigrant crime. There's going to be scary shit like that, but pundits are going to focus on the style of the speech (and whether it sounded nice).
